I'm so very sorry TwiceAsNice, it breaks your heart even though you know it was the right thing to do.

I have a plaque in my kitchen which says "Cats leave paw print on your heart" and they really do don't they .

Thank you Swampy Amie was only 9 and I only had her for 4 years she’d had a couple of other things wrong before this tumour but always recovered - until she didn’t! It would have been good to have had her for longer but she and I were unlucky and it was not to be

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved cat and I understand your feelings of loss totally. We too helped our lovely cat over the rainbow bridge a little over three weeks ago and I'm sat here feeling your loss entirely and having a little cry for you. Our lovely cat was 20 years old and had been steadily aging but still enjoying life and had been struggling with walking which we figured could be her claws being too long as she was no longer very active. So a quick visit to the vet who checked her over and clipped her claws. He too discovered an abdominal mass but gave her pain relief and we brought her home. She was still eating well and enjoying fresh chicken treats but two days later it was obvious to us that time with us had come to an end and she went over the rainbow bridge peacefully and so kindly by our vet.
We brought her home and she now lies under one of her favourite bushes. My daughter had a little cat shaped plaque made for us which made me cry all over again. It says 'Not all angels have wings, some have whiskers!'
Sadly in our wider family there have been other losses, both much loved dogs and we are all grieving our losses.

So sorry, it is devastating isn't it. I once had to take a strange cat to the vet and he put her to sleep as she was very ill. (long story). That was bad enough, so much worse when it's a beloved pet, so my heart goes out to you.

I’m so very sorry to hear about your dear Amie. You did the right thing for her and she fell asleep on your lap, knowing she was loved. I have been through this with much loved cats and dogs so many times and I know the awful emptiness you are feeling now. In time I hope you will invite another cat into your heart, part of which will always belong to Amie but our hearts have endless capacity to love.

Thank you all so much your words mean so much to me. I know I did the best thing for her , the vet wasn’t happy for me to bring her home for even an extra night in case the fluid shifted and meant she couldn’t breathe but it’s so hard to take in with less than 24 hours warning but it’s so nice to know you all think I did the right thing and understand how I feel so well.

Its so hard, but try to remember the happy times and the love.

I'm so very sorry for your loss and I understand exactly how you are feeling 😞. My dear old cat of 22 years had to be helped over Rainbow Bridge 🌈 four weeks ago. I haven't had a day yet where I've not cried but I know I did, just as you did, the very last kindness I could for him. I will offer a loving home to another rescue cat 🐈 but I'm not ready yet - everyone different with this decision aren't they? But please know you did the right thing and loved your to the very end ❤️

Apologies for stating the obvious, this sadness is the price we pay for the special relationship we shared with every cat and dog we've loved, who is no longer with us ❤

Such a sad time for you. Our pets, our cats really matter. You've had such a shock as it all happened so quickly. You'll never forget her and you did your absolute best for her.
No other cat can replace her but will be its own wee character for you to get to know and love.

Like you MayBee I still berate myself for the one time when I wasn’t with one of my dogs at the end , so, TwiceAsNice take some comfort from the fact that your beloved cat was with you as she passed.

I’m sorry I couldn’t reply to this yesterday; I got myself accidentally logged out of my iPad. Can I just say I know exactly how you feel. It must have come as such a shock to you. It will, in the future, be a comfort to you knowing that she died in your arms; I still berate myself for the one time when I wasn’t with one of my dogs at the end. The pain you’re feeling now will lesson over time, but that doesn’t help with what you’re feeling now. I’ve cried myself dry when I’ve lost my dogs or cats. So all I can do is send you a virtual hug and say I understand how you feel and how terribly you must miss her… x

Thank you Sue it’s a hard decision isn’t it? I had so much pleasure from Amie and a little part of me would have another in time but she was so much just my cat and so precious I’m not sure a new one would measure up

I understand completely 'our' cat is really my cat, she responds very well to me but often ignores my DH! He loves her despite that. Cats are a huge part of our lives our relationship with them is very special. Such a shock for you - so unexpected but the 🌞 will shine again . I am up late tonight as it is quite mild and my lovey Millie is refusing to come in!! I like her inside at night, will give her another 10 minutes before I go to bed. I prefer her in at night so I know she is safe, but she has got the better of me this evening!! If you can't sleep at least try to relax knowing you will eventually begin to feel better. Thinking of you.

I’m so sorry. We lost the second of our two cats last year and it is indeed heartbreaking. We haven’t decided yet whether we’ll have another one.

Thank you so much Shelflife you are so kind! It doesn’t seem real yet as it was less than 24 hours from thinking she was a bit unwell to her being frighteningly ill. I’ll think about what you’ve said, I haven’t ruled out having another cat but she was my princess and totally my cat and I can’t think of it yet, but thank you , you have helped me. I can’t sleep as she always slept on my bed at night.

TwiceAsNice, I am so very sorry to know you have had to have your precious cat put to sleep - it is devastating! A few years ago my lovely cat was put to sleep, such a hard decision. People advised me to wait before I even thought of having another. However within two weeks I adopted another cat from an RSPCA shelter. She is a very different character to my previous cat, was very nervy and ran off whenever I approached her. Took a very long but she is now a real lap cat and we love her dearly. Your cat died peacefully on your lap and as you say it was the correct decision. Of course this only happened today so your emotions are very raw - but you will get there! and who knows you may decide to have another cat who will bring you so much companionship and love. Be kind to yourself , sleep well tonight. 💐💐💐💐
