Earlier this year my whippet had a nail bed infection. She was on antibiotics for ages and it eventually cleared up. Then, last week we took her on the great global greyhound walk and a day or so later found that the paw was bleeding. Same foot but this time just between the toes. Felt awful that it might have been the walk that caused it. I’m not very mobile these days and don’t usually manage three miles so it was a much longer walk than usual. The nail bed infection was after a longer walk than usual, again with one of our dog walking groups; almost identical scenario. She’s been walking in the beach for three weeks before the walk and was fine ( I check her feet most days). So I’m not sure if it’s a combination of beach walking and then cross country walking. I’ve rested her, bathed it and put various creams on it and will take her to the vets if it doesn’t improve. I can’t see her taking to boots. I’d never heard of interdigital cysts but she does get little follicular cysts on other parts of her body which is why I’m thinking that this could be connected. Wondered if anyone had any experience of them. When you’ve had dogs for decades you think you’ve learned about most problems and then it’s new dog, new set of problems. And we wrap this one up in cotton wool!
