Dog rescued by a drone with a sausage

Who'd have thought. A Jack Russell whippet cross got stranded on mudflats after slipping her lead. Police, firefighters and coastguards weren't able to get her. They'd used drones and someone had the bright idea of attaching a sausage to a drone in the hope that she would follow the scent. And she did.

Today's good news I think.

Was the sausage cooked?

I just love a good doggy story with a happy ending ??

I have a similar dog. She loves sausage. She's stubborn and won't come in but sausages tempt her. And I often find myself shouting come and get a sausage .... I do wonder what the neighbours think

Callistemon21 Fri 21-Jan-22 20:09:03

Just shout "sausage" and she might come back!

One of ours would run off into the woods but always came back. No wonder he was thinner than me grin

I'd worry more now because of dog thefts.

This story was covered on tonight’s news. It seems the dog is a serial runner. The owner talked about buying a harness because she’d slipped her collar.
No mention of recall training ?

Thanks, Coastpath. It was a very long time ago now* and we’ve never had another dog, but I still have her water bowl in the kitchen, in case her little ghost thinks I’ve forgotten her.
(Also handy for visiting pooches of course!)

*The vet actually came to Do The Deed on 11th September, exactly a year after the Twin Towers disaster. The news was full of nothing else, but all I could think was, ‘The vet’s coming at 3.30…’ Poor old dog was lying on the front lawn in the sun, and feebly wagged her tail when she saw the vet coming. ?

Wonderful story. Saw some of the video on the news. Pleased she’s back safe.

Coastpath Fri 21-Jan-22 09:46:15

Oh Witzend I do feel for you. We love our dogs so much don't we. flowers

Witzend Fri 21-Jan-22 09:17:14

I knew it was time to put her to sleep when our poor old dog couldn’t even be tempted with a bit of sausage. ?

I love hearing about animal rescues and I'm so glad that this went well, thanks to the rescue team and a sausage.grin

Hats off to whoever had the idea of tying a sausage to the drone. Never underestimate the power of a sausage where a dog is concerned. grin

BlueBalou Fri 21-Jan-22 08:53:35

A really heartwarming story, bless her little heart and well done to the rescuers!

sodapop Fri 21-Jan-22 08:42:42

Great story, glad it eventually had a happy conclusion. JRs are such feisty little dogs.

Great story with a happy ending. Thanks for the link Callistemon21. I hope Millie said the same to her rescuers.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 21-Jan-22 07:47:36

I‘ve just caught up Coastpath! Yes you can get even the most intelligent dog to do anything for a sausage or other tasty morsel (very handy)! How very clever of the rescue team, I’m always pleased to see them saving animals.

GrandmaSeaDragon Thu 20-Jan-22 23:26:57

What a great story! Glad Millie’s home safe. Our cocker spaniel would do anything for a sausage, but I hope we never have to employ a drone!

Callistemon21 Thu 20-Jan-22 22:30:49

Lovely story ?
And some very funny posts ?

But that wasn't the end of it!

However, after eating half the sausage she was not caught and escaped into woodland near the A3.
After two further days on the run she was spotted three miles (5km) away near Cosham Fire Station and eventually "came bounding over" to the rescue team.

Brilliant - my little dog would follow food for miles!

Josieann Thu 20-Jan-22 22:09:12

It must have been the Wurst experience for the little dog.

Blondiescot

I've just been reading this - definitely a feel-good story! Only thing which would have made it better would be if it had been a dachshund!

I love this story!

Coastpath Thu 20-Jan-22 21:11:41

Some very funny posts here. Thank you for making me laugh.

Where is Germanshepherdsmum? She needs to see this thread.

Fabulous. A good news story with a dog. What more could we ask for

Josieann Thu 20-Jan-22 20:49:11

Let's hope all drone rescue teams sausage roll out the idea for stranded dogs. Sorry!
