Gloves or colander?

For the first time last night Harry the cat brought a live mouse into the living room. Instant animation. DH rushed into the shed and returned with a pair of gloves to tackle said beast. I dashed into the kitchen and returned with a colander to ensnare the brute. By the time we returned to the living room Harry had the mouse back in his jaws so it was fairly easy to approach him, hissing and arms flailing, me, whilst DH blocked off the stairs and they were herded out into the garden. After that it was easy to get Harry back in, sans mouse, by rattling his biscuit box, the mouse escaped and we returned to relax mode.
My question is, what would you grab first in a similar situation?

My Boris brings in rats. They are often quite large and jump at you rather than away. I use a large pop bottle with the bottom cut off. I can then told the top, scoop the breast and put a book or shovel Tec on the bottom ??????

My never fail system was to manoeuvre the mouse to corner of room. Have empty ice cream container to hand. In it goes and out of the door before the cat gets out of the cat flap to bring it in again. Never failed.
Brought back lovely memories of our “Peely” who was a diabetic and had to be injected every day with insulin. Cost me a fortune but was worth every penny.

DGS complained bitterly of his wellingtons being too small, was accused of making a fuss, but exonerated when a dead mouse was discovered in one! DD would welcome live mice etc, as her cat leaves the remains of kills around the house.
