Problem with Vet Visit

Question: Do you brush her teeth daily ?

She may require a dental check on a cavity or rotten tooth ?

Sounds to me that this is poor clientel service for sure.

I have a three year old French Bulldog and we brush his teeth every morning. Another point is we only feed him Organic Dogfood.

We feed him Edgar and Cooper Salmon with rice, pumpkin, beetroot, apple and berries.

He also gets a topper of Greek Yogurt Natural with a tablespoon of Tinned Pumpkin or steamed green beans or steamed carrots or steamed butternut squash ..

I would definitely find a Vet which had dental experience.

Dogs of all breeds tend to have bad breath .. As people do as well if they do not have good dental hygiene ..

A probiodic vitamin supplement is a game changer and I highly suggest this route as well.

Our Frenchie is very cooperative as he is only three years old and is accustomed to his morning "spa routine" of mask cleansing, paws and toes balm, his facial area - wrinkle cleanser, his tail pocket and genital area and his teeth.

He actually enjoys the spa treatments and is very amicable.

Speak to a few other Vets for pricing - dental check up and xrays to see what is causing this ..

Thanks to you all, My Terrier is now feeling very well and is barking , jumping, carrying his toys, and growling and everything as normal. He is back to his Pedigree Chum pouches and takes his antibiotic tab inside a lump of Seriously Strong cheese spread. His first real meal was mackerel in tomato sauce. hand fed.

The remaing problem is if he had cancer in the power jew and needs to have a bit of bone removed, how can he get painkiller tablet when his mother is too sore for him to have it forced open. I had a word with the nurse and she said there is no alternative such as an injection.
I can't believe there is no injectable pain killer suited to an older dog after oral surgery. The nurse told me vets don't use opiods!

I apologise for needing still more advice from you all.

Excuse me. If after the biopsy my dog needs to have a piece of cancerous lower jaw removed would it be possible to go to another vet practice for this and would the present vet forward all the details ?

They'd probably want to do another assessment. I do use two vets who send information to each other but that's because she always seems to get ill when I'm staying at my partners. It might be worth seeing if there is another local vet who specialises in such operations.

Caleo There must be something a vet could give an animal for pain relief, other than tablets. I'd look for a better vet if it were me. Yes, the present vet would be required to forward your dog's medical history.

As far as painkillers go dogs can have calpol with vet instruction and correct one. They can have liquid antiinflammatories such loxicom - my old dogs had this for years. The vet nurse you spoke to sounds like a student nurse. My dogs have also had long lasting painkilling injections over the years. Fingers cross for get good news.

My dogs are aged 6 and 4.
They have a small raw marrow bone once or twice a week. I stay in the area to make sure no splinters etc after half hour the bones are removed. For treats they have dried fish skins, lambs feet or a bonio
Both just had their six month vet check / vet very pleased with health and teeth
I’ve often felt guilty for not using a tooth brush but our method is working

I was told that dog toothpaste contains an enzyme so, even if you don’t actually brush their teeth just smearing some in their mouth will help to keep their teeth plaque free. I usually brush* Winnie’s teeth last thing at night and remove her water so the toothpaste remains in her mouth while she’s sleeping
*I put some on her toothbrush and say let’s brush toothies; she then jumps on the sofa because she loves the taste of it and she just licks it off the toothbrush: I do try to do a bit of brushing though, especially at the back of her mouth.

You can get an oral suspension of Metacam which can be given by oral dispensing syringe. Which bit of the jaw is being removed?

My old cat (16) has just had 4 teeth removed, she was given liquid pain relief and liquid steriods,its still a battle she won't take it!
The liquid steriods were three times more expensive than the tablets though.

I just heard from the vet that my dear dog has inoperable cancer in his jaw and has 2-3 months left before he needs to be put down. The terminal symptoms will be obvious .

I will get the vet out to his own home to do it when the time comes and in the meanwhile give my dear wee friend the best life he can have.

I am too old to get another dog. I was fortunate to get him when I did.

A very sad time for you. Spoil your dear old pal but don't prolong his pain and suffering. I was in your position this time last year. We let him go as it was the kindest thing for him if not for ourselves.

Oh Caleo, I’m so sorry. But I know you’ll be strong for him and make what time he has left good. Dogs live for today and get such pleasure from the smallest things ( it’s one reason why I love them so much). We’re all be here for you over the next few weeks/months and understand what you’re feeling at the moment. Can I send you a virtual hug x
