Morning all.

Clutching at straws here, but I have a very poorly cat and wondered if any of you have dealt with the same issue.

She has been retching/gagging since Sunday evening and until yesterday was also flicking her tongue in and out.

Monday we went to the vet and she had exploratories done.

Her gut was inflamed so they operated on her abdomen, but found nothing.

She came home last night and drank some water, but not eaten.

She's on two meds - one anti-inflammatory and Ranittidene (sp?) as she is full of wind.

She spends her time hiding quietly in a corner and wants to be on her own (very out of character, but understandable at the moment).

She is still doing mini-retches, almost like an unproductive burp.

I slept downstairs with her last night and she had a few little wanders around and then settled down again.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this or what else to do? The vet's on standby to readmit her, but he doesn't have a clue as to the cause.

Help please!

Oh bless her - poor little soul but she's hanging on in there so fingers crossed the nutrients they give her pull her round.

And an ear rub from me xx

Waterloosunset Thu 09-Aug-18 09:58:09

Good morning Squiffy - give her one from me too xxx

Jane10 Thu 09-Aug-18 09:36:59

She's really hanging in there! Give her a pat from me.

Squiffy Thu 09-Aug-18 09:22:29

You’re all so lovely! smile

No change this morning.

She’s a little responsive when she’s out of her kennel and put on the table, but still can’t clear all the gunk at the back of her throat, so nurses still doing that for her.

Visiting her again this afternoon.

Me too Waterloosunset!

Waterloosunset Wed 08-Aug-18 21:20:13

Awww Squiffy- yours is the first post I read in the morning and the last post I read at night. It’s been such a rollercoaster for darling pusscat and, of course, for you! I will keep sending positive get well vibes to Little Miss Fighter. She deserves to get through this ?xxx

Sleep well, you need it X

Vet just rang.

All still very iffy, but she did get some reaction when she stroked her behind her ears.

Blood test results show issues, but her lack of food would account for most of that.

Tomorrow she’ll be given her full quota of nutrients - they’ve been building the level up in increments.

The care she’s getting has been amazing, proper caring care IYSWIM, not just doing a job.

Vet phoning again in morning . . .

Thank you all smile

Jane10 Wed 08-Aug-18 17:16:29

Oh Squiffy. Thinking of you.

Scribbles Wed 08-Aug-18 17:10:07

Poor little cat! She's having to cope with such a lot but, if get-well wishes can help at all, then she has a lot on her side.

Squiffy Wed 08-Aug-18 16:24:38

Just back from visiting. Not looking so good today, no response.

I'm hoping that this is just due to the effort of breathing on her own, plus having to cope with extra digestive activity, not to mention dealing with all the drugs.

The Vet is going to ring me later, as she was in surgery when I was there.

Jane10 Wed 08-Aug-18 14:02:25

Hooray! Sounds like she's pulling through!

HildaW Wed 08-Aug-18 14:00:00

Wonderful...what a fighter!

Waterloosunset Wed 08-Aug-18 11:46:17

Wow come on, come on! I love her spirit - give her an extra cuddle from me. Lots of love to you both xxx

Squiffy Wed 08-Aug-18 11:27:36

Update

She got through the night without needing any O2! Absolutely amazing!

Still a long way to go, but they are increasing her food (still through a tube) today.

I'm visiting again this afternoon.

Thanks all of you smile

Squiffy Wed 08-Aug-18 11:25:23

Thanks phoenix. Indeed, I remember your cats' adventures well!

Oh Squiffy you may have read some of my previous ramblings about my mogs, past and present, and from your post I can feel the love you have for yours!

They definitely claim a place in our hearts.

Sending absolutely every good wish to you and your girl,

With much love,

Phoenix

Not silly at all, Squiffy. You love her and she loves you in the ways a cat does and she will have known your voice, your touch and, above all, your scent. So glad you've had the opportunity for a visit; it will have done you both the world of good. Just keep on keeping on and look forward to the days when she'll be home again and twining around your feet - a way to go yet but with continuing care and lots of love, she'll make it. xx

HildaW Tue 07-Aug-18 19:58:32

You are not silly - love comes in all shapes and sizes and boy do we need it nowadays! I often find our daft dog a lot of hard work....she demands that she joins us in the bed at night and we let her. Yes I know its bad practise but she had a horrid accident and was traumatised and would no longer settle at night downstairs. She's a daft rescue with issues and we know she was heading down the early 'euthanasia' route because she had not had the proper early training and socialising and just would not have been suitable for most homes.
She still brings us joy when we watch her at full pelt across a field or going daft over 'woozles' in the garden and she's been great just getting us out of the house for a good walk...so good for the troubled soul.
Wishing you all strength to cope and all the best to you both.X

No Squiffy, it is not silly at all.
Your beloved Pusscat means the world to You.
Something that we all understand on this forum. My Partner and I have 3 pusscats that we absolutely adore, and would do anything to keep them safe, happy, and well.
Keep visiting your beloved Cat. You don't know for sure if she did not recognise your voice, or your touch, but please just keep going to see her.
She will recognise you, believe me xx

Jane10 Tue 07-Aug-18 19:02:14

I'm sure she'll have recognised your voice. We once had a cat who never miouwed as soon as I walked in to the vets to collect him after a minor op he started to miouw loudly when he heard my voice.

Squiffy Tue 07-Aug-18 18:49:06

Grandtante I hope your cat makes a speedy recovery, too. Hopefully, the antibiotics will work their magic quickly!
