Having recently arrived from France with our dog Hattie the Pug and two rescued cats Mimi and Ginger, both beautiful. Mimi has since died of old age. With our budget stretched we just couldn’t afford vet insurance.
Ginger developed a cancerous lump on his lower eye rim. I took him to the vet who quoted minimum of £800
, probably more like £1200 plus that days fees plus after care fees.
Impossible for us but Ginger was losing blood from the eye and as the vet had no other option I drove home in absolute bits.
My daughter recommended a local vet near to her, an independent who she liked.
On attending this vet, the operation is £400 to remove his eye but doesn’t need doing urgently and he gave me eye drops to reduce bleeding. This meant we can save for the operation and still save Gingers life.
I drove home relieved. Ginger will have the operation in a few weeks but in the mean time we keep him comfortable.
Ginger is not in pain, otherwise very happy and content.
The difference in cost was considerable and the original quote impossible for us.
Delighted.
Ginger is great.
