Just wondering? I don’t.

No, not particularly. I get really annoyed that half the population seems to have a dog since Covid and many of those dogs spend the days by themselves barking for hours on end. I also worry about people walking around with huge dogs that they obviously can’t control. Controls over owning dogs need to be far more stringent.

I love all dogs. They are lovely and such dear souls. We have a Springer Spaniel and he’s great company and lots of fun.

Like people I do like some dogs and not others. I certainly don’t care for the unruly ones. My eldest DD has one and although I was against her getting one because it would inevitably fall to her to look after him, and in spite of the children saying they would always walk him of course they don’t. I unexpectedly love him and we have him to stay when they go on holiday. He is so easy because he’s not one bit interested in other dogs and won’t leave our side when we walk him. But…..I really am not keen on picking up poo, which I always do, and their personal habits like rolling in fox mess or the like, or sniffing other dog’s bottoms, or cleaning them up when muddy. OTOH they are wonderful loyal companions who are always delighted to see you and I fully understand the bond between a dog and its owner, just don’t want to have the responsibility myself. It’s another mouth to feed and don’t even get me started on the vet bills.

I love them. I am scared of some of them. I have had 5 dogs and loved them with all my heart.

It is not that I don’t like dogs it is negative side of having one.
Having to take them out even in the rain. Not able to take long holidays an and putting them in kennels if one goes off abroad for a short period. Although some people I expect take their dog with them for dhort breaks.

Also, when we were searching for our house we didn’t go to any house where the owners had dog as dog smell gets everywhere and difficult to get rid of.
I do buy bits to give some dogs that pass mainly the small ones.

Youcantchoosethem Sat 01-Mar-25 15:41:33

I have two so yes like them!

gransruleok Sat 01-Mar-25 15:36:11

I don’t like either end of a dog, but I don’t mind the middle bit. I, like others, loathe dogs that are allowed to jump up and slobber over me. Disgusting. Owners to blame. Or dogs that sniff up my legs, ugh.

chrissie13 Sat 01-Mar-25 15:11:24

No, I was attacked by one when I was a teenager, and they scare me. All except the very tiny ones.

chickkygran Sat 01-Mar-25 15:10:46

No

I think there are too many over indulged pampered pooches as I call them. Some are replacements for childless couples and so are treated just like babies.
It’s just plain wrong.
Working dogs are ok as they are purposeful and useful.

Had a lovely Labrador for many years at my husband’s bequest, but after he died I didn’t want another one,
They need a lot of time and money spent on them.

Then you get the other end of the spectrum .
Owners who shouldn’t have them and neglect etc.

So, on the whole. I’m not a lover of dogs in general.

That sounds like heaven to me, DaisyL. Labs are the best dogs ever.

DaisyL Sat 01-Mar-25 14:49:33

I have four working Labradors - I spend all winter working on shoots with them (I am in my 80s) and it is so good for me - and the dogs - in every way. Keeps me active and gives me good company. There will be lots of disapproval about this I am sure but I am a country person and eating game is far preferable than eating a chicken that has had a wretched and short life. My dogs are well behaved and if I walk them in a local forest I get them to come back and sit at heel beside me if people without a dog come past. Training them takes place in the summer for a young dogs - again this can be social and fun. My dogs are happy, healthy and very friendly - but they know their place! Don't know how I would have coped without them after my husband died.

Impersonally do not and have never had ANY time for digs or dog people

4allweknow Sat 01-Mar-25 14:44:57

I like dogs. Had some over 40 years but when last one died decision made not to have another one. I do enjoy looking after friend's fog when she is on holiday or just needing some "me" time from looking after het 100 year old Mum and her dog. Owners though can leave a lot to be desired. Just like not being bothered to put effort into raising children these days they do the same with pets and don't have them trained properly.

No I don't like dogs but I have a son that has three and my daughter has one who I'm on my way tomorrow to dog sit while they are away 🤦

Frenchgalinspain Sat 01-Mar-25 14:33:15

We have 1 French Bull Dog of three years old and 2 Birman Kit Kats, both also 3 years old. It is quite a phenomenal triology and they all love each other.

All were adopted by us. A dear friend of my husband lost his dad, the original owner of the 2 Birman and asked if we could provide a forever home for them.

Our Frenchie was one of our twin daughters, however, when she changed her career position, which requires alot of travel, she and her husband asked if we could take Emmet Edmond .. That was a year ago July 2024.

So, all is well.

Yes, they are all well behaved, never house accidents and all are dear buddies.

We both love our furbabies and both of us have had both canines and felines as children as well.

Gogo84 Sat 01-Mar-25 14:31:55

Only had two dogs in my life, one when I was a child and one because my husband wanted one, then didn't bother with it. Both dogs had to be put to sleep for various reasons, so no, wouldn't have another, although I dog sit for my son if they want to go away, and I love my daughter's 3 big dogs.

thuberon Sat 01-Mar-25 14:31:32

No I don't like dogs at all. It revolts me to see folk picking up dog mess or walking about carrying dog mess in plastic bags (though of course not doing so would be infinitely worse), and to see dogs on seats on buses and in cafes and restaurants where staff will pet and then serve. I also resent that I have to get off the pavement multiple times on a walk, as the owner is clearly not going to give me room to pass and that I no longer feel comfortable walking off road as so many dogs are running around without leads or recall. When I was out on a walk recently I was stopped by a woman with a dog who I vaguely recognised as a neighbour. She said she had often seen me out on my own walking and wondered if I would like to take her dog out sometimes. I suppose she thought she was offering to do me a favour. Absolutely not thanks very much.

Elusivebutterfly Sat 01-Mar-25 14:27:39

I don't like most dogs and am frightened of them generally. Some dogs are quite cute, but that is a minority.

Rocknroll5me Sat 01-Mar-25 14:24:44

I love dogs. We don’t deserve them

icanhandthemback Sat 01-Mar-25 14:22:14

I love dogs, especially well trained dogs.

Earthmother9 Sat 01-Mar-25 14:17:45

Never liked them, they used to run in packs on the council estate where I grew up so I learned to fear them and they smell.
