Long Term Treatment Costs

My little 7yo staff has been diagnosed with Dry Eye and it will need long term treatment for the rest of her life. We are at the vets on Wednesday to get our options but as usual I am pre empting what will happen. My issue is, I really cannot afford to pay vets bills running into thirty and forty pounds a month. I do not have insurance for her and I don't know what happens in cases like this. I could not see her suffering, and she may have to have her eye removed if it is a bad as they think, but to check that I think I will have to pay for an MRI scan. I know I should just wait until I have seen the vet on Wednesday, but wondered if anyone knew what sort of costs we will be talking about for her lifelong treatment of this condition. Are there any vets on here that can give me an idea of what will be involved.

Scentia I think PDSA help people with limited incomes if their pets need treatment. I haven't lived in UK for a while so it may be different now.

These are hidden costs associated with pet ownership and one of the reasons why people should think carefully before acquiring a pet.

PDSA will only help if you have Benefits and I don't, I have just had to lower my income very much since the start of this year for many reasons including having to take on a second job during COVID so it isn't that I didn't think before getting a pet it is that since getting her my circumstances have changed no end and I don't quite know what to do. I never bothered with insurance as we were quite well off and I didn't worry at all about vets costs. but now, it is just so different.

pdsa offer subsidised rates ....but only those receiving discounts on council tax.... blue cross offer advise... look them up...

Don't panic dry eye is usually treated with drops and you can buy them online with a prescription from the vets. This may or may not prove effective but I doubt you'd need an mri right from the off, that's usually done once drops stop being effective and nerve damage is suspected. Just tell the vet you prefer going down the conservative route for treatment. Drops may be effective for many years to come.
