Do you sleep with your pet?

This new cat of mine is very affectionate and as soon as he sees me heading for bed he goes down and gets in too. It's a bit annoying as he wants to have his head on the pillow and paws around me. I shut the door last night when he started to lick me and then was afraid I had hurt his feelings. Should I just lock him in the kitchen?

The thought of pets sleeping in the bedroom just turns my stomach!
It means my sister will no longer stay with us as they insist their dog sleeps in the bedroom with them. They did try leaving him in the kitchen once and although the dog was perfectly happy they couldn't sleep without him!
To add insult to injury, for years when we had a dog we had to leave him with a minder when we visited their family or they visited us as BIL is allergic (theirs is a poodle). Of course that isn't an option for their dog!

Our pets have just slept wherever they want. Our current three - one sleeps downstairs in his bed, one sleeps either upstairs in his bed or downstairs on the sofa and the third sleeps in a chair in the bedroom but will sometimes sleep on the bed.

Yes. She is our rescue cat who was so nervous from bad times before we adopted her. She just wants to be where we are.
She’s no trouble at night and she’s so very relaxed with us.
We get much joy from her. ?

My lovely Phoebe is exactly the same. She has a furry doughnut bed which I place on "her" side of the bed, and she knows when it's bedtime and puts herself to bed waiting for me. She's no trouble at all, and I love waking up to her purring little face.

She is a rescue cat who I rescued and bottle-fed when she was only 5 weeks old. She's loving and affectionate and just wants to be with me. I absolutely love her to bits, and could not have got through lockdown without her.

Yes, my little dog sleeps on my bed (rarely under the covers). My last dog did the same. I live on my own and we can do just as we please. My.dogs have been my constant companions since 2003, the year of my father's death. They have given me comfort in times of trouble when no.human came knocking at my door. Naturally we prefer to be together at night.

After reaching the age of 67 without a pet I can now say emphatically, gloriously yes. I now have a 2 year old grand-dog which ( or should it be who?) sleeps over occasionally if my daughter is working an odd shift. He is a cavalier king charles spaniel and I adore him. When he stays I decamp to spare room for the night with throws and blankets to cover his side of the bed, watch TV, read, and just look at him sleeping and listen to the snoring. Once hes asleep he’s out for the count, and doesnt stir till morning. I love having him by me, - other half not so keen hence my moving into spare room - though hes not allowed on pillows or inside the bed. I relish every minute. Hes a real snuggler and never tires of the fussing and attention. Next day throws etc washed, windows opened, room aired and all put clean till next time. Long may it continue ??

I’ve slept with my dogs and cats ever since I got rid of the undesirable husband. How lonely to go to bed alone!
My ex feral cat is scared of everything and hides away all day but at night he comes to be stroked and loved. I just wish he wouldn’t sleep on the pillow, it hurts when he lies on my hair.

Sorry for your loss susieboo, staffies are just THE best snugglers. Mine is not content with just sleeping on the bed, she has to get under the duvet!!! Wouldn’t have it any other way, such a comfort to me. And no she doesn’t smell.

We have never allowed pets in the bedroom . Our dogs have not been allowed on furniture either although the cat was!

DanniRae Sat 07-Nov-20 09:11:35

If my little dog would sleep in her bed in our bedroom or even on a throw at the end of our bed then she would be welcome. BUT if she ever gets near our bed she dives right in - under the duvet - and I don't want that! So she sleeps downstairs, as I have already said, on the sofa, surrounded by cushions grin

She’s a beauty CocoPops. What an immaculately trimmed tail! ?

Yes, my dog sleeps by my feet on the bed. I sleep better knowing she's there.

All our cats over the years have jumped on the bed, and sometimes stayed. But dogs, NO. Rule number one, dogs sleep downstairs in their bed, no discussion.

Then Emma came - abandonned aged 13 by her family who wanted to travel- and they put her 11 year old son just befor dropping her here. She had been here with him many times- and they were very happy to sleep downstairs in the lobby at the end of the corridor. But on her own- she cried a whole night and I did not get a wink of sleep. Second night she howled like a wolf, and I came downstairs and slept on the couch. 3rd night- the same - and at 3am, I went upstairs, exhausted- and she followed. And that was ... it. We have a massive bed made up of 2 small doubles- so 9ft- and there is space for everyone. Minou 3 legs often joins us too.

Emma was 15 on Tuesday- and will sleep on our bed until the time comes. That's OK.

My border terrier has slept on my bed since he was 10 weeks old. I began with the best intentions as directed by the breeder when I purchased Milo. I put him in his cage and left him in the sitting room. I gave in to his whining and transported him upstairs to my bedroom. I gave in to his whining and transported him to my bed. He is now 6 years old and he still will not sleep alone!

Nonamedone Fri 06-Nov-20 10:06:55

Yes I do and I think it is the best part of the day when we all snuggle up at night on my massive bed . I have three dogs all girls, Tina the chihuahua, Betty the Jack Russell and our latest sister coco the pug . They are all rescue dogs and need a lot of reassurance but I wouldn't have it any other way. grin

The cat is shut out of the room (as I'm allergic to her) but the little dog sleeps on or in my bed. My previous dogs have been too big to share a bed with!

Ellianne Thu 05-Nov-20 22:14:18

Ditto Alexa I put a quilted bed protector over our duvet and wash it frequently at 50 degrees.

Hellogirl1 Thu 05-Nov-20 22:08:44

Mia sleeps on my pillow, behind my head. I don`t mind, but if I forget and put my arms up she sometimes gets clobbered, and scarpers in annoyance!

Alexa Thu 05-Nov-20 22:01:22

I cover my bed during the day time with a fleece throw that tucks in all round. My whippet lurcher sleeps on the bed all day as her day bed, and sometimes when I am tired I lie down beside her. Fleece throws are easy to wash at 40 and line dry .

Daftbag1 Thu 05-Nov-20 20:41:35

Our dog kindly allows us to share her bed, being a clever girl, she is now champion at pushing my husband out, so it becomes a girls only bed.

If we kick her out, she opens the door and gets in without invitation.

Puzzler61 Thu 05-Nov-20 19:53:16

Those beds are so chic! (Cute cats too).
We got a cat igloo for our tabby girl but she shunned it from the start, preferring our bed.

TrendyNannie6 Thu 05-Nov-20 19:27:38

And this is where I sleep

TrendyNannie6 Thu 05-Nov-20 19:19:32

This is where we sleep

TrendyNannie6 Thu 05-Nov-20 19:16:51

No we have our own beds
