Lovely pussy!
Farage fails to report 5 million gift!
Should I have been a better person?
Morning all.
Clutching at straws here, but I have a very poorly cat and wondered if any of you have dealt with the same issue.
She has been retching/gagging since Sunday evening and until yesterday was also flicking her tongue in and out.
Monday we went to the vet and she had exploratories done.
Her gut was inflamed so they operated on her abdomen, but found nothing.
She came home last night and drank some water, but not eaten.
She's on two meds - one anti-inflammatory and Ranittidene (sp?) as she is full of wind.
She spends her time hiding quietly in a corner and wants to be on her own (very out of character, but understandable at the moment).
She is still doing mini-retches, almost like an unproductive burp.
I slept downstairs with her last night and she had a few little wanders around and then settled down again.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this or what else to do? The vet's on standby to readmit her, but he doesn't have a clue as to the cause.
Help please!
Lovely pussy!
Oh what an absolute darling - just adorable! Fingers and everything crossed - get well soon little pussycat xxx
At least someone laughs at my jokes!
No worries, just concentrate on your darling girl.
Thank you phoenix. Hope you had a brilliant birthday! I pm'd you y'day or the day before (can't remember which, it's all a bit of a blur at the moment!)
Sending every good wish,
Thank you Willow and Waterloo Update below!
Jane I wondered about that, too (the purring), but it sounds as though it was proper purring and she enjoyed the attention the Vet Nurse was giving her and was responding to it. Perhaps I'm being optimistic!
Today's Vet told me that a tube had been passed down her throat to check it when she was admitted before (last week) and her mouth checked, Tomorrow's endoscopy will check again and also her stomach.
She's salivating a lot, which could be stress or because she's trying to avoid swallowing. I remember when I had to be 'put out' to have all four of my wisdom teeth out and my throat was so sore afterwards that, rather than try to swallow, I put a huge wad of tissues on my pillow and dribbled all night

She's still very alert and being given fluids and meds intravenously. No food, so I can't imagine how little she weighs now! She was only 2.8 kg when she was admitted.
Fingers crossed for our little fluffkin tomorrow evening when they'll do the endo!
Not meaning to put a damper on things but purring at the vet's is a sign of stress. Fair enough. Poor puss is bound to be stressed under the circumstances. I hope they can get to the bottom of the problem. When that happened to our boy he just recovered as soon as he got home. We never found out what was wrong!
Hi Squiffy - been thinking of you and little pussycat. You said the vet would call you this evening. Any further news? It’s to hear she is alert and purring! All good signs. Sending all good vibes x
Poor little pusscat, don't they just break your heart. Sending kind thoughts and very best wishes to you both.
Today’s update!
Still not eating, but very alert. Still being given fluids.
Has settled well in her temporary ‘home’.
Purrs like mad when anyone strokes her!
Vet phoning after 6.00pm with update re: Plan (endoscopy/referral)
Grandtante Thank you. They’ve checked all that, but I’m still inclined to think that something has got stuck somewhere. Hopefully, endo will pick it up.
Thank you all for keeping our spirits up, it’s really
appreciated.
Could she have a fish-bone or sewing needle lodged in the roof of her mouth or in a gum? This would explain the retching and gagging, but admittedly not the inflammation.
I found the fish-bone by running my finger over the roof of the cat's mouth, when we had this trouble and the vet removed the bone using tweezers.
I do hope the cat gets well again soon.
Poor girl, she deserves to get through this, after all she's gone through.
It is always worth getting a second opinion from another vet.
Bless her! Seems like she may, at least, not be any worse today but the delay in investigating the seemingly obvious is a worry. Let's hope they can now identify and cure the problem - then, afterwards, maybe consider a change of vet?
Love to you both.
1974cookie Thank you, will do! Vet should be phoning tomorrow morning with update.
This is far worse than when the kids were poorly! At least it could be explained to them.
ethel Thank you for asking. Please see my post 14.03.21 as that’s the most up to date info. I’m clinging to the fact that, despite all the drugs, treatments etc she’s still very alert.
She’s a tiny cat, but a fighter! She only weighs 2.75 kg!
How is you cat today
Thank You squiffy for the updates about your dear Puss-cat.
I am thinking of you both and sending lots of love and hugs.
Please, Please keep us all posted x
Thank you so much for keeping us updated Squiffy. I too am wondering about your vet. I assumed they would have checked her throat based on her symptoms. Anyway, glad little puss is alert - that’s a very good sign! Sending get well wishes and hope she is back home with you very soon x
Hmm, so am I Jane! They have a good reputation ..... I’m not going to pursue it yet, but depending what the endo shows, I will.
Thanks for the update. Am wondering about your vet's competence. Glad the poor cat is at least comfortable.
Thank you Scribbles
I’ve literally just had a call from the Vet with an update.
She still hasn’t eaten. They now think her throat is the problem - which is what I said all along! - and if she still refuses food over the weekend they’ll do an endoscopy on Monday. I thought they’d already checked her throat/oesophagus, so am very
to discover they hadn’t. It was the easiest and most obvious thing to have checked, IMHO. She wouldn’t have needed ‘opening up’ perhaps?
They’re still giving fluids and adding different meds to make sure her tummy’s comfortable.
Apparently, she’s quite alert so that gives me hope.
Just wondering how the poorly puss is today, Squiffy? Any signs of improvement?
Sending get-well wishes for her and hugs for you.
Thanks Hilda and Margaret. She’s almost 5 years old. She’s been Xrayed - and, I think, ultrasounded.
Hilda how lucky you spotted the cotton wool remnants!
She’s being given fluids and may have to have nutrients by tube or whatever.
Thanks again.
How distressing. there has been some good advice, you never said how old she is. If she's over 12 she may be just going downhill like they do.
Constipation is checked by Xray and followed by a pill which works immediately but it doesn't sound like constipation to me
I always made chicken soup for mine. just simmer a chicken leg in salted water for an hour and let her first drink the liquid and if that goes down give some tiny bits of chicken. She will need salt so a stockcube wiil do as well.
Good luck!
