I don’t mind dogs but would much rather have a cat.

What I dislike intensely are untrained or badly trained dogs and owners who don’t pick up poo and put it in the bin.

Yes. I love seeing them run around in the park. They always seem so full of energy and enthusiasm.

However, I have never wanted to live with a dog as I am a confirmed cat person.

I am not so keen on some of the owners for various reasons.

I stopped having cats because I lost too many on the road. Then I had house cats but that never felt right. My Whippet is a cat substitute in that she will spend 24 hours a day curled up on my lap if I let her!

Of course, they're not guard dogs are they but, as you say, they're fighting dogs. And if they can't find another animal to fight a human will do...

You can sit next to me on a bus any day, MayBee70. I would never get bored...

There are news reports that a 19 year old woman has been killed at home by a dog police believe to have been an XL bully.
Those people who say it’s never the dog, always the owner might have a bit of a point with XL Bullies. They were bred to fight, to kill. It’s deep in their DNA. My question is what kind of person wants to own this breed, or its spin off breeds.

Something has gone seriously wrong with the dna of those dogs. In the podcast it said that guard dogs were selectively bred to be aggressive towards other people but not their owners.

Even if someone doesn't like dogs can I recommend Dan Snows History Hits recent podcast about dogs which is absolutely fascinating. And, even if you don't like dogs you might see them in a new light because, imo they are the most amazing creatures. Eg Corgis used to drive the cattle to London from Wales and then make their own way back. That Border Collies work diferently to drovers eg Bearded Collies in that animals had to get to market in good condition therefor the dogs used had to drive them but keep them calm and relaxed at the same time. The older I get and the more I learn about dogs the more I hold them in awe and respect. Having said that I can understand, because of some of the ignorant owners out there, why some people really don't like them. Not from the podcast but I read that a dog is the only animal that will go to something if you point to it; no other animal understands pointing [would assume that apes do the same though?]. Oh and ducks used to be hunted using crossbows so the retrieving dogs[Poodles from the French word for puddles] not only swam out and retrieved the ducks but also the arrows. [don't ever sit next to me on a bus; I can bore people to death when I get started on dogs...].

Nothing nicer than a well trained dog. Nothing worse than a spoiled and out of control dog.
We’ve always had at least one dog until 2023 when we moved to flat.
I do not like dogs in cafes and restaurants, in shops and on public transport unless of course it is an assistance dog.
This trend for dogs being accepted anywhere and everywhere is usually followed by entitled owners who show no respect for others.

In my experience they, and other pets, are infinitely preferable to humans.

Yes, and cats, hamsters, and guinea pigs. Not all at the same time. Looking after my daughter's newts just now.

Dogs have been one of the great joys of my life. I love the fun, companionship, the love, the cosy pile on the sofa in the evening and the excuse for a good walk. They are a huge commitment but I enjoy every aspect of looking after them.

I prefer smaller dogs. They have all the same spirit as bigger dogs but in a more convenient package.

All that said, I don't like all dogs.

I love dogs, cats not so much though they are easier in many ways.

I generally like dogs, but I really love cats, and have had one or two all my life!

After our last dog went we decided that we were too old to take on another. We had three Great Danes, one after the other. Lovely gentle dogs, my grandchildren could walk alongside them holding the lead when they were quite small. The last two were both rescues, and were so happy with us. DH always says that the last one was the perfect dog, we wouldn't ever find another one like her.

I don't mind them but dislike dogs that jump up, try to lick me or bark a lot. My son's dog does none of those and is well-trained. I prefer cats.

I love dogs, but haven`t had one for many years now, due to decreasing mobility, so I stick to cats, which I also love.

I generally like dogs. I don't have one though. Cats are best for me.

As well, exercising a dog is excellent for human health. 20 minutes morning and evening daily for ablutions and two decent one and a half hour walks on Sat and Sunday mounts up.
Dogs' most appealing characteristic is how full of Joy they are.... a big plus in a tricky world.

Have 2 at the moment. I wouldn't like to be without one .

I love dogs. Real dogs, not fashion pooches. They are my dogs, not my babies, and they are not 'puppies' beyong the age of one. They are truly part of the family, but they are dogs. And we don't show them or expect them to pay us back.

I get very annoyed with all the people who have badly behaved dogs, and give us all a bad name.

Now TBH, I cannot trust anyone who doesn't like animals.

we love dogs but I do think some have or develop mental health problems similar to us humans & I worry about big ones that aren\t well cared for in the 1st place

The dogs are fine, it’s the entitled owners that irritate me, treating their pooch as a child, insisting on taking them into a hotel or restaurant.

I agree and with Bluebelle I don’t like the way dogs are higher up the pecking order than humans now I don’t like them in shops and eating places but that’s not the dogs fault it s the owners

Generally, I like dogs, preferably fluffy ones large or small, but not all dogs are likeable, are they!

We've owned dogs but it wouldn't be fair to have another one now.
