Grooming Dogs

I have a grooming glove, I think they are great, but your pup will still have to get used to it. I’d suggest very short uses initially, alternating between a strike from your hand then the glove, with a treat at the end. Good luck

I have a tip for applying spot-on flea or worm treatment. Warm it up in your pocket for a while, then use while stroking the animal so that they are unaware. I used to warm them in my bra until the day I went for a routine mammogram and had the imprint of a flea pipette on my breast!

I use a Furminator comb. It’s very good at removing loose hair, much better than a brush.

I had an aunt who had a puppy that hated being groomed, so we made the very short to start with grooming session fun by playing with a toy, then finishing off with a treat. It worked, but you need patience and time.

Our pup has started to wear a seresto flea collar instead of using other flea treatments. He doesn’t notice it. Apparently it will remain active for 8 months. As the dog is growing it will need to be adjusted from time to time.

Do you use a licky mat at all? Our two have theirs daily and love them.
I know some people stick them to tiles whilst bathing or grooming their dog if it is a stressful activity. Worth a try.

We recently adopted an 18-month-old Great Pyrenees. She is a wonderful, sweet dog.
She had an ear infection and wouldn't let the vet check her ears or trim her nails. They prescribed a sedative for her visit the next day. We haven't tried bathing her yet or taking her to a groomer.
Do any of you have experience with this breed? We have had two lessons with a dog trainer to help with car sickness and to get her to come back if she gets loose. This breed likes to roam and that may be why she had been a stray.
