Flea Treatments For Indoor Cat .

Advocate,made by Bayer, is only available from your vet. It’s very expensive.
Advantage, also Bayer, is the same stuff minus the tick-killing element. You can buy this on-line but do have to answer some questions first. Much cheaper and fine if you don’t have a tick problem.
I treat my dog monthly through the summer. I don’t treat my indoor cats.

You can get s flea injection for your cats its called Program. It lasts for 6 months. A good vacuum cleaner like Miele dog and cat gets rid of them in the house( we don't have carpets). I wouldn't use a spray in the house.

Seems to be very hard to get now. It was very effective on my cats for some years but many vets no longer offer it because studies showed it to be less effective than the stuff dripped on their skin. A great pity, in my opinion.

I used to search my cat's fur for fleas and cracked them between my thumb nails. Very satisfying for cat and self!

Lots of sensible advice on here -- we've used Stronghold and Advocate. And spraying and hoovering house and cat beds, etc, is sadly a must.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that if it's a big cat, you likely need to do the spot treatment in TWO places, one isn't enough. So, not just back of the neck, but just above base of the tail too.

NB -- anyone wanting to try bathing the average cat, check your life and health insurance first?

Bob martin clear flea treatment for cats tablets (i hid it in meat) Just used it on my indoor cats never had fleas before on them either. Worked instantly - fleas start leaping about but it definitely works. Don’t use house spray in the presence of the cats the tablets package recommend Bob Martin clear home flea spray. I bought online. Kills fleas in the vicinity.

Our vet recommnded Indorex. We also have jndoor cats and have no idea how they got fleas recently. We sprayed the house, the vet gave us treatment for the cats and boil washed everything we could. Thimk we are winnin...

Stronghold from vets only one that killed the fleas on my cats and it was really necessary because my dog was allergic to them. Spent a fortune tried everything no good till German vet suggested gave them all stronghold. They never had fleas again. Just drops on neck.

Only flea treatment from the vet really gets rid of the problem !
We didn't treat our indoor cat until we have her fleas !
The vet said it's possible as we could have picked them up from anywhere such as cafe seats , bus seats basically anywhere public .
Also could be picked up from a recent vets visit .

Fleas can cause serious anaemia in cats and small animals.

I recently used one Credelio tablet for my cat who was suffering too much to leave it all to natural remedies. It worked very well, she had no allergic reaction, has been brighter and reverted to her old more active self and her skin is healthy. I will use another next month. Can't remember the price but the overall bill was £60 and that included an antibiotic injection, a steroid injection, 10 steroid tablets to last 15 days, and the one Credelio tablet, plus of course the examination. I thought this was cheap, as the vet spent 30 minutes in the consultation. I'm in the countryside, I know in London this would have cot around £150.

Indorex is available online without a prescription

We use Advocate spot on for our dogs and I think they do one for cats. Get the first from the vet and if it's OK get a prescription and buy the next online from a pharmacy. Some over the counter flea treatments have seriously harmed pets
For the house get INDOREX spray online. It's expensive but the best. Put all pets outside including fish and don't forget to spray inside your car. Wear gloves when spraying, open windows and go out for a few hours. Kills spiders, ants, beetles fleas etc.

I spray a room, hold my breath and leave it for as long as possible before I go back in, preferably opening a door or window to air it first. Whatever the risks we can’t live with a flea infestation; not good for us and not good for the cat either.

Advantage pipettes have always worked for my cats without any issues.

4 Fleas only kills the live fleas on the cats but doesn't kill the eggs which will hatch either on the cat or in your house.

At Cats Protection we recommend Indorex spray (only available at the vets) for your house, carpets etc and Stronghold (again only from the vets) for the cat to kill the eggs

Don't forget to hot wash any bedding blankets etc your cat sleeps on as the eggs will probably be in there and will keep hatching

Good luck in solving the problem, I had a persian and we used all of the above and finally he went to the groomers for a bath and a good wash to solve the problem. Luckily in his former life before I had him he was a show cat so didn't mind a bath and a blow dry

I'd never buy otc treatments for animals. Always speak to your vet. Some otc treatments, particularly for fleas and worms, have been known to make pets very poorly. They're too precious for that.

Oops, posted too soon. LadyGracie has got it right, Credillo tablets from your vet, though it takes 2 of us to administer them to our cats, one of us to hold the moggie down, and the other to put the squidgy tablet dispenser into his mouth…… But very effective treatment.

Sadly I don't have a cat any longer, but I used to find that the expensive drops from the vet were the only things that worked. The over-the-counter products were really no use at all.
Some of the house sprays smell vile, but if you don't use them you are stuck with the fleas until they die off - I believe they can only breed on the cat so won't live for ever.

Just remembered that I do use Stinky Stuff flea shampoo sometimes. And we all use their products on our skin. You can also add the non flea Stinky Stuff food additive which soothes skin made sore from flea bites.

Bathing just gives you clean fleas.
Nothing bought in a pet shop kills fleas.
Treating your pet with prescription stuff will kill the existing fleas, it won’t stop reinfection.
House flea sprays are effective, they also kill spiders (bonus)

So what is used to prevent fleas then?

The advice is to treat regularly, then the tablets kill fleas before they have a chance to shed eggs into your house.

If the treatment isn't working (& fleas are good at developing resistance to previously effective treatment) & the house gets flea eggs in,it's best to hoover, spray & wash blankets. Flea eggs can stay viable for years,

Flea treatments from pet shops aren't effective. The best type is only available from the vet. Buy Indorex spray (Amazon) to treat the house - carpets, rugs, beds, settees, stairs, skirting boards - everywhere the cat has been - as fleas jump off the cat, lay eggs, which can lay dormant for a long time, and then they hatch out in the house.

Had cats for 45 years

Be careful if you spray the house. Years ago, my cat caught fleas at the vets when he went to the day hospital for a dental. They were very apologetic, treated the cat and gave me some stuff to spray the house with and I was very unwell for several days afterwards. It's impossible to do all that spraying without breathing in at least some of the product and I will never, ever do it again.

My cats seen the vet ( he was very kind and understanding)
He only prescribes Stronghold now after having lots of bad reviews on other brands.
He put it on for her and have got 2 more pipettes for the future. Cost £104. Which is expensive but if it does the job with no side effects I'll be happy.
