Just wondering? I don’t.

TiggyW Sat 01-Mar-25 18:04:31

I don’t mind small, quiet dogs, but I don’t trust any dog really. They’ve all got teeth and claws.😳 I’ve no desire to be responsible for a dog - they’re too expensive and they make too much mess (not to mention the smell!).
I find dog owners annoying when they talk about them incessantly! I’m always amazed at the stuff that’s available now for dogs in the shops! Talk about pampered pets!
If I ever had a pet it would be a cat, but that would only happen if I felt lonely.

Dd1 once had a male university friend home to stay for a couple of days. Apparently he didn’t like dogs, so on the way home (she picked him up from the station) she told him, ‘You’ll have to pretend to like our dog, or my Mum’ll hate you.’ 😂

Yes, I like some dogs. I particularly like the Bearded Collies, which we had for many years.

I love dogs, but have no desire for one of my own!

I'm allergic to dogs so can't go near them but don't dislike them, but I think it's the attitudes of dog owners I don't like - seems you are a bad person if you don't like dogs and aren't entirely accepting of them being allowed everywhere

Dog lover. Lost ours 3 weeks ago and we are heartbroken. The house is so empty.

Fully agree with those who mention bad dog owners. Dogs can't clear up their own mess it's the owners responsibility to do it.

They are OK, but I wouldn't have one.

I LOVE dogs!!!

Skydancer Sat 01-Mar-25 17:27:26

I started this thread genuinely interested because it seemed to me that everyone loves dogs as they are everywhere. I’m pleased to hear that many people feel as I do (not liking them).

If only humans had the heart of dogs, we’d be so much better off.
Dogs over people any day for me.

Yes, same here. And reading this thread only confirms that.

I like dogs.

I have 2 cats though because life style meant dogs weren’t possible.

I too am allergic to dogs (and cats, rabbits and horses) and if we go to visit our son I have to start taking antihistamines for 12 hrs. ,or so, beforehand. Otherwise I quite like dogs but I do think our society has become over fixated with them . I don’t like them in eating places or hotel bedrooms and I really do object to having to step into the gutter to allow a dog and its entitled owner march down the pavement. Many older people are very wary passing a dog despite its being on a lead because
they fear for their balance and even the friendliest dog will lunge toward them for a bit of a sniff . Those extending leads are particularly dangerous .

Love them. Don't have one at moment but had large dogs for 30years plus. Kept me healthy walking for miles and met some lovely people. One now a close friend. I was a responsible owner kept them on leads where appropriate, picked up poop after them , and were fully trained. Miss each one of them still. Total unconditional love and so funny most of time.

Grammi - yes I am involved in dog rescue

Suzey Sat 01-Mar-25 17:01:25

Cant stand them and they seem to be everywhere!

Foxyferret Sat 01-Mar-25 16:56:16

I’ve got 5 Labradors so I think that answers the question. Had many labs over the years. I always go out with a roll of doggy bags and I take them home with me, not throw them in the trees.

Grammi Sat 01-Mar-25 16:51:45

Anyone else here a part of dog rescue?

Just wondering…who likes cats ?

I love cats. I’ve had them most of my life, since I was eight. The retirement flat where I live now isn’t suitable for cats, and in any case a cat would probably outlive me. Most of my cats lived for 18-19 years. I do miss them!

My pet hate .......owners who let their dogs jumped up on you and say 'it's just saying hello'. No - I don't want filthy paws or dog slabbed on my clean clothes.

StoneofDestiny Sat 01-Mar-25 16:34:24

Rather not be around dogs. Today a rather nice walk in a National Trust garden was spoiled by dogs. One incessantly barking in the cafe, one on a stretchy lead causing other visitors to try and negotiate round it and to cap it all, dog poo in the car park.
Our dog laws are too lax. Dogs need to be licensed at a high enough rate to pay for the cost of dog bins and dog wardens, owners need to be fined if dogs are off lead in public places and it needs to be a substantial fine if dog owners are reported for not picking up their animals' mess. There are enough cameras and ring door bells around now for owners to be spotted. So many dogs of local social media sites are being reported as having 'run off' 'found wandering' or similar.......then people wonder where the dog mess is coming from!
As for people calling dogs 'their children' - seriously.

Love dogs. Had golden retrievers and flatcoated retrievers most of my life. Our last dog was a Heinz 57 rescue dog from Dogs Trust. She came with a few traumas behind her but with time and patience became the most loyal and loving dog we had ever had. She lived to be 14 years old and as we were then almost 70 we weren't sure we should take on a new dog. As it turns out (thanks to good health) we would have been able to manage a new dog, but now, in our 80s we are glad not to have any extra responsibilities and happy to stroke other people's dogs

Just wondering…who likes cats ?

I love cats. Had several (all rescue/strays) over the past 44 years. The current one has been here since September (stray) and has FIV but is very well cared-for and pampered.

Yes! The three we have had over a 35 year period have enriched our lives beyond belief. However, they were all trained well and could behave in any social setting and were loved by many!
