What is it with Dog lovers?

I am at a seaside cottage with the DGC . Bin day is Wednesday so we put out the bin. From the balcony I see the bin being emptied and in the Time it took to go down the stairs and out the doors out 30 seconds, some delightful dog lover has emptied his hoard of dog poo into the bin. I know Gransnetters would never dream of such a thing but have none of you any influence on your fellow dog lovers?
I'm all for dog poo DNA .

I would never dream of putting my dog poo bags into someone's private rubbish bin. But as in all aspects of life, there are people who let the side down. Difficult for you, if you are renting, as you can't contact the council as you would if it were at your home. Maybe you could pop a note on the bin saying 'Please don't deposit your dog poo bags in this bin' and see what happens. It may be there are no council dog poo bins around, so rather than carry it for miles, walkers are sticking it in the nearest bin. I agree, it's not on but not sure what else you can do really. I hope it was bagged!!!!

There is a distinct lack of manners just about everywhere nowadays sad

I live in the countryside and often find plastic bags of dog poo hanging on bushes!

breeze Thu 14-Jul-16 10:38:29

Maybe this will cheer you up at least! I was walking in the woods carrying 2 large dog poo bags when I looked at my mobile phone to check the time, tripped over a tree root and landed (tummy first) on top of the bags, which burst. I was covered in poop. Had to go home, put all clothing in washing machine and have a shower! Thought a tale of one of us dog owners getting some comeuppance may at least make you smile!

sunseeker, I think what sometimes happens is people pick up and hang on the tree branch to collect on their way back, because there are no poo bins on the route. Then they forget. I've done that before on long walks with no bins but I always pick them up again to put in the bin afterwards. I did hang one over a fence post once when I was dog training on a farm. I remembered with horror when I got home and rang the trainers wife and said 'Oh I'm so sorry, I left my bag of poop on your fence'. She was laughing that I'd bothered to ring but I couldn't bear it if they thought I was so inconsiderate I left poo hanging on their fence!

If it's a holiday rental I expect it's a regular occurrence.

Does it really matter if it's not your own bin?

Av1dreader Thu 14-Jul-16 10:48:03

At least they picked it up and maybe there were no dog poo bins around

sunseeker Thu 14-Jul-16 11:35:06

breeze I wish that were the case but I have even found them in bushes on the main road (no footpath) through the village, cars can't stop without causing an obstruction so the bags have obviously been tossed out of car windows!

granjura Thu 14-Jul-16 11:40:52

Despicable! Do you know who it is?

Here we have special dog bins all over the place with free bags- but we do have to pay about £50 per dog per year to pay for the service. I think it is fair, and the vast majority abide by the system. Hurrah.

breeze Thu 14-Jul-16 11:42:16

That's just wrong, and again, letting the side down. I don't understand why people pick up at all if all they're going to do is chuck it out of a window or hang it on a bush. Maybe they think the council can deal with the job. I hate that sort of thing. When you're following a car and they lob a fried chicken box out of the window or something. One of the things that gets to me, is when I stop to pick up my dogs poop and there's another one about 3 feet away. Frustrating, as I'm doing my bit but I can't pick up everyone else's. If you've ever trodden in it, got it on your buggy wheels, children's feet, bicycle wheels, it's not pleasant. At least there are fines now and a lot of people do do the decent thing. Going back to the bin, more difficult to police it. Just a note I suppose.

Sorry, my post was to sunseeker.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 14-Jul-16 12:03:13

If it is bagged up, what does it matter?

merlotgran Thu 14-Jul-16 12:05:23

I can't see how it's despicable if it's bagged up.

breeze Thu 14-Jul-16 12:11:44

It does stink. We pick up our poo when out but if our dogs do have one in the garden, we have a small bin away from the house lined with a plastic bag. We check and pick up every day using dog poo bags during the week, then the day before the dustmen come, we remove the larger back and wrap it twice more before tying it up and putting in the black refuse sacks. But if they're just tossed in, in a poo bag alone, the smell can hit you when you open the lid. I had to drive home with one once when I couldn't find a dog poo bin and it's not something I'd like to do again! Also, unless your bin is lined, when you throw heavier items on top, they can burst and you've got poo loose in the bottom of your bin. Awful, then needs disinfecting and hosing out or you'll be plagued with flies. I do agree, it's not nice to chuck into a private bin. I wouldn't do it.

sunseeker Thu 14-Jul-16 12:12:13

Wilma and merlotgran So if someone came along and hung bags of dog poo on your hedge or fence you would have no objection because it is in a bag? It is not only unsightly but animals and birds tear at the bags and the poo falls to the ground, it is a health hazard. Why not take it further, would you not mind if someone dumped their rubbish by your hedge or fence, so long as it was in a bag? It is disgusting and, yes, despicable.

sunseeker Thu 14-Jul-16 12:13:42

breeze I wish all dog walkers were as considerate as you smile

Tegan Thu 14-Jul-16 12:14:54

Slightly going off at a tangent but this sign on someones door in Richmond amused me...

breeze Thu 14-Jul-16 12:18:13

Although I own dogs and adore my dogs, I've also pushed a buggy through poop, scraped it off my kids shoes on occasion and even trod in some myself. Some inconsiderate person hadn't picked up and I didn't notice. Drove home, wondered what the stink was and it was all over my accelerator pedal. So I had to go indoors, wash my flipping shoe, come back out, wash my accelerator pedal. So it's not funny. Pick the bloody stuff up! And put it in the right bin.

granjura Thu 14-Jul-16 12:18:36

Wilma and Merlot, not sure what you are talking about- putting loads of bagged poo in the bin (which may not be emptied for another week! or perhaps 2 in some areas- or leaving bagged up poo on fences and trees, hedges, etc?

Both are despicable in my book. Bagged up poo still smells, and if in large quantity and for 1 week or more, in Summer temperatures- will start to ferment and smell really badly in a bin and attract flies, etc. In the countryside on fences, hedges, etc- it is terrible too and unsightly and could attract flies and other vermin- who is going to eventually pick it up- or do you expect fences and hedges to be covered with bags within years? No respect, either way.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-Jul-16 12:26:13

We have "Poo fairy" signs round here. Doesn't always do a lot of good. hmm

TriciaF Thu 14-Jul-16 14:11:18

So what do you expect people to do with it granjura - bring it home and put it down the toilet?
Not a bad idea actually, but a lot of faffing about.
Our dog eats raw meat etc and her poo is in small hard balls, and doesn't smell too bad, so easy to pick up.
I think we've had a thread about this before.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 14-Jul-16 14:53:03

I'm talking about putting dog poo bags in bins. Completely agree with opinions about leaving bags of poo anywhere else.

I always bring bags home if I don't pass a poo bin, but if my bin was out for emptying or kept on the street (as opposed to in to my garden), I wouldn't have a problem if someone dropped something in my bin. After all, better in a bin than on the ground.

merlotgran Thu 14-Jul-16 14:53:30

What I meant was...If it's a holiday let and the bin is emptied on a Wednesday and the person with the poo (presumably bagged) puts said poo in bin knowing it's about to be emptied, then I can't see a problem with that.

I did not refer to people who hang bags of poo on trees or dump it in hedges etc., etc.

Maybe I misunderstood the OP.

Stansgran Thu 14-Jul-16 14:55:58

Sorry didn't expect people to say it was ok. It was the recycling bin. I line my household bin and it would have been two weeks if it had been that bin in my own home. I gather it's fortnightly here.

Newquay Thu 14-Jul-16 18:20:01

There was never this problem when we were young was there? So what's changed? Too many dogs I presume?
