Telling thetime

Annaram1 The time we are now is the correct GMT if we stop then we should stop once we have put them back in October not forward in Spring. The DST Daylight Saving Time we have in Spring and Summer is the WRONG one.

My Mum’s cat used to trot down the road every day keeping Mum company on her way to work. The cat would always be waiting at the same spot every evening to keep Mum company on her return from work. The cat was a real chatterbox as well. Cats like routine just like everyone and will try to get extra treats just like most of us. I love cats and their strange ways.

Our dad would wait by the back door for my dad to come home from work-8am if he was on night shift, 5pm if he was on days,

You are insinuating that cats cannot tell the time....this is based entirely on one cat....yours. Cats have a good sense of time and are very intelligent.

When I rescued my little dog she didn't even know what a treat was, a toy, nothing. Now she knows times for a certain treats, playtime and I ask her if she wants to put her bra on ( her harness) and she's at the cupboard for it to go for her walk. Animals are so clever, have more sense than some people I know.
My workman doing my garden doesn't seem to know the time as he never arrives when he says he will!

My cats have always access to dry cat food at any time - unlike dogs they don't tend to overeat (there are of course exeptions). I'll keep it up on a worktop the dog can't get it and recently we now have a kiddie gate on the kitchen door so the cats can be safely fed in there as the dog can't get through.
Our cats all know that they get their food pouch when I get up whatever the time that may be. We don't have a problem with them asking loudly for it as they go help themselves to their dry food when hungry.

Cat I had seemed to know the time certain things would happen. Sitting at door waiting to escort children down the road a bit ( no adult escort) on way to school. After school going to same spot to await children returning. Milk man came on Friday for his money and cat was always sitting at front door awaiting a treat milkman gave her. Couldn't have been routine but how did she know when it was 3.45 pm children home time and when it was Friday?

All my cats have been able to tell the time, but that has not necessarily meant that they wanted to, or let on that they could!.

" Well, now you are up, so you can feed me!" is a fairly common feline attitude.

Here the cat's dinner time is 6p.m. At five he starts reminding me that I have a cat and that said cat is getting hungry. He knows very well that he will have to wait, but he tries it on every flipping day.

My cat knows the time for breakfast and dinner and also when he has his teeth cleaning treats. Lunch time treats are 12.30 and night time treats are when ever I go to bed. He has biscuits in a bowl for whenever he wants them but if the biscuits get a bit low he'll go out and catch a mouse and put that in his bowl to remind me!!

When I was a child we had 2 cats & one of them knew when my dad was coming home from work. He did not come home at the same time every day either. She would cry to be let out & rush down to the bottom of the garden & sit on the post of the back gate so she she could bash him on the head as he came out of the garage.
Mum knew it was it was time to start dinner as soon as Tibs cried to be let out. She really loved my Dad (it was mutual!).

My cat is 14yrs old he knows the time (sometimes better than me). He tends to start at 5.30 am (I used to get up for work, retired now) he will tolerate a cuddle for an hour before he decides enough is enough. He know breakfast is at 7am and will generally disappear eitherto my bed or outside if weathers nice but he's alway in by 4.30 pm ready for tea! He also knows when it's bed time and will go and sit on the stairs at 10.30pm and wait(impatiently) for me!

Our poor pets will have a shock when the clocks change. I for one think its a stupid idea and wish we didn't have to faff about with the time.

Many years ago we had an incredibly clever, lovely Border Collie.
She adored my grandfather who would visit every Saturday bringing a treat for her.
He'd arrive at some point in the morning but we always knew because she'd immediately go absolutely frantic to sit in the porch and watch the road, as he turned the corner she'd bark her little head off etc!! She was never wrong although his timing wasn't regular, he walked so there was no car noise but she was never wrong!

My cat always gets out of his bed at feeding time, especially his evening meal, he can be snoring away and dead on 5 o’clock he opens his eyes and heads for the kitchen

My lovely black Labrador would bring her dish to me at five o’clock on the dot...!!!!! ?

My cat, Mrs Puss, used to meet me from the bus when I got home from work every day. She sat on the wall next to the bus stop, greeted me with her tail high in the air then ran down the wall to my house, keeping just in front of me as I ran down the adjacent pavement too. She only ever met that particular time bus and only if I was at work.

My cats can tell the time, but will be confused when we change the clocks!

I used to feed my dog at 5pm. One day a friend called for a cup of tea and a chat. At 5pm we were still talking. The dog left the room. She returned, carrying her food bowl, which she firmly plonked down at my feet. I took the hint!

My dog is amazing, he has a treat every evening at 8.00, and he knows the time to the nearest 10 minutes, if we forget he will come and tell us. He also knows when it’s 8am when he has his breakfast, and if we aren’t up he will bark, but not before then. They are so clever.

Our dogs knew exactly when it was time for a walk, they would just stare at us until we couldn't stand the reproachful look in their eyes. Animals are very good at guilt tripping their humans.

Our cats mysteriously materialise in the kitchen at their regular mealtimes.

Of course, if we're in the kitchen they think that it's an additional mealtime!

My cat is smart. He knows I'm soft so he goes to the cat food every time he comes in. His new friend has started asking in too but I don't feed him.
When my cat comes in at night he goes straight down to bed instead of coming in to the tv room. He knows the time and usually sleeps till about 6 when he goes out.

One of my cats is like yours, watermeadow. She used to sleep with me but would wake me up, earlier and earlier. Initially, it was her being active on the bed, working her way up to a gentle pat on the face, but she overplayed her hand with a claw to my arm on one occasion. Now they both are locked downstairs.

Breakfast is when I get up. And I am not getting up at the behest of a moggy!

Our lovely ginger cat ? Patrick was thick as two short planks generally but could tell the time .

Everyday at 4pm like clockwork he sat outside waiting for my dad, to come home from work . They adored each other.

He was so stupid that one day he sat in the road for a change and got run over .

He survived with a lot of TLC and stayed on the pavement after that.

I think our current crop of cats do have a sense of time, or would it be more routine? Only one will shout for her food though that is more or less around the time they get their next sachet.
They definitely know lunchtime when they congregate in the kitchen hoping for a treat of ham or cheese.
The youngest one knows exactly when it is approaching lock in time when he races to the back door to get his cat treats used for getting him in should he be out.
(If (when) I wake during the night one of our cats is straight there, not asking for food but for a fuss. Maybe that’s it Watermeadow, He misses you!)
