NO

I do not have a dog but dog sit in other houses, most sleep on the bed with me, I don't mind it in their houses but wouldn't like it in mine as the hair clings to the bedding and some have that dog smell in the soft furnishings.

No, never!

Hellogirl1 Mon 14-Aug-23 20:30:56

I don`t have a dog, but the cat sleeps on my bed regularly, I don`t mind.

Casdon Mon 14-Aug-23 20:33:31

No, my dog never sleeps on the beds - not for want of trying on his part, he’d love to but he knows he isn’t allowed upstairs.

NO

Iam64 Mon 14-Aug-23 20:39:50

It depends on personal choice. My dogs always slept in the kitchen till we extended and made whst was the garage a large utility. That’s now their bedroom. It’s also where they’re fed, get bones/treats when visitors arrive

My feeling is if dogs are never away from their people how can they ever be left if the owners go away or there is an emergency
I’m happy for my spaniel to lie on my bed while I read in the morning but don’t want to share my bed with her a humungous lsb

My lab wasnt allowed upstairs to protect his growing joints - he never tries to go up stairs at home but is happy to negotiate them on walks

Blondiescot Mon 14-Aug-23 20:43:26

Entirely up to the dog owner. Our current Lab will sometimes daunder through and get up on the bed for a while, but he usually does his own thing and sleeps wherever takes his fancy. He does have a proper dog bed, but chooses to store his toys in it rather than sleep in it! Our old Lab, on the other hand, chose to sleep underneath our bed, even when he was getting a bit too old and stiff to squeeze under it.

Another no, never from me!

dogsmother Mon 14-Aug-23 20:52:30

Yes If I was on my own. And yes when we are away.
But not as a general rule.

Peggy has slept on my bed since DH died. She’s a Jack Russell so not large and has her own throw at the bottom. It’s a comfort to know she’s there.

It's a no from me. Our dogs have always slept downstairs.

My daughter's dog sleeps in her bed, and when she stays here I grudgingly let him sleep on top of her bed on a washable throw, so he can feel like he's in with her. I am not at all keen, but it wouldn't be fair to make him sleep downstairs when he's been used to having company overnight. The thought of sleeping next to a dog, with dog breath at one end and worse at the other is deeply unpleasant, and worse - he snores grin

Not really, one of my dogs occasionally jumps on the bed for a few minutes but she makes me feel hot so I push her off. They do have their own daybed in my room.

😮😮 Are you telling me humans don’t fart or snore? šŸ˜‚

Like Merlotgran since being widowed I have allowed my dog to come upstairs and sleep at the bottom of the bed. He isn’t a large dog (Border Terrier), he doesn’t cast much and lies on a throw. It’s reassuring just knowing he is there and he doesn’t cause any problems. It’s personal choice and depends on your circumstances and of course how big your dog is.

No on hygiene and also dogs are pack animals and need a master, sleeping on the masters bed is confusing, they need boundaries.

Georgesgran Mon 14-Aug-23 21:21:15

It’s up to the individual I guess. Our dogs (spaniels) were never allowed upstairs, let alone on the bed, but as far as DD2’s little dogs were concerned - that was a totally different story and they had been allowed to sleep with her from the word go. Now, as soon as I put the lights off and the alarm on, the dogs would be upstairs and on the bed before I’d taken two stairs!
Luckily small dogs, then when the elder died last year, there’s plenty of room for me and the other one. He doesn’t shed and although he starts off on his own throw at the bottom, I usually wake to fine him snuggled against my back.

I had pets when I had my kids at home so dogs and cats slept on the bed all the time. I’ve been animal free for over 20 years but if I had any more it would be NO! I must have got fussier as I’ve aged grin

Peggy’s not confused. She knows her boundaries and is as biddable as any dog can be. The only thing I can’t get her to do is bring me a cup of tea in the morning. šŸ˜‚

Our dog has her own bed next to ours. It’s nice to have her close by and to hear her snoring.

Mollygo Mon 14-Aug-23 21:33:51

No. Though our dog jumps up on the bed if she thinks we’re staying in bed too long. She has her bed on the landing and that’s where she takes her fuzzy monkey to sleep.

I’m afraid that sighthounds assume that beds were invented for them but they tolerate humans joining them. When whippets weren’t catching rabbits for the pot or racing they used to sleep with the children to keep them warm. My Spaniels were never allowed on or in the bed and even my first two whippets slept in a crate in the kitchen because I was working but the latest one is very Velcro. Thankfully whippets don’t shed much and, if they smell I’ve never noticed it. I don’t think I’d allow another breed on the bed.

Well, I've never known one as bad as a French Bulldog on either countgrin.
