We’ve had three cats during our long marriage, all rescue cats. The last one died some two years ago, and I missed them all, but especially our last during the various lockdowns we’ve had.

What a lovely post, but so sad too.
We lost ours this year. It's hard.

Trold had a happy and long life. I am moved by your message to him . Thinking of you. Enjoy the company of his successor.

Beautiful but heartbreaking. Our pets really do take a piece of our hearts with them when they leave us. We lost our old Lab last June, and I like to think he's happy that we now have a new Lab, almost six months, who is sharing the love he once knew.

You took your beloved cat into your home and into your hearts.
It always hurts when they leave us even though we know they must.
We have had 4 cats during our 40 years together and missed each one terribly when they died. We’ve said “no more” but each time another beautiful feline has found it’s way into our Life.
I really feel for you today grandtante and I read your lament to your companion and friend with a tear in my eye.

We still talk and laugh about our dearly departed cat, he had such a personality and left a huge gap. I was delighted when a photo popped up on FB memories earlier in the week, showing him sitting, precariously but defiantly on top of a pile of ironing, with me beside the ironing board in the background! Sorry for your loss, but remember him through his apprentice.

It is nearly a week since you died, and we are recovering.

I am glad to say the young cat you found and trained as your successor is taking his new duties very seriously indeed. He apologises for not attending your burial. He was so horrified when he saw your dead body that he ran away and hid.

Papa apologises for not going to the vet with us, but both you and I knew he would funk that, didn't we?

He helped dig your grave and filled it in.

I'm not sure how these things work, but I hope you are now reunited with your brother and that your two toy mice I placced in your grave have been transformed into real, eternal mice you can chase around the Garden of Eden.

Did you really tell the youngster that one of his new duties is warming my bed? He does it well, considerately lying precisely where I place my bottom when I lie down.

No mice have been found in the cellar or attics and no tom cats have attempted to move in either.

Miss you! But as there is no time where you are now, only eternity, you won't notice how long it may be before we meet again.

Dear oet-lovers., you don't need to comment. Trold was 14 and enjoyed life until last Sunday, when he wasn't in pain, but where we knew what Monday would bring.
