Dog peeing indoors

Our doggie who’s nearly 13 has a cyst on one adrenal gland and a tumour on the other. Vet can’t do anything for her. Problem is the excess drinking and the wee in the house overnight and has wet twice since Saturday. Loath to go for the PTS route while she’s still ‘happy’ and eating. Has anyone used nappies, the Pets At Home ones have dreadful reviews

Wildrose24 Fri 01-Feb-19 08:01:54

We had this situation too and managed with using puppy pads and zoflora after accidents. Our dog was happy and active for quite a while on this regime and lots of tlc and regular vet visits. It was quite hard work but she was otherwise ok we did make the decision to have her pts eventually .Although we we heart broken she had a peaceful passing and we felt we had done our best for her until she was ready to go.

That’s what we want too. Taking up the water at 9pm has worked again last night and she doesn’t drink as much as I thought she would when it’s put back. I need to mop my wooden floor with vinegar/water solution today, it’s good for urine I’m told. Febreze pet isn’t for wood.

God news again GrannyIris, just thought I would mention.
Don't feel bad about her having no water overnight.
My old girl is in the bedroom all night and I've never had a water bowl in there. So she's never has a drink during the night.

Buffybee Fri 01-Feb-19 10:28:38

Good of course!?

GrannyIris5 Fri 01-Feb-19 11:46:16

Thanks Buffybee (how do I get names in bold?)
Main worry today is daughter’s std poodle diagnosed with Addisons on Monday, having to spend today on a drip because she won’t eat - nothing since Monday apart from little bit of peanut butter to get the pills to go down. She’s only 6.

Buffybee Fri 01-Feb-19 14:55:19

I'm sorry about your Daughters girl, hopefully the vets can treat her successfully. I've just had to Google the symptoms and as I'm sure you know, appetite is normally affected.
Crikey! You are in the wars! flowers
You "bold" letters by placing an asterisk immediately before the name , without a space, then type the name and place an asterisk immediately after, with no space.

Buffybee thank you.
No update on poodle, but our girl keeping dry from snow and wee lol

Buffybee Fri 01-Feb-19 15:29:35

Bless her!!

Buffybee Fri 01-Feb-19 15:33:14

My girl (the real Buffy) is snoring here in her bed.
She's not too keen on the snow either.

ClareAB Fri 01-Feb-19 22:17:18

Would she accept being put in a crate with puppy pads all over inc on her bed?
Or, could you move her bed to a place like kitchen or bathroom with tiles/lino on and cover with pads inc her bed?
Could you get up a couple of times in the night to take her for a wee?

GrannyIris5 Sat 02-Feb-19 06:54:34

ClareAB we have our 3rd dry night. Picking up the water is working so far. She sleeps in the kitchen already x
Poodle spent the day on a drip and given anti emetic? Vets don’t seem worried about no appetite but has got probiotic paste to take.

Esspee Sat 02-Feb-19 07:45:04

GrannyIris5 to get text in bold just put an asterisk before and after the word.

How I wish that in this country we allowed humans to be PTS rather than go through prolonged suffering. Why can we show compassion to animals and not to our fellow humans?

GrannyIris5 Sat 02-Feb-19 08:16:17

Esspee I think most people would agree with you.
If our vet had said she was in pain we wouldn’t have hesitated. I’m sure we will know when the time comes.

Wildrose24 Sat 02-Feb-19 20:55:06

I think you will know.It may sound odd but my own beloved pet looked at me the day before we had her PTS as if to say it is time now, that helped me make the decision.I had read that pets do this but did not believe it till it happened to me.

GrannyIris5 Sun 03-Feb-19 08:05:12

Another dry night, at this rate I think I ought to order another piece of memory foam for her bed.

Buffybee Sun 03-Feb-19 09:28:37

Great news! Fourth night and no accidents!
It seems as though you have 'cracked it' GrannyIris, I'm so happy for you and your dear little girl. smile

GrannyIris5 Sun 03-Feb-19 09:50:26

Ordered new foam already, but I’ll put it in a bin bag for protection this time, she won’t notice with an extra cover on it.

GrannyIris5 Thu 07-Feb-19 07:53:11

Just as an extra. Pia the poodle has started to eat again, she went a week without food. We were Crying tears of joy, each day managing a little more, going to make some ‘satin balls’ to get her back to usual weight ASAP. Vet tomorrow for her check up. Our little ‘wetter’ is still coping overnight with the water taken away at 9.

GrannyIris5 Thu 16-May-19 07:23:43

Sad to say our little Sola will be PTS this afternoon as her back legs keep collapsing and to a lesser extent one of the front ones too. She is often found on the floor unable to get up on her own and can no longer go for walks as she collapses. Poor love can’t squat to poo, although she has no control over her bowels now. She is so ‘down’ and doesn’t respond to fussing and stroking. Better a week early than a week too late, but it doesn’t help the guilt and it’s taken us a good few weeks of discussion. Didn't want her to have a poor quality of life to spare our feelings. Don’t know how our other dog will be without her around. ?

Iam64 Thu 16-May-19 08:12:44

just catching up with this and so pleased the regime is working GrannyIris.
My ancient spaniel became incontinent in her last year, but fortunately she always slept in her bed so I could change the bedding easily.
Our very old rescue boy discovered the joy of crates when we had a puppy, we'd leave the door open during the day for the pup but often find the old boy sleeping in there, happy to be away from the other two. It was so useful when the old dog became very ill, back legs going on him, couldn't get up again. For the final 3 weeks of his life we were able to leave him in the crate (door closed if we went out) and he was happy and safe. We never crate trained him as he arrived age 2 but I've crate trained pups and dogs since then because it's so useful if they're sick, recovering from injury etc.
Sending best to you an your dog

seacliff Thu 16-May-19 08:25:41

Oh so sorry to read this GrannyIris. You gave her the very best life, and now it is kindest for her to let her go peacefully.

I am in the same situation with my lovely cat Soots. I have just booked for him to go to vet this morning. He is onl 4 and has cancer. We have been trying to give him a bit more good time, but now we know it's the right time for him.

flowers for you and Sola.

sodapop Thu 16-May-19 08:35:45

So sorry to hear this GrannyIris you did the very best you could for your girl and now it's time to let her go. I will be thinking of you this afternoon.
God bless you and Sola thanks

GrannyIris5 Thu 16-May-19 09:51:38

‘Iam64’ ‘seacliff’ & ‘sodapop’ I’m very grateful for your kind words. Had a call from DIL earlier to say one of their cats was run over and killed, he was too busy going through a black bin bag to notice the car. It was one of their neighbours! He was 18 and instant but such a shock for eldest son and his family. All be glad when today is over.

vissos Thu 16-May-19 11:58:16

Hi GrannyIris5. So sorry to read your news. I too had a girl with water problems. She was on steroids to help her back legs, hence the peeing. They gave her an extra 6 months so I didn't mind. Lost her just after her 16th birthday (I'd only had her 2 years). Take care. ?

vissos Thu 16-May-19 12:01:21

So sorry to read your news seacliff. Just 4, it really is unfair. Thinking of you too ?
