Our daughter's cat has just been run over

newnanny that's awful. There certainly are bad people around. I really hope that somehow that poor puss makes its way home.

So sorry about the Bengal. We had a Bengal and she was very beautiful. We let her out but she mostly just went into our large garden. After 4 years she disappeared one day. I rang vet as she is microchipped but not be found but vet told me 2 maincoons had also gone missing on same day who lived very close to us. Vet said most likely someone stole to breed from her not knowing she was neutered. Vet said once person realises she does not get pregnant they will kick her out. She might come home. She went missin on September 12th and we still wonder out calling for her. Not knowing what happened is worse. We lost another cat after it was run over a long haired grey. She was a beautiful cat and so affectionate. She was run over outside our house. My son found her in morning. She still looked perfect. We buried her in our garden under her favourite tree.

We lost our cat two and a half years ago when he was hit by a car ,we said no more cats ! 6 months later we had two beautiful kittens ,sisters .We let them out ,one is a wanderer and the other a bit of a home bird,she goes out th back door and round the front so I have to let her back in,her sister will stay out for hours only coming home ofr food.They both come in as soon as its dark though .We wouldn't be without them .
Hope your wee kitten gets well and thrives ,the children will love its antics ,theres nothing as much fun as a kitten

So sad to read about your daughters cat. We lost our 'Tiddles' by a hit and run car accident some years ago.
They're part of the family aren't they and missed so much.

Yes, my DD did report the breeder, so hopefully action will be taken. I have to say for such a tiny ball of fluff she is amazing bouncy and unfazed by anything, so I am hopeful. The vet has given cream for her poor little bottom, it was so sore when she arrived that she couldn't sit down!

I hope the kitten recovers with treatment from the vet and tlc.

Cat's Protection always has cats and kittens that need good loving homes.
Some of these breeders need to be investigated and banned from keeping animals.

Oh dear. That's awful although it was an understandable notion for your DD. I hope the poor wee thing picks up. There are such unscrupulous breeders around.
My DD got a new kitten on 23rd Dec but she'd seen the mother and had her pick of the litter weeks before as the breeder wouldn't let the kittens go till they were 12 weeks old. She also lives nearby so was a very good bet.

I dare say your DD paid a ridiculous amount of money for the poor little thing.

There are times when you really have to bite your tongue. DD went out and got a new kitten off a well known pet finding website a few days later, despite my cautioning that just before Christmas was not a good time to take on a kitten. She didn't see the mother cat, and although told it was the last kitten, the breeder was advertising kittens with the same photo a day later. The poor little thing was far too small, had appalling diarrhoea and I was worried they were facing another tragedy. No vets would look at her over Christmas. When they finally got to see one it was discovered she was also riddled with worms, I was so worried for the GC. Worms have now been treated, but the diarrhoea is persisting and she is collecting stool samples. The urge to say 'I told you so' is overwhelming, but I have to hold it back!

There are not many things to say but you can show them the rainbow bridge sitecob the internet it tells you where you pets go and you can leave a message for your cat and light a candle.hope this helps.then when time has passed look at cat rescue sites and the photos and see if they would like another cat.not the same colour though

Such a terribly sad thing to happen and so close to Christmas too especially when your daughter has been so ill. It's awful when you lose a pet in whatever circumstances but when it's an accident like this it's particularly traumatic.

We had a dog run over on the road behind our house shortly after moving there many years ago. I remember ringing my mum in floods of tears and her reaction being one of why did we let it happen?! It was shock of course as she was very upset too. I had to tell the children when they came home from school and we all sat on the sofa crying together

Some breeds of cats like Bengals and Turkish Vans are very lively and very good climbers so need their freedom.

Other cats, especially rescue cats who might have had a sad and difficult start in life, are happy to stay close to home, or even to be indoor cats. I had a rescue cat from the age of 5 weeks who was terrified to go over the threshold even if I was with her all the time. It would have been cruel to force her or to shut her outside.

It's impossible to generalise.

So sad. I’ve lost two cats to road accidents. One of them was hit by a glancing blow from a car and knocked out, died a few hours later without a mark on him.

I wouldn’t keep a cat indoors all the time, though. It’s just so unnatural for them. At least my cats had a good free life exploring gardens and climbing trees, as cats should.

So sad to hear your news! One of my cats is a Bengal, they are full of character so I am sure he will be sadly missed.

I agree not knowing what has happened to a pet is the worst possible thing, but if you have your cat chip-marked you stand a much better chance of being informed if it is run over or found lying dead somewhere.

I don't think you can replace him with a kitten, he was a much loved individual, and the children are old enough to need to grieve first. Apparently the car didn't even stop. He was a large cat, you can't hit something that size and not know it.

Sad but a kitten for Christmas will be healing compensation, never easy but be positive.

It is so hard to lose a furfamily member.

Shelters and pet adoption organizations on the US make you sign the cat you are going to adopt most remain indoors at all times a I fully support that

We are a dog family. But losing a loved pet is so hard, especially on the little ones.

I too could never have an outdoor cat. I'd be following it from dusk till dawn!

B9: I had a Burmese cat that spent most of his short’ish life trying to escape. He did have an outside cat pen. When he died after a short illness I wished I’d let him have his freedom. I don’t know how we managed to keep him in for years. He even escaped onto the roof through a sky light once and my husband had to climb up onto the roof to rescue him. I couldn’t face having a cat again.

I just can't bear the worry, and we keep our two in all the time, I was really worried when DD first got him, because I thought he might be stolen or run over, but she believed in giving him his freedom
