That's not true Josianne, certainly not in this area. Depends on the cat, and dog, we often re-home with dogs in the family.
Micro chipping is good to identify lost cats that suddenly appear in a new area. They might have got in a delivery van, then jumped out miles from their home. Also sadly for deceased cats, at least their owners know.

We rehome too in the family seacliff but due to lockdowns when everyone wanted a pet, the cat's' rescues changed their policy and you couldn't even get past the email stage if you had a dog. Very daft!
The only real option was to rescue a street cat from Dubai and to fly it in to Heathrow etc. All very organised and caring of the cat's welfare. Said kitten has spent the last year terrorising the household and definitely has the upper hand! grin

Some cats actually don't want to go out. I had a little rescue cat who was terrified to go over the thresh hold into the garden.

Cats should definitely be microchipped! Josianne , not allowing you to have a cat simply because you have a dog is ridiculous!!! All those cats needing someone like you to love them - unreasonable. Trust you have explored every avenue? A small animal rescue centre may be more amenable!

Fully agree. And there are still many abandoned cats and kittens. The CPL still find plenty I think.

The trouble is that the cat rescue centres are silly because they won't let you have a rescue cat or kitten if you have a dog, even a gentle one. Even with 40 years cat and dog owning experience! Grrrr.

Completely disagree with house cats. They should be running hunting and climbing.

Also agree about house cats. Totally against their nature.

I fully agree with microchipping. Sadly for my sixteen year old cat her chip had disappeared and I had to have her rechipped ready for my house move. I couldn't accompany her as it was during the time we had to wait in the vet's car park.

As for house cats, I also think it is cruel.

I thought the principle idea of chipping pets was so that owners couldn't just abandon them at the roadside? I don't think that is such an issue now because you can't get a cat for love nor money.

Can't agree Chardy with the best will in the world cats will wander from their homes. Microchipping will enable them to be returned home. If a cat is killed on the road a chip will allow the owners to be notified. Like BlueBelle I don't like the idea of house cats.
I read that somewhere in Australia cats will be banned from being outside at all.

Well I live in a town and there’s loads wander around the back streets and alleyways I live on a main road and used to have cats they just always used the back entrance
I don’t agree at all with house cats I think it’s cruel and going against their very nature of climbing running and socialising but then I come from an era where a cat choose it’s home there wasn’t vast amounts of money paid for a cat I suppose that makes a difference

The 7am News has just reported that cat-microchipping will be made mandatory (no time-scale was mentioned). As so few cats are seen out and about on the streets in towns, I assume that many don't let their cats out to wander.
If they don't go out, why chip them?
