Anyone has a Lagotto Romagnolo dog?

It depends where you are, but I would imagine most good pet sitters are already booked up for October. DD had to leave her dog on a farm recently because we are abroad and couldn't help. He had a whale of a time.

I'd jump at a stay with pets in Switzerland. I'm experienced with pets and fluent into the bargain. Unfortunately, the time between now and Christmas is manic for me with trips away and cathedral concerts.
The setting sounds idyllic and I've always fancied channelling my inner Heidi - though that's over on the German speaking side I believe.
I hope you find someone. There must be some GNs up for it.

Have you tried house-sitting sites Claremont. DD does this but, unfortunately not available then.

We are looking for a dog and cat sitter for 1 week in October- if anyone is interested. Come a few days early to get to know the beasties, then 1 week free accommodation (own suite and modern bathroom) afterwards with more freedom to discover both sides of our Jura region (French and Swiss) as we are very close to border.

One of the daughters will come up at the week-end to discuss. All we can do in the meantime is our best for him.

It sounds like u are now his family. So sorry to hear about your friend but what you are doing is kindness itself.

The Lagotto Romagnolo is an Italian breed of dog. It is a traditional breed of the formerly extensive marshlands of the Delta del Po, in the eastern part of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, where it was used as a gun dog, specifically as a water retriever.
Their rarity in the U.S., partly due to their woolly coat, contributes to their high cost. They also require specialized training that significantly contributes to their high price. These dogs are not as common as other breeds, which, due to their limited supply, results in higher costs.

No news- been sending short loving voice messages. Seeing her when I picked up Yuki- it won't be long. I have never discussed the end with her- and of course here in Switzerland she has the choice whether to go through to the end, or shorten the outcome. I have no idea. In her case, I would choose to go as she has secondaries everywhere. I don't know. We will do what they ask of us, the least we can do.

This year is the first time we won't go to our timeshare in SE Tuscany, true Etruscan land- as we have asked to go for 2 weeks every other year as it is such a long drive (we make 2 overnights each way, to discover new places every time- Cortona and Lago Viverone last time, and Luccan and another by the sea next year). The place if very dog friendly, so it will be nice to take him to his roots, if he is still with us next year.

So very sad to hear about your friend - her family must be so relieved that you’re caring for her dog.

Hunting dogs make such wonderful companions, are generally a lot of fun, very biddable and love the company of other dogs.
Ancient Italian breeds, like this, and the beautiful Spinone and Bracco, are not too well known in more Northern Europe, although, as stated earlier, King Charles has recently adopted a chocolate-coloured Lagotto!

Her ACs will make the final decision. They just asked me to come and say good bye to her before the ambulance took her to Hospice, and pick him up. They have enough on their plate now- but reassured that he is well looked after.

They are adorable. I am assuming none of the craziness of a spaniel or cockapoo! I hope he stays it sounds like he has settled and would be not very good to uproot him again

This little dog is so affectionate, funny and obedient too. Massive walk in the woods and meadows with Yata yesterday. Reactivated the GPS tracker we got for Yata when first here- but there was no need. Perfect recall. he run around with Yata and Ruby my neighbours Jack Russel- and jumped and sat in a few puddles. Well, they are water dogs! And again, as good as gold during the night.

I think one won Crufts a couple of years ago.

I looked them up too, as I’m not familiar with the breed. Apparently King Charles has one called ‘Snuff’. Enjoy him. 😊

Yuki is quite dark actually, and a bit mottled lying against me completely pooped right now, having had his dinner.

I don't know yet if we will be asked to keep him forever, or if one of my friend's 3 ACs would like to adopt him. From what I can gather, they are not in a position to do so. For now, he is safe, and doing very well.

Bigger and heavier than a cockapoo, I would think.

When I was a child our neighbour had a cream coloured one called Bianca. We used to call her the rice pudding dog. She was lovely and friendly and very well behaved.

He is totally cabbaged out on the settee next to me. I am amazed, after what he has been through last few months- he has settled in just so quickly. He was so loyal to my friend, but these last few monthsmust have been so tough on him too.

We have to go away for 3 days beg. of July, but thank goodness one of our neighbours who has one just the same (and breess Main Coons), has offered to come and sleep here for 2 nights. And no plans to go anywhere until mid September- just lots of visitors here.

I hadn't heard of the breed so just had quick 'google' they look lovely!

I agree they do look like a cockerpoo.
I think they are in the Hunt, Point, Retrieve group of dogs.
A continental HPR. I hope you have fun with your lovely Lagotto.
