I love cows

I don't know whether it is in the countryside code or kennel club guidance but it says not to enter a field of cows before working out how you would get out if they did approach you. Dogs should be on a short lead within the field but to let them go if cattle behave aggressively.

I think all farm animals are clever really. When you see how they behave with their young, it is enough to put you off eating meat really.

Yes but be cautious. Too many people, even farmers who handle livestock, have been killed or injured and not all had calves. Respect their space.

Goats are hilarious, aren’t they? Boing boing boing! grin

No-one for goats?
They are real characters!

Don’t want to put a damper on what is a lovely thread, but I saw the documentary COW a couple of years ago and I’m still upset by it. I’m not vegan, not even veggie although I try not to eat much meat. A farmer friend once told me that cows are more intelligent than horses; not sure how true that is. The field at the end of my partners garden has Aberdeen Angus cattle. I watch the calves and have a little chat with them when they come up to me. There were some really young ones this year and I watch them playing together; they seem to have special friendships. When they eventually remove the calves their mothers will call to them for many hours. It’s heartbreaking but I feel that beef cattle actually have a better life, albeit shorter in the case of the males, than dairy cattle, as the calves stay with their mumsMy partner saw a cow chase away a fox that walked across the field one day. I reckon that’s why cattle seem to run towards people with dogs? The field is part of a pilgrim route which cuts right across the middle of the field which worries me as it is full of cows, calves and sometimes a bull; I would never walk across it given that you’re walking between the cows and their calves!

I love sheep, too. I had a big collection of sheep-related things at one time because once people cottoned on to it, they gave me sheep things for every birthday and Christmas. Mugs, table mats, umbrellas, ornaments, socks, soaps, you name it.

I like most animals, really. I love cows’ big eyes, and the noses on horses. My GC had pony rides at a fete last weekend and the ponies were such patient souls. I stroked the nose of one of them and he shut his eyes in bliss. ❤️

I love all farm animals/birds!

I know exactly what you're saying!

Cows are soooo beautiful and very intelligent.

When driving past farms with cows we always stop, get out the car and go over to talk to them. My husband actually sings to them and I tell them jokes!

''Dear cows, did you know your uncle was knighted? He was named Sir Loin!''

''It's thick with snow and very cold. You should go inside as it's friesian out here!''....

They actually laugh in there own way although a couple walked off in a huff!

I love their beautiful brown eyes and want to kissy their noses!

I was raised with chickens, lots of them. I even shared their night roost hut when we took in bed & breakfast guests and my bedroom was needed.

Back in the dim and distant past we had a dairy herd, in those days every village had a couple of dairy herds. Almost all gone now herds are fewer but larger and outside the villages.
You develop a respect for cows or any other cattle, most are docile, a few are bad tempered, when they have calves you need to be cautious with all of them

That was with dairy cows that are handled everyday, I had enough close encounters that I did not keep beef cows who don’t have a good reputation.

I was brought up with 2 guernsey house cows when I was little, they were lovely.. then progressed to horses, my absolute favourite animals

I love cows too. Particularly Dexters, they are such good natured and hardy little souls.

I feel the same about sheep. I love them, especially the herdwicks. I discovered that some of my ancestors were sheep farmers in the Lake District of England , maybe it goes through your blood. I don’t like eating lamb, though I am not strict about it.

Yes, sheep for me too.
Then I found out my ancestors were shepherds for centuries until my grandfather, although two of his brothers were shepherds or estate managers.

I love them as well, and they have the most beautiful faces…

I visited a school farm when I was young and made friends with one particular cow. I'd known her since she was a youngster. I was allowed to name her and when I called her she used to come over to the fence for a fondle and 'chat'. It was lovely.

Many years ago my husband and I were visiting an area of the UK and it was a warm day. He went off for a walk and I lay beside the car for a little sleep. When I woke up I had a small herd of cattle looking down at me. I talked to them for a bit and they ambled off and I was able to get up. It was another lovely experience.

When i was a child, my mum had dreams of what her children would do as adults, accountants, politicians, doctors, solicitors and then me: she said I was suitable as a Sheepherder. What? I was perplexed and embarrassed. Now. I sèe, she was probably right.

My uncle had over 250 steer and after spending my summers with them I just love them. I choose not to eat their kind now but don't mind if others do. Does anyone else love these creatures?
