He was his usual self this morning then when I went to put laundry in the washing machine he was just lying there. I knew at a glance.
How can this be? Poor boy. He was only 10. Sorry . Just lamenting.

So sorry to hear your news. Our pets are such a great part of our lives. I'm sure he had a wonderful life with you .

I feel for you.

It is such a loss, but it sounds as if Baz didn't suffer and at least you have been spared the agonising debate with yourself about whether it is time to make that last ghastly trip to the vet!

I still expect to see the cat that died three years ago, and now that his surviving brother is coming up for fourteen, I am trying to accept that we probably won't have him much longer.

That last photo shows clearly that Baz was happy right up to the end.

I'm so sorry, Aveline.
The suddenness is so hard for you, but a blessing for your gorgeous boy Baz, he didn't suffer and you didn't have to watch him decline.
I'm sure he had the best life with you and yours.flowers

I’m sorry Aveline, it’s always difficult to lose a beloved pet, all the more so as you had no forewarning.

So sorry to read about Baz. Our loved pets are a huge part part of our lives.

So sorry Aveline. Same happened for us with one of our dogs. Went into the kitchen in the morning and she was just lying there. Vet says it was a brain tumour. So very upsetting. Rest in the knowledge he was a much loved cat who had a good life with you.

Thank you all for your kind words. I just didn't know what to do with myself today so thought I'd tell you. I knew GNers would understand.

Sorry about Baz. Must have been a shock! Our cat is 18 and needs constant attention.

seacliff Sat 19-Jun-21 19:49:04

Very sad, and such a shock for you, no warning or time to say goodbye, like we normally have. In the past I have hoped that nature would spare me making that final terrible decision, but it never did happen like that. Sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry Aveline.

Shelflife Sat 19-Jun-21 19:25:11

Very sad Aveline, he didn't suffer so that is a small consolation. Our lovely cat passed away in the cattery while we were on holiday. We have another rescue cat now, she is 3 years old and a source of constant joy! Such a shock for you this morning, I am thinking about you . ???

I’m so sorry to hear your sad news, it’s just devastating to lose a pet who has been part of your family. Try to take some solace from the fact that he didn’t suffer. Thinking of you.

I’m so sorry for the loss of Baz. A beautiful cat - your true friend - and you will be shocked at his sudden departure. I know what you mean about a house feeling empty without a beloved pet.
We treat them like one of the family. RIP.

So sorry for the loss of a beautiful cat and so sudden..The only consolation is that he didn't suffer but I know what you mean about the house feeling empty.

Callistemon Sat 19-Jun-21 15:36:24

I'm sorry to hear about Baz, Aveline.

At least it was quick for him and you say he was his usual self earlier.
This happened to one of DD's dogs, fine one minute then they saw him lying down still. The vet thought it had been a heart attack, he was 10.

How sad for you. So sorry.

SueDonim Sat 19-Jun-21 15:26:41

I’m so sorry. flowers

We lost one of our two beautiful Russian Blue rescues this week so I sympathise very much. He was ill for a while and each night over the last week, I hoped that the next morning he would have gone by the time we got up. In the end, I had to call for the vet to come, which was heartbreaking. His brother is now so lonely and keeps looking for him.
