.. in celebration of Gransnet's 2nd birthday - what else would we celebrate with? cupcake grin

As you've probably seen from Geraldine's thread in Site Stuff, we'll be celebrating Gransnet's 2nd birthday on 5 May.

We want you to join in and show us the birthday cakes (or cupcakes) you've made in the past - or you could even use this as an excuse to bake another cake grin The cakes can be as they are - or decorated - we're not fussed (cake is cake, right?)

The winner will receive a family pass (two adults and two children) to Drayton Manor Park and the runners up will receive a mystery prize <ooh>

To enter, simply upload the picture of your cake onto this thread, using the image upload tool. See our image-uploading tips at the top of this thread if you need help.

It would be great if you could include the recipe, any tips on how you made it and give specifics on decorating styles, tools or tricks that you used.

The winner will be chosen from all the cake pics uploaded to this thread and to Facebook.

The competition closes on Friday 3 May, at which point we'll collate all the images and open up a voting system so you can pick one is the best (keep an eye on this thread for the poll). The poll will close at midnight on Tuesday 7 May and we'll announce the winner and two runners up on this thread and the 'Won Anything?' thread.

If you're picked to be the winner or a runner up, we'll contact you on Wednesday 8 May for your details so we can send out your mystery prize - so keep an eye on your emails!

The winner and runners up will be asked for the recipe they used to bake the cake, and we'll publish a special birthday cake page.

And if you wanted to add your cake recipe to our recipe section you're more than welcome to.

To see our terms and conditions go to our T&Cs page.

Additional T&Cs: The main winner may visit Drayton Manor Theme Park on a date of their choosing during the 2013 season. The 2013 season runs until Friday 1st November. A family pass is for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children). Winners will be issued with a reference number, which must be presented at the ticket booth prior to entry into the park. No cash refund or alternative is available. The prize cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or promotion, including Family, Advanced and Website tickets.

No - that was back in the dark ages! Used to get in a right sticky pickle! Good luck anyway! smile (love the lady one)

baubles Sat 27-Apr-13 09:27:11

j08 grin I no longer make my own roll out icing, used to when my children were little, can't be a***d now but do use simple water icing when I'm not being fancy. Wee ones love water icing with sprinkles or a cherry on top cupcake

I'm not putting a picture on jingle but I water iced a cream sponge last week and very tasty it was too. smile GF sponge, whipped cream, mashed raspberries and sweet white icing. I might need to make another now I've thought about it!! cupcake

j08 Fri 26-Apr-13 18:47:47

I wonder if anyone still makes their own roll-out icing, using glucose in the mix. Or even, uses old fashioned water or royal icing, and waiting for the top to dry before piping the finishing touches.

Zengran Fri 26-Apr-13 08:07:30

You and me both kittylester grin

kittylester Fri 26-Apr-13 07:20:09

I have decided not to blush myself by putting my efforts on here.

...Couldn't resist sharing this one too - for 2-year-old Princess-obsessed twin girls!! :D (Feel free to disregard if it's only one entry per person!)

baubles Thu 25-Apr-13 21:16:05

This one was for DGD's 3rd birthday last month.

Victoria sponge baked in an ovenproof glass bowl. Slice through twice horizontally then cut out the centre of each layer using a cookie cutter. Sandwich back together with buttercream and you have space for the doll's legs which I wrapped tightly with cling film. Cover the cake with a thin layer of buttercream so that the icing sticks. I used ready to roll icing for the skirt & piped the rosettes for decoration.

My birthday cake for 3-year-old Peppa-obsessed twin girls!

(Have got cutting-the-cake piccies too, if needed, to prove it's not stolen from Google!)

Happy 2nd birthday GNet smile

This was for DGD's 2nd birthday last year.

Madeira cake baked in a 10" tin, sliced through the middle & sandwiched together with buttercream. I used ready to roll icing to cover the cake & make Peppa.
