My cocker spaniel sleeps on my bed….i love her being there…. My friends think it’s wrong… I don’t… anyone else’s dog sleep on their bed? šŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗ

All of my dogs for the last 60ish years have slept on my bed, if they could get by the cats. No wonder we needed a very big bed šŸ¦®šŸˆā€ā¬›

Yes… my dog.. my decision… whatever my friends think…
Love it when I turn the tv off at 10.. she knows it’s bedtime and trots off down the hall and jumps up onto her blanket on ā€˜our’ bed šŸ˜ŠšŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗ

As long as we sleep alone in our beds, it should not be the concern of anyone else if we choose to let a pet sleep there too.

It is only a problem if someone else is sharing our bedroom, or perhaps if a medical condition makes it inadvisable to be so close to a pet.

A definite no from me. Had cats and dogs at different times. All slept downstairs. A friend however had three dogs at the same time and all slept with her in the bed yuk!

Me either

Well, well, well, so many disgusted grans!😱🐶😱🐶😱🐶😱

Fortunately I could not care less! Nor could Rosie.

Dogs have slept with their humans since the days of camp fires at the mouth of caves. Dogs not only guarded the flock or if no flock, their ā€œpackā€but also kept them warm at night because a dog’s body temperature is higher than a human being’s.
No contest.

Mojack26 Mon 08-Sept-25 14:19:45

Nothing wrong with it! Mine always have, if they want to. Nothing has ever happened to me. In fact I sleep better as a dog's sense is better than mine. Nothing to do with your friends. Keep doing it.

Yes our dog made it v clear from day one that she would allow us to share her bed! (Not her dog bed 🤣) but the big one with a comfy duvet!

PS There are more ā€˜disgusting’ things around in my view, eg people working in shops or cafes who don’t wash their hands after going to the loo, etc., rather more common than one might expect, I’m afraid. Or water companies who spill filth over our land and in our rivers or sea.

Jess20 Mon 08-Sept-25 14:15:35

Yes, small dog on top of the covers 😁

BazingaGranny Mon 08-Sept-25 14:14:42

Our dog. a spaniel mix is small enough to sleep on our bed, as is our cat. Both are welcome.

Not sure I would want an enormous dog on my bed, but it might be we would just buy a bigger bed if we had a bigger dog.

And yes, dogs do have some germs, etc, but generally nothing that we can catch. And isn't there a saying that a peck of dirt does one good?

Unless you bathe your dog after every walk then it is disgusting to allow him on your bed. They walk through dirty parks, on dirty pavements, accumulating all manner of biohazards. Yuk. The 5Live presenter Tony Livesey said that his dogs slept on his bed. But, he defended himself, we changed the bedding every day. Quite frankly I did not believe that he did that 20 minute chore daily!

I have two big beautiful Golden Retrievers, they sleep on the floor at the foot of our bed, but when the weather gets cooler the older one sneaks up and lays full length between hubby and me. I put my hand on his soft head and go into a lovely relaxed sleep. The younger one jumps up as soon add hubby gets up for his morning mummy cuddles, I love it 🄰

A number of years ago I rescued a dog...she was a huge Rottweiler and although I've had dogs all of my life, she really was the most affectionate, gentle girl that I've ever had the pleasure of sharing life with.
She would always go to sleep with her paw on my hand and like you, that touch made me so relaxed.
I will forever miss her.

I've had many dogs over the years. They all slept on our bed. Including the 2 we have now.

Every dog I’ve ever lived with has been welcome to sleep in my bedroom if they chose to, I live alone now but my current tiny dog is the only one to have always slept on the bed instead of beside it. I usually have a cat on the bed too.

One of DD’s cats always snuggles up with one or other of the Gdcs. She waits on the stairs for them to go up to bed. The other day dd sent this pic of her feet and the end of her tail sticking out from the top bunk! She’s a very fluffy tortoiseshell.

FYI I know loads of people whose pets sleep on or in their beds.
I recently learned that the two cats of some friends of ours "sleep in the bed with us" ( when I asked them whether their cats were "in" or "out" at night.)

Beloved late dog slept on rather than in our bed when it suited him. The rest of the time he slept in his basket in our bedroom. When he was ready to retire he would look at each of us in turn with a quizzical " well I'm ready for bed even if you're not "then off he would trot.
Miss him still.
Of course you should let your dog sleep on the bed if you wish. It's absolutely nobody's business but your own.

Taunton

I find it really sad the posters saying it’s ’disgusting’ to have a much loved dog on the bed/furniture. You obviously have never experienced a bond with a dog and how much they mean to people - especially someone on their own.
Our dog doesn’t actually sleep on the bed as she is too big but why on earth do people consider it disgusting?? Very strange…

I don't usually comment that an idea or opinion opinion is sad but here I do feel a little saddened and for the reasons Taunton wrote.

My daughter change from a double bed to a king size to accommodate her rather large Labrador.

A living, breathing, warm and above all loving creature snuggled up into the small of my back? What’s not to like?
My bed, my business 🐶

Not sure how you stop a whippet ( or any sighthound) from getting onto the bed. My spaniels never slept on the bed but sighthounds think that beds and sofas were invented for them.

Iam64 Sun 07-Sept-25 16:58:36

I remember your spaniel joining you farview. I’m so pleased to see how she enriches your life. Spaniels are such loving companions. I’m on the sofa, still in recovery mode. My little blue roan sleeping at my side. šŸ¶šŸ’–
Don’t let anyone tell you it’s wrong -

The reason I asked the question, was because of a couple of my friends used the word wrong…. How can it be wrong to love your pet and let her sleep on the end of the bed…she is with me 24/7. Can’t leave her at home with H re his illness.. he opens doors and gates randomly… so me and her are always together , she’s my sanity saver and I love to have her lying by my feet as I go to sleep
