I tried a Trixie boot on Winnie and she wouldn’t walk with it on ( annoyingly I’ve lost the receipt so can’t take it back; it hasn’t been worn). My friend is going to let me try her dogs really expensive boot ( he had to wear them all the time because if an autoimmune problem). I try to take her on sighthound walks to meet other dogs and then she has a bad paw. Her siblings all seem to live with other dogs, do lure coursing or have friends to meet up with. She only has us and then she can’t even go on walks. I feel like an awful dog mum sad

I totally get where you’re coming from! I’ve got a border collie who loves to run around, and she got a thorn stuck in her paw after a hike last month. I felt awful for not checking her feet before we left. It seemed like such a fun day, but when we got home, I noticed she was limping and had to spend the evening cleaning her paw and applying ointment. Thankfully, she was back to her energetic self in no time.

Just a few weeks later, though, she was playing at the park, and one of her dog pals accidentally stepped on her paw! I panicked and took her to the vet, thinking it might be serious, but it turned out to be just a little bruise. I’m considering getting her some protective booties for future adventures.

It makes sense that sand would rub between the toes. She has much less hair between the toes that get sore: not sure if that’s cause or effect. Thankfully she does have life insurance with PetPlan but by the way it goes up every year I dread to think how much it will be costing when she’s really old!

Bandit seemed to have more flair ups when we took him to tge beach.

Towards the end of his life, he did have a particularly bad flair up and the vet removed four. They didn't return. It wasn't a difficult op but god knows how much they would charge these days. I am going back over 25 years.

Good luck with the cream.

Thanks. It is one of the things I saw online and was considering sending away for. I’ll get some. Am currently putting Stinky Stuff on it. Was there anything that triggered it in your dog?

Our very first dog, a Jack Russell suffered with these cysts on each of his paws.
His were interdigital cysts, l used something called Furuncle cream. It's a natural remedy which really helped when he had a flair up. You can get it online.
I hope your boy feels better soon.

Earlier this year my whippet had a nail bed infection. She was on antibiotics for ages and it eventually cleared up. Then, last week we took her on the great global greyhound walk and a day or so later found that the paw was bleeding. Same foot but this time just between the toes. Felt awful that it might have been the walk that caused it. I’m not very mobile these days and don’t usually manage three miles so it was a much longer walk than usual. The nail bed infection was after a longer walk than usual, again with one of our dog walking groups; almost identical scenario. She’s been walking in the beach for three weeks before the walk and was fine ( I check her feet most days). So I’m not sure if it’s a combination of beach walking and then cross country walking. I’ve rested her, bathed it and put various creams on it and will take her to the vets if it doesn’t improve. I can’t see her taking to boots. I’d never heard of interdigital cysts but she does get little follicular cysts on other parts of her body which is why I’m thinking that this could be connected. Wondered if anyone had any experience of them. When you’ve had dogs for decades you think you’ve learned about most problems and then it’s new dog, new set of problems. And we wrap this one up in cotton wool!
