Does anyone use a nail grinder to trim dog's nails?

I haven't used one .
I used to cut the claws of my four dogs regularly without a problem .
I'd also express their anal glands before shampooing .
I'd keep a little bag of treats at hand to distract them .
It's just a matter of confidence .

There’s a Facebook page called Nail maintenance for dogs which has lots of advice.

I have a Whippet and it’s important to keep their nails short. They don’t have the weight for walking to get them shorter and with having such long slender paws it can cause problems if the claws are long. Unfortunately they are notoriously bad at letting people touch their feet. And Winnie is black so I can't see the quick so I can’t cut them. I’ve got two dremels. One that’s quite noisy but does take more off and a Pecute one which is very quiet and she’s much happier with that one. Because neither of them take much off we have to use them a lot. I used to muzzle her. Not that she would bite me but, if I accidentally reached the quick the pain could make her snap. But I don’t use it now as she’s got used to the routine. She always has a treat of chicken afterwards. I took my last Whippet to the vets to get her nails trimmed and they couldn’t do it. Dog groomers are usually better at it than vets in my experience. All of my dogs have hated going to the vets!

I think this might be a traumatic for your dog especially if you have no experience of doing this. A vet will cut your dogs nails. A far better experience for your dog.

Example attached. Do they work and would you recommend?

My labrador's nails are getting a bit long as DH isn't walking him as far as I do (I'm recovering from surgery so unable to take him out)
