Poor little Minou

Early this Summer we noticed a young Siamese cross cat lurking around with a front leg hanging off. We were really upset, but he disapperared and we thought he had died. Then just before we went off to Italy - he re-appeared- the leg had fallen off and it looked awfuls and so sore. I fed him and watered him and made him a nice den in the garden shed- but he was very wild and scared and I couldn't get anywhere near him. Thank goodness my lovely neighbour agreed to look after him whilst we were away. I went to the vet and asked him what to do- and his reply was 'let nature take its course- cats can survive major injuries if they have shelter, food and water' so we did.

Lately he has been coming to the kitchen door to 'beg' first thing in morning and early evening- and I've been talking to him a lot- and recently he's got closer and closer. 3 days ago, I cooked him some fish, and, with head bent down and hand out stretched, sitting on kitchen doorstep - I put fish in my hand and waited. He made a lot of calling noises- but finally took the plunge and I felt him taking the food from my hand. Yesterday I was able to cuddle his head- and tonight - after his sachet of cat food, I did the same with fish in my hand- and he ended up on my lap and purring for the first time.

Very moving- I cried to be honest. Stump is still very red but seems to be granualting and tissue growing well around it. Hopefully he will be inside before really cold weather and snow comes- but neighbour and myself will be spending a few hours this week-end making a much warmer and waterproof den to put at the back of shed. And hopefully we will soon be able to catch it to take to the vet to see if anything can be done to help. Bless his little cotton paws.

One of ours had ear mites. Drove him mad, but quite easy to get rid of.

You're a very good feline nurse, Grandjura!

granjura Mon 07-Nov-16 19:50:15

ah well (but yes- hey ho...shame about exchange rate!)

Jane10 Mon 07-Nov-16 19:29:14

Blimey all these vet visits must be costing a fortune! Worth it though. Happy purring!

Wow the saga continues - he started scratching his ears really badly and we discovered he had ear mites. Went to vet on Saturday to get gel to clean his ears and a does of 3 pipettes to clear them - and had to put the cone back on to stop him tearing his ears off. He really struggled all week-end- so back with him to the vet- who gave me a different treatment and gave him 2 injections of anti-imflammatories. Finally working so we've been able to take the collar off and he his calmly purring next to me on settee.

Poor little thing- weill soon be all behind us and he will have a wonderful life in front of him- but wow.

Bless you for your kindness. Hope he progresses well.

Poor little dog. There must be quite a few such stories.

granjura Wed 02-Nov-16 19:31:54

Oh my, Lillie- how awful for you all... but worse for kittie.

We were doing the pre-channel crossing passport check and de-worming at a vet's in Calais- and there was a Polish family in tears. They were briging their little dog to join them in the UK, where they had been living for a couple of years- and the dog left at her mum's. The vet couldn't read the microchip which was a specific Polish one- and the vet refused to sign the passport. We had to leave them in waiting room to see the vet- and we offered to pay for the little dog to have a new chip put in- but the vet said 'no can do'. They had 2 choices- either get the vet in Poland to send the reader over- and they would have to stay in Calais waiting for it, or go back to Poland to get new international chip put in and come back...

or of course either abandon the dog in Calais, or try and smuggle him. They were gone by the time we got out- and we never found out- I still think of that little dachshund regularly and wonder.

Lillie Wed 02-Nov-16 19:25:17

Bless him.

Just a little warning ..... get the vet to check "la puce" is still there at every visit. We were due to bring our cat back to England and his chip had gone missing! Complete mystery, although apparently it could have been injested. He had to wait another 7 months in a cattery and have all the jabs repeated before he could travel.

I do hope he appreciates all this wink

I am sure he will return your care and devotion with years of purrs and love

Jane10 Wed 02-Nov-16 19:10:05

Good to hear Granjura. He's obviously surrendered himself to your care. You're his Mum now!

whitewave Wed 02-Nov-16 16:05:44

Good to hear the latest. I have been wondering how he is doing.

annsixty Wed 02-Nov-16 15:31:49

You are a real cat lover and I hope he gives you years of love and pleasure.

granjura Wed 02-Nov-16 15:05:29

So stitches out, and microchip in, rabbies jab and passport done - and yeah he has a European passport ;) ;) ;) spray for the bit which is still opened, and ointment for sticky eye ....
on the settee next to me being good- but we will have to put cone back on for a few more days if we ahve to leave alone for any time- and not going out until it has healed well.

Patience is the mother of all virtues - for him... and for us smile such a cutie though, and never mind the extra Euros spent today hey.

Jalima Wed 02-Nov-16 14:45:20

Perhaps the wound is itching (is it supposed to be a good sign?) but the trouble is that you can't tell him that it won't be much longer.
He is obviously quite feisty!

Jane10 Wed 02-Nov-16 13:32:29

Awwww. Do you have 'Dreamies' in Switzerland? Might be time for a few of them for Minou? Good luck at the vet.

granjura Wed 02-Nov-16 12:23:24

He so hates having the collar/cone on .... off to the vet in a mo to get stitches out- but the one stitch doesn't look too good- so vet might say he has to keep collar on. Hope not as it is stressing me out and upsetting me, to see him struggling with it- and to see him desperate to go out.

SueDonim Tue 01-Nov-16 13:19:51

I'm so glad Minou has taken over! grin I hope his war wound heals up soon.

Jane10 Tue 01-Nov-16 12:54:55

Awwww lovely boy. Its always hard when you have to be cruel to be kind.

Lillie Tue 01-Nov-16 12:03:09

La patience est une vertu! Quel polisson!

Hope all, goes well at the vet's tomorrow!

granjura Tue 01-Nov-16 11:31:03

Arghh he is truly comfy here now- but really frustrated since Sunday as we've had to put 'cone of shame' back on and keeping him in. He pulled some of his stitches on Sunday, opening the wound- so Betadine and collar ... he is going crazy with frustration and desperate to go out- but he will just have to wait until we go to vet tomorrow to get stitches out and see what he says.

Totally settled in though- on his back and purring- and has discovered playing and even biting and fighting my hands out of fun and love ...

granjura Mon 24-Oct-16 20:55:45

Went shopping in FRance, cleaned the kitchen and spent several hours in the garden, cutting down perrenials in readiness fr winter- and spent half an hour soaking in my hot jacuzzi afterwards... (no knitting today ;) )

Jane10 Mon 24-Oct-16 20:42:12

I'm amazed you get anything else done at all Granjura!

granjura Mon 24-Oct-16 20:01:26

he did eventually - on my lap now smile

SueDonim Mon 24-Oct-16 19:00:00

Ah, that's nice! He sounds like a keeper even if he won't come in just now. smile
