Can anuone give advice on why our 7 year old cat who we rescued 4 years ago has recently decided to wee between 2 litter trays.which is really making the house smell.
We rescued 2 oriental cats in 2021 who had lived yogether before. They have always cuddled up togeher to sleep and lick each other clean and still do. They also enjoy chasing each other round the house.
They have always been indoor cats and the vet cannot find anything wrong with him.
Can anyone assist?

It could be due to stress so try plugging in something like Feliway near to where the litter trays are. I don't wish to offend but are both trays cleaned regularly? Have you changed the cat litter?

You could try putting bath/shower mats upside down between the litter trays, your cat wont like the feel of them under his/her paws so this could be a good deterent.

You find find Pheromone spray applied to the tray helps.

Has something frightened the cat? Fireworks? Anything changed in the routine or home?

I've read that litter trays should be placed a a distance from each other, especially if being used by more than one cat.

Would it be worth trying putting them apart to see if the cat can wee more accurately with just one to aim at?

I had a good giggle too. My typing and proof reading is appalling so there was also a certain feeling of schadenfreude

Glad you saw the joke Monica I was feeling a bit out on a limb there

Me too. I was puzzled, and it made me laugh.
I appreciate that the thread was serious but thanks.🙏

In my experience if a normally clean house-trained cat starts weeing outside the litter tray, he or she is trying to tell you that something is wrong.

If you know that both cats have happily shared their trays, that you have not changed to a different brand of cat litter, or have started washing the trays in a different brand of washing-up liquied, I am at a loss, as your vet cannot find anything wrong.

Could you possibly collect a urine sample from the other cat`?

My two are so fond of each other that when the male suddenly lost all his outer coat of fur along both flanks, and the vet could not identify the problem, that it dawned on me he had become allergic to their cat food, when his sister started bring live mice in and handing them over to him.

As I was not thrilled by mice being regularly killed and eaten in the hall, I changed their diet and lo and behold! six weeks later his fur was in perfect condition again.

I have just remembered an embarrasing happening years ago, when a visitor in her stockinged feet trod in a pool of urine beside the cat tray. While she was washing her feet and putting on clean stockings, I emptied the tray and found a hair-line crack in the base of it. So, the cat had weed in the tray, but the dampness had seeped out!

Some vets advise having one more litter tray than you have cats. Could you try putting another tray in the spot where he is weeing?

When a previous cat began missing her tray I started to surround it with puppy training pads to protect the floor, which was helpful.

I hope you find a solution.

I'd take it back to the garage if I were you .....

I have a couple of heavy duty rubber mats that I can bleach spray and easily clean under the litter tray. She sometimes misses by toileting over the edge of the tray.

She means well, but just misses very occasionally😊
