Giant Schnauzer wins Westminster show in NY

Can't abide de-barking, either - and as for pushing in the noses of certain breeds until they're almost certain to have breathing difficulties.... How on earth can these people seriously describe themselves as animal-lovers? (Off now to cool down my boiling blood.)

We have had a few miniature Schnauzers - fabulous dogs.

My daughter has a mini. Poor thing lives on fresh air and still puts weight on (I know how she feels). From what I’ve heard, giants and minis have sweet dispositions but the medium sized ones ( which you don’t see as much) aren’t as nice. I have to admit that I used to have cocker spaniels and there is a case to be made for docking tails as they can grow very long and spindly and can get damaged especially as they wag them constantly( my whippet has an incredibly long tail and is always cracking it on furniture when she shakes and my first whippet did actually have to have part of her tail removed after an accident). But there is absolutely no reason to crop a dogs ears. Why people think it looks good is beyond me.

We were on holiday with friends in Colorado, and were invited to dinner with some of their neighbours. Cat jumped on my lap and I then realised, with horror, that it had been de-clawed. I just couldn't hide my surprise (tried to hide my disgust, but not sure I did) - and they thought I was nuts for being upset about it.

'well, she said, they scratch the furniture if you don't- it is perfectly OK to do so'. I couldn't wait to get out and back to our friends' chalet, with their wondeful malamutes.

I’ve pointed this out on every Facebook page that pops up about this. It’s barbaric. I even squirm when I see Scooby Doo cartoons when I see his cropped ears.

Yes, I agree, absolutely no need to dog tails or clip ears.
