Bl**dy Brexit!

I have 2 cats. One, the female, will eat anything. Some non foodstuffs even. The boy, is an awkward little s*d. He will ONLY eat Whiskas fish pouches in jelly. He has made himself ill in the past, by not eating and I have had to force feed him and drip water into his mouth.

Sooooo, onto the Brexit effect. We have a grocery delivery once a week. I arranged it last year just before the first lockdown. BUT the flippin' supermarket is sold out of Whiskas fish pouches in jelly. They are actually sold out of ALL flavours of Whiskas pouches.

Not sure what to do now!

I wouldn't mind, but he was a damn stray. He should think himself lucky to be fed at all.

Does he understand English? (I am being serious btw)

We presumed our cat was English but she didn't half come running if we broke into a chorus of 'O ForTUNA.' grin

I haven't got a cat any more. But I do have a lawn that appears to be a cat's public lavatory. I blame bloody Brexit.

I jest not.
A friend has a rescue dog from overseas (I can't remember quite where, Eastern Europe somewhere) and he didn't understand English.
He's very bright and has learnt now.

So that's where they've all gone!
We used to get the neighbourhood cats in our back garden, but they've disappeared recently.

Maybe they've claimed Irish nationality?

Thank goodness!

zooplus website is really good for pet stuff. It is a German firm however.

Calendargirl Wed 13-Jan-21 06:55:06

I think the Brexit link is that anything bad is blamed on it by the OP.

3dognight Wed 13-Jan-21 08:46:58

Hope you find some Whiskas soon, or maybe try real fish ?
I don't have cats anymore but did have two pets and fed three strays at one point, I fed them all outside. A blackbird and his mate used to wait behind the cats to get anything bits left in the dishes, when their babies fledged they brought them too to wait behind the cats for their fix of Whiskas! Cats never bothered the birds, and nothing got wasted.

I'd be prepared to own cats if I could guarantee they'd be as community spirited as yours 3dognight

I thought Whiskas was made at Pedigree Petfoods in Melton Mowbray GagaJo, when I first got married I lived in Melton, and it was a very smelly place! May have closed down now though.

They make Mars Bars too. But probably not in the same place!

Do you know if it's true that the factory has to be able to switch to producing food fit for human consumption within 48 hours? DH always comes out with that whenever anyone mentions Melton Mowbray.

I cook white fish for nextdoor's moggies and they leave roast chicken for them in the fridge. We feed them twice a day when they are away. Bloody cats eat better than we do.

Oldwoman70 Wed 13-Jan-21 09:28:49

If I am reading this right - OP is ordering something made in UK from a UK company to be delivered to somewhere in UK but it is Brexit's fault she can't get it!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 13-Jan-21 09:36:17

Just checked with AC who feeds their cat the same Whiskas pouches, no shortage in local Co-Op and Sainsbury’s (Essex)

This is really thoroughly amusing. Keep going ladies. Love it and really appreciate all the laughter I can glean. Such banter is a joy. Ta.

One time my prawn cocktail was replaced with a low fat prawn cocktail. Well I don't know about you but I find the low fat ones almost inedible. My dog enjoyed it.

But hasn't this happened to most of us?

Wherever in the world we may be.

Callistemon Wed 13-Jan-21 10:00:27

That is truly shocking Lucretzia! How are you expected to eat a low fat prawn cocktail - what were they thinking? shock
My dog may have turned his nose up at that, though, he was very discerning. He would stick his nose in the air, walk off and look at me as if to say "Do you expect me to eat this muck"?

???

How about microwaving some coley or other cheap fish - if you can get it.

At least he’s consistent about what he likes! Our cat would think X flavour was the best thing ever for about a week, after which he’d just lick all the jelly off and yowl at the kitchen cupboard in the hope of magicking something better out.

That’s in addition to visiting soft hearted neighbours and doing his starving orphan kitten act, of course.

Ellianne Wed 13-Jan-21 10:37:42

Foodwise our cats aren't over fussy, which is surprising considering they are French.
Their "takeaways" diet over the years has been extensive though. In their homeland it was mice and voles from the fields, bats from the barn and frogs (of the amphibian kind) from the swimming pool filter. O e day they caught a green woodpecker. When we moved to London they switched to rats, squirrels, pigeons, and parakeets. They've taken on wild boar and foxes in their time, though thankfully not as food. At 15 years old they haven't done badly, a mixed diet has served them well.

I thought that you had named your cat Brexit Gaga like another poster thought, as Whiskas is made by a UK firm.
Sometimes things are hard to get hold of for no obvious reason so it may be that other stores have it, or your delivery will have it next time. Some cats are very odd in their eating habits it’s true, but rest assured he would eat anything ( as would we all) if hungry enough.

Callistemon Wed 13-Jan-21 10:57:11

I have a vision of someone standing outside the door every evening, shouting "Brexit, Brexit", and banging a spoon on a metal cat's dish.

GagaJo Wed 13-Jan-21 11:08:34

I have friends who named their cat Brexit. He was a rehomed male stray. A lovely, delightful old boy. Friendly, delighted to be with people. Unlike my ungrateful, neurotic lad.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 13-Jan-21 11:19:11

I had a dog called Cider, imagine what the neighbour thought when I stood outside calling Cider, Cider We have rehired a cat and she is a delinquent teenagers but she will eat anything. Her favourite is my bowl of cornflakes if she can get at it but she turns her nose up at my cooked chicken.

Chewbacca Wed 13-Jan-21 11:25:52

Have we established yet what the tenuous link between cat food, and the lack thereof, is to "bloody brexit"? confused

MawBe Wed 13-Jan-21 11:32:55

Why would you rehire a cat Barmeyoldbat and how much do you pay her?
Per mouse (zero hours contract? ) ? boo! Or a daily rate?
