When you think where their noses have been I personally don’t fancy it, or upstairs. If my OH sniffed everyone’s bottom that he met I wouldn’t let him in bed either 😲

Have 2 spaniels and they are not allowed upstairs let alone on the bed. Dogs can't bath every day it's bad for their skin so definitely not sleeping in our bed. We have throws on the sofa as they shed a lot and sleep there at night.
Had one dog in the bedroom on his dog bed as he was lonely when our other dog died and howled all night. But never in our bed

Well I’d say a definite NO but we had a rescue German Shepherd who, on the first New Year we had her, got right into the bed with me because she was absolutely terrified. I didn’t put her out …

No to dog sleeping on beds
No to dogs being upstairs - it’s def bad for their hips.

My beautiful girl (tall staffy cross) but not really heavily overweight slept on my bed from 7 weeks old she was amazing
and learnt her potty training in about 12 weeks never ever soiling inside the house again. Throughout her years with me
her place at night was on the bed. She had a leg operation and had to stay downstairs and literally cried all night in the end I had to bring in a camp bed and stay downstairs with her until her leg healed as all she wanted was me to be near her.

My best fifteen years was spent with my girl who was loyal brilliant companion and I loved her unconditionally, sadly her age caught up with her and due to osteoporosis in legs and just old age I had to accept it was time for our human/doggy goodbye. It has been two weeks now and I am still lost without her although all my memories are the happiest of ever.
I dearly wish she was still here to sleep on my bed.

Current dog sleeps on a blanket beside me. The previous old rescue Labrador didn't and anyway, he couldn't climb stairs poor chap and made himself a space downstairs. The dog before that slept on my bed but had to be slowly persuaded to use a basket beside the bed when I met my current partner as there wasn't room for us all. Personally, I like having a small to medium sized dog on the bottom of my bed, I feel more confident having the windows wide open if there's a dog around. It's worth having a low bed or a ramp as they get older.

Absolutely yes! I love having an animal asleep close to me.

Nagmad2016 Tue 15-Aug-23 15:24:18

No. I don't like dog friendly hotels for this reason too. I love animals but have never allowed my pets in the bedroom.

Two of us. Winter hot water bottles. Three farting, snoring, warm hounds. Retrievers. Bliss!!

Silvergirl Tue 15-Aug-23 15:14:36

Yes, almost. Our dog has her own bed at the bottom of ours, on top of the ottoman, so that she is level but not on the bed. It is only a double bed so there is not enough room. She is a full member of the family and she loves being near us. I feel it would be cruel to stop her. I’m a soft touch, I know.

My kiwi friend tells me in her homeland, the phrase 3 dog winter is used when it’s very cold and throwing a 3rd dog on the bed is needed

Love it!

I knew it was ā€˜a saying’. Did not know of a three dog winter in NZ though..

Would you go and sleep in dog's basket?

Yes I have been known to sit in it on cold days as it’s up against the kitchen radiator. Mine have those very big padded round beds, very comfy !

timetogo2016 Tue 15-Aug-23 14:46:35

NO.

Mamma7 Tue 15-Aug-23 14:44:42

Yes as she is very small, doesn’t shed hair and is very clean but she does sleep on a washable fleece. She’s less trouble than husband!! 🤣

Doodledog

It's a no from me. Our dogs have always slept downstairs.

My daughter's dog sleeps in her bed, and when she stays here I grudgingly let him sleep on top of her bed on a washable throw, so he can feel like he's in with her. I am not at all keen, but it wouldn't be fair to make him sleep downstairs when he's been used to having company overnight. The thought of sleeping next to a dog, with dog breath at one end and worse at the other is deeply unpleasant, and worse - he snores grin

Same here. Jack Russell too and she is on the bed.

Smileless2012 Tue 15-Aug-23 14:36:58

Not something we've ever done but if I was on my own, I'm pretty sure I'd be very tempted.

Freya5 Tue 15-Aug-23 14:32:44

Absolutely yuk. Sorry but there you are.

Would you go and sleep in dog's basket?

If I was small enough . . . 🐶🐶🐶

I share my bed with 3 dogs...they sleep on a throw at the end of the bed although I've occasionally been 'spooned' by my Rottweiler! She'll lie behind me and literally wrap a very large paw around my waist - if I ask "what do you think you're doing?", I can hear her tail going like mad.

Years ago we took over my Mum's Westie who never slept on Mum's bed. She didn't come upstairs until the big storm of the late 80s that hit the south east. I was working away from home but my DH said that the house shook, some of the tiles fell off and the noise was incredible. Hattie started to cry so he allowed her upstairs and on to the bed. When we got a 2nd dog she was quite happy to stay downstairs with him.

Several years later, with an aging Cairn who was blind I encouraged her onto the bed because then I would be aware of her needs during the night.

Over the last few nights we've had tremendous storms and both dogs are petrified. Ruby who is blind and now as a fracture at the top of one leg does come onto the bed. This means that I can calm her by cuddling her. When she gets too close to my face I turn over and settles down against my back.

The cats htat we had, before dogs used to sleep on the bed. It's amzing how much space 2 small creatures can take up.

Yes! I lost one of my beloveds last year, still can't get over it and for most of her life, my bed was hers as was mum's (mum said many a time, she'd get up in the night to go to the loo, come back to find Flo had "rolled over" and was now in her space! Flo was a 38kg Rottweiler X, but a gentle giant! Mum would pick Flos legs up and get back into bed. Flo was also Epileptic and yes, let rip on the beds, but bedding can be washed, we changed to lots of blankets and have a twin tub! Dogs for us are a huge part of our lives.

CaroleAnne Tue 15-Aug-23 13:47:26

Definitely not. Most unhygienic.
I am a dog lover but am a firm believer that they should know their place. Not on beds or furniture.

No sleeping on the bed with mine.

But if I’m raising a youngster and it’s a miserable winter afternoon I will invite them upstairs to play.

Only got a small home so playing upstairs doubles the space.

There are a few upstairs toys and I will hide them around and send to find, I also allow them to have a mad five minutes and then five minutes obedience on the actual double bed, but only if the bedding is going in the washer!
