Heartbroken...

Last Monday it was time to let my beautiful dog go...she was only ten but very poorly and it was absolutely the right thing to do for her, the last act of love.
I was utterly heartbroken.
One of the things that helped was my two other dogs and although not quite themselves, they were managing well.
Yesterday morning, the one closest to my big girl that died on Monday collapsed and died. The Vet thinks heart attack.
I'm numb... absolutely bereft.
Both were rescued from pretty appalling situations and loved so much - even writing the words is making me cry.

I think only those who have lost a dog can appreciate the depth of anguish that one feels. Losing two must be devastating, I do sympathise with you so much.

So so sorry to read your terrible news, my heart goes out to you. We love our pets so much, if it’s any help they know how loved they were.

So very sorry for your loss. It's most seven years since I lost my beloved dog. Still miss and think about him every day.

So sad to hear this.. You gave them unconditional love and they gave it back to you ten fold.
So sorry for your loss nothing anyone can say can make you feel better at the moment but we all understand.

So very sorry to hear of this tragic double loss for you Dee1012. I hope that in time the many happy memories you have will comfort you. I know what it is to lose a dearly loved dog and to lose two at almost the same time must feel almost unbearable. flowers

My nephew was devastated when his cat died, as was his flatmate. Two big husky males in tears. He said he would never get another cat but one of his mates turned up with a ginger kitten in a box and he could not resist it. Now a fully grown cat of 6 years and ruling the roost as cats do.

Oh my dear, my heart goes out to you. You did a wonderful thing by rescuing your dogs and you gave them the best life they could have ever wished for. Their lives were filled with love from the day you adopted them and they absolutely knew it. Sending you love and strength.

Thank you all for your kindness... I've been very lucky to have the privilege of sharing my life with wonderful dog's and they have all given me so much more than I gave to them.
I'm going to focus on my remaining "little man" and hopefully in time, I'll find another little soul who needs a home.

So sorry to hear your news, we grow to love our dogs so much and it is very hard when we lose them. We lost our lovely 13 year old labrador in October and I still miss her welcome when I open the front door. You gave your rescue dogs the best life ever and as you say, hopefully you will find another rescue to keep your little man company. thanks

It is very hard when we lose a pet. It will still be very raw. Give yourself time and i hope you will be able to remember what a wonderful life you gave to your dogs. It is so hard on the dogs that are left. Sad times - im sorry.

Ive only yesterday had my vet neighbour come to put my 15year old dog to sleep. She could not get up onto her feet nor rearrange herself to get comfortable. It was the kindest thing to do i know but it still hurts like hell. My other dogs were there when the procedure happened. It was lovely and calm a perfect way to go. Sedation by tiny injection first so my dog was snoring before receiving the main injection. Humans and dogs are definitely grieving but it will ease.

Oh Dee, I cannot begin to imagine how much that double loss hurts. Losing our elderly dog in November was bad enough. May you be comforted by the knowledge that you gave them both the best life possible. Sending you a hug 🤗

On wednesday my beloved cavapoo Carly died suddenly in the kitchen after becoming ill overnight with a suspected flare up of pancreatitis. She was only 7 and had been ill before christmas but i completely changed her diet and she had bounced back. I live alone have lovinf family and friends but she was my delightful companion. I have been quite ill and am awaiting knee replacements. Just bereft. Havent been able to cry. Just numb.

I am so sorry. I understand completely as my beloved cat Phoebe had bladder cancer and had to be put to sleep on the 1st April. For those of us who live alone, our pet is a "therapy pet" and the house is empty without them. I cried and cried.

The homeopathic remedy Ignatia works very well for grief. Nothing can take those emotions away but Ignatia took "the sting" out of them for me. Ignatia 1M strength works best and you can order it from Galen Homeopathics in Dorset or Helios in London.

My heart goes out to you in your sadness and loss. flowers

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. It's heartbreaking. I've been in a similar situation too and even after quite a long time now I have a little weep every so often. I really feel for you but it does ease eventually

So sorry to hear this. I felt so unhappy when I lost my little girl. She was only 12 & I thought, hoped, she had many more years. It was not to be as she developed the same type of tumour that took her Mum from us a few years ago. I found an older boy who needed a home so even though I said no more 9 cats had been enough I now have a big hairy beautiful boy who I do love very much! I still talk to my girl & wish she could come back so that I could have the two of them! Losing them is the hardest & worst part of living with & loving cats, dogs or other pets! Just try to remember the good times with them & the silly things that they did to make you smile & hug them!

I am so sorry, losing two beloved pets in such a short time must be devastating. I don’t have a dog of my own as I couldn’t exercise one enough due to my disability. My DD does have a lovely 3 year old mixed breed girl and she is such a joy…..I cannot imagine her not being around 💐

I am so sorry, sending warm virtual hugs

We previously had two dogs aged 16 and 13. The older dog was taken ill quite suddenly and we had to have her put to sleep. The vet suspected a brain haemorrhage.

Our remaining dog was never the same after the pal had died. She had been with her from being a puppy. She died three months later. I am sure she died of a broken heart.

We now have another older dog - age 13 - who has heart failure. We have been to the vet with her this week and have to go back on Friday. She is not eating and is sleeping all the time. She seems calm and not in pain. I am conflicted about having her put to sleep or letting her fade away at home. I don't want her to suffer and don't know what to do.

My two cats, one 19 and 11 months, died at home on the day we were due to visit the vet, and his brother, just 20 (same litter) was put to sleep yesterday when the vet discovered he had a tumour in his stomach.
Like your dog PinkCosmos he was sleeping most of the time but eating nothing and didn't seem to be in pain. It was a shock but we followed the vet's advice and had him put to sleep immediately, because he wouldn't recover; he was there with a vet he trusted, not having to make another journey in the dreaded cat basket, and died very peacefully.

Great sympathy for you, it is a horrible decision to make.
