Just wondering? I don’t.

Oldbat1 Fri 28-Feb-25 17:29:09

Prefer dogs to people - dogs dont lie. Ive had dogs all my life except for a period of 4wks. Have had 6 rescues/fosters at once now down to just 2.

Better to feel sorry for them, surely?

I do dislike reckless drivers who drive under the influence of drink and, more often now, drugs.

Yes

Love dogs!!! We have a 2 year old Pomeranian and she is my 3rd child. We spoil her to death, and that’s what I feel all pet owners should do.

I even like rats and used to have pet mice as a child. Rats are very intelligent, the only problem is they carry a few nasty diseases. Dogs are very intelligent, too - sometimes more than we realise.

There is this assumption by most dog owners that everyone should dote on their little darling. Just as with children, it all depends on how they behave. So much depends on good owners.
I think most of us are wary of all dogs at the moment because there have been so many attacks.
Dogs can be very loving companions, but they are also a health risk.
Personally, I prefer cats but I can appreciate the good qualities of dogs.

I certainly don't expect anyone to dote on my dog, but he's as much a member of our family as any other. He brings far more to us than any possible health risk - and anyway, are cats not a health risk too (I also love cats, by the way)?

SueEH Sat 01-Mar-25 13:11:49

No. And I don’t like them in cafes and restaurants either (service dogs obviously excepted!)

Nannapat1 Sat 01-Mar-25 13:15:59

I have been very fond of other people's dogs but never have one of my own. They do tie you and there is often a smell which I don't like. I don't like the behaviour of badly trained dogs either. The owners are responsible for a lot of bad or aggressive behaviour. Having said that, any dog can 'turn' I feel, so I tend to be rather wary.

I think dogs are probably the most loyal, loving, intelligent souls. The best creatures in the world.
They are often abused, mistreated - through malevolency, ignorance or indifference. It is always the human's fault.

I feel sorry for anyone who has not known the love of a companion animal such as a dog - or a cat. They have missed out on, what I feel, is the best, most pure love.
Be the person your dog thinks you are - is very good advice.

I think dogs are like children. You love your own, but not everyone else’s.
I had dogs as a child with the family, but they were kennel dogs… kept out of the house. One time we had a cute puppy that was kept in the house that my sister and I loved, but it kept yapping, as they do! We came home from school one day to find it gone… mum had apparently “ given it away as it’s barking annoyed her. In retrospect I’ve often wondered if that was the truth, or did it run away or got out and was run over?
I never found out, tho my Mum did have a selfish steak that giving it away would have been in character.
Since adulthood I have never had cats or dogs. Gerbils for the kids and similar, but I had too much to do with the children. Later I worked away regularly. Now too old to care and walk one. So ambivalent about them. I quite like them, but don’t want one for myself. Hate uncontrolled ones!

Yep! I love dogs. 🥰🐶

I absolutely love dogs, I love all animals really both wild and pets. I was always a cat person and my husband a dog one so when we got married we had one of each and I'm thoroughly converted! I am a responsible owner, I always pick up after my dog, I carry a torch so I can see it all in the dark. I don't let her approach other dogs or people unless they ask her to, I keep her on lead and under control. I'm fed up of irresponsible dog owners who give the rest of us a bad name. I'm often picking up other dogs poo as well.

ViceVersa Sat 01-Mar-25 13:39:57

Oh I love pretty much all dogs, not just my own! Other people's children you can keep though...

jocork Sat 01-Mar-25 13:40:57

I'm not a dog owner and more of a cat person, but I like some dogs. I enjoy spending time with my son's family dog and sometimes take her for walks when I'm stayig with them, but I wouldn't want the responsibility of dog ownership. Cats are easier but can be aloof. The cats I've owned have been affectionate and were lap cats, but I wouldn't want one that wasn't comfortable being cuddled.

Depends on the dog..................

yogitree Sat 01-Mar-25 13:41:39

Yes, I like dogs on the whole though some can be unlikeable due to the way they have been handled, abused or trained by humans. A good dog has a pure and loving heart and has much to offer its family. I have had 6 'good dogs' in my lifetime and am very grateful to them for the experience.

rascalsgran Sat 01-Mar-25 13:47:35

Yes we like dogs. We were both brought up with dogs and cats as our pets, and have had both throughout our married life. We don’t have any pets now, but love looking after our Grand-dog when his family go away. Even so, I think some people treat their dogs too much like children, sitting them on their knee in cafes for instance. And I don’t like to see dogs licking their owners faces.

TONKATOL Sat 01-Mar-25 13:51:54

I love both dogs and cats. However, I do understand that some people don't, so wouldn't force them on anyone. If you come to my home, you have to accept I have both - I can keep the dogs away, the cats less so, although my cats tend to hide when strangers visit. All my pets have been rescues - so many beautiful creatures that have been abandoned.

I dislike the idea that dogs should be allowed anywhere and everywhere - I never understand why you would take a dog into a cafe or a shopping centre - it can't be much fun for them.

I find it a shame when children are not introduced to pets at an early age - not all my children choose to have pets nowadays, but they have a healthy respect for any animal.

Mojack26 Sat 01-Mar-25 13:52:12

Love love dogs.. but each to their own. I hate birds! You can't get away from them!!! 😢

LittleToothill Sat 01-Mar-25 13:58:08

I’m wondering why the question ? Yes I love dogs and have had numerous over the 50 years of my marriage . I currently have 7 dogs aged from 15 to 6 months and can never imagine my life without my dogs . Fortunately I have the space and the land as I know 7 is a lot to have , although the costs involved are worth it for the love and pleasure they give me

I don't have a dog myself and wouldn't want one. However I've no objection to dogs provided they are on leads, calm in public, and have owners who clean up after them. Locally we have a problem with large strong dogs who are taken out by people who can't control them.
People do obviously get irritated if dogs are noisy because they're left alone, day or night.
