Shih Tzu

My daughter has one. A soppier lap dog you would be hard pushed to find. She is a little dear, and likes nothing better than cuddling on your lap but is really game for fun and jollities.

Hi they can be good dogs to have but sadly some can be rather snappy if not socialised enough, also a fair amount are seeming to have "overshot jaws" so if going to look at any i would recommend you have a close look at the teeth/mouth , xx

Any dog will have issues if not properly brought up rather like humans. It is the owners fault not the dogs.

We had one many years ago. We were her second owners, the first ones just went off dogs and she needed a new home. They had a Westie too, so we took him as well. My OH who was working abroad at the time, wasn't best pleased. I can only say Cindylou had a lovely nature. To see her running along the beach with her tail and ears streaming in the wind was such a delight. You do have to look after her fur it gets tangled easily and snow clings underneath. We wouldn't have missed having her for the world. We were told they were Lion dogs that keep evil spirits away from your hearth, (it seemed to work).

They can be barkers , and are determined ‘bossy’ little dogs so need training from the outset . My sister has one, andwhilst not my cup of tea it fits their family well.

Would they be friendly with an older dog

Turning your question around Annie, DD1’s sort-of inlaws have quite an elderly Shi Tzu. A couple of years ago they added a Westie pup to the household and both dogs get along brilliantly. (Both female).

A well socialised pup is likely to be fine with a tolerant older dog * Annie*.

It's harder to second guess with a rescue dog . The only way to be sure is to allow the dogs to meet preferably on neutral territory and see how they react first on the lead then off .

Our neighbours have one. Well behaved and friendly, only barks if there is a reason to. She needs a lot of grooming but is a cute little thing.

Annie, a friend at our dog group has 3 Shih Tzu- they are lovely little dogs. Real characters. There is probably a breed rescue if you don't want a puppy. All my dogs have been good with puppies, including that role of ensuring pups don't get too big for their paws.

My daughter has an extremely large labradoodle/ Irish wolfhound as well, and the shih tzu uses him as a bed. She also cleans his ears for him, which he relishes.

Annie They are a sweet little dog mostly the odd one can be snappy,we have a Lhasa which is similar and she came to us at 18mths old very mistreated and disheveled she settled very quickly and took to other dogs very well,my DCs adore her and she is a lovely girl,there may be pics of her on my profile so you can see the likeness to the Shih-tzu.They take some grooming and trimming every 3 mths,a wonderful little companion for anyone.
