We're two years old on 5 May. We thought this would be a good opportunity to reflect on the highlights so far. And the lowlights if you want blush Personally, we can't remember back to a time when we weren't on the forums all hours of the day and night wine wine wine

The two years have flown past, how many grey hairs have we given you geraldine grin The National Meet up would be a great way to celebrate. smile

Gally Wed 24-Apr-13 11:28:11

Yeh! C'mon GNHQ, dip your toes in and give us some feed back on the Grand Meet-up........... grin

Where did the useful dragon go?

Nonu Wed 24-Apr-13 12:11:13

Yes Lully , what happened to him ?

One minute here , blink your eyes and he vanishes into cyberspace .

Happy Birthday to Gransnet. I could have sworn it was 3-years-old but maybe that is because of the toddler tantrums that flare up from time to time.grin That aspect aside I am glad to be part of a 'community' where sympathy, empathy, intelligent conversation, support, useful information, specialist knowledge and humour are on the daily menu. We can even get real time weather reports and personal recommendations for eateries and accomodation.

My highlights have been the various meet-ups I have attended which transform cyber friends into real people, like characters in a book coming to life. Meet-ups are magical but I think the magic might be lost with any more than a dozen folk attending as there would be no chance to 'meet' everyone. Perhaps, we should celebrate with several, smaller, similtaneous soirees?

We only had him for St George's Day....grin

Notso Wed 24-Apr-13 12:53:14

Blimey...2 years!

My ongoing personal highlight has to be glass's diet thread. I'm several stones lighter now than I was in May 2011. smile

Lots of fond and funny memories!

Gransnet is the only forum I'm on and it was a bit of a fluke that I not only saw the announcement when it began, but that I decided to join that same day. I never imagined that I would become so involved with an online community, but Gransnet has been an absolute boon.
The highlight for me was when Gransnetters became 'real'; it was the occasion of the Gransnet Christmas Choir and I remember hearing the voices of other Gransnetters and feeling sooooo excited that I was quite beside myself. blush
The meet up was great fun and Gally's generous gesture of providing hospitality will long be remembered. The support, advice and encouragement I've received through some very difficult times has been wonderful.
Many thanks to all at GNHQ for your hard work in keeping Gransnet a safe and enjoyable place to be. flowers
And cheers wine to all existing and future GNers!

Heart warming message Grannyactivist ,

{wine] or two to you also.

gillybob Wed 24-Apr-13 13:12:42

Doesn't time fly when you are having fun? Those two years have past so quickly haven't they?

I love the forums on Gransnet and the subjects ranging from the sublime to the down right ridiculous (but so much fun) grin

I love the meet ups and finally putting faces to names . smile

I love the lovely people, who offer kind and thoughtful words when you are not feeling 100%.

Thank you Gransnet for being there where would we all be without you?

flowers To all.

gracesmum Wed 24-Apr-13 13:15:21

Aha! So that explains the occasional tantrum grin

GN is my only forum, I joined the first week and I love it. Sometimes it makes me cry, sometimes I howl with laughter and sometimes I get very cross, but I LOVE IT!

grin smile grin

Marelli Wed 24-Apr-13 13:55:50

I love Gransnet and would be lost without it. I've met some wonderful people both on the forum and also face to face. I chat on Facebook to other Gransnetters as well.
I think that even if the crowd was large (hopefully) for a National Meet Up, it would still be possible to mingle and meet easily enough.
We really do need to pull together with this though - set a definite date and see what GNHQ can do for us, too? Does anyone agree?

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 24-Apr-13 16:32:11

On the national meetup front, we have a rather brilliant person here called Patrick who runs literary festivals and the Mumsnet Academy and we've asked him very nicely to work on this. We're thinking we should set a date in September and then it would just be a question of organising a venue and going for it. (It would be nice to get sponsorship to cover the costs.)

Unfortunately (but not for him) Patrick is on honeymoon for the next couple of weeks, but the last time we talked before his wedding he was just starting work on it. So hang on in there for a fortnight or so and we should be able to come back with a date. We'd love to do this, too.

Geraldine Have you followed the thread where a lot of people thought that Blackpool was a good geographical centre, and out of season it will have plenty of space going spare? The consensus was also that November in Blackpool would be after the conference season too.

Nelliemoser Wed 24-Apr-13 17:04:34

Come and look at the state of my house! That is Gransnet's fault. It has distracted me from being an Anthea Turner #nosegrowinglongerbytheminute, type housekeeper into being a GN addicted slob.

I joined about last April when I knew first knew DD was pregnant. It really is an amazing place. I echo the views of many others. There is good discussions, lots of fun and really good support when you are needing a whinge, and feeling down or angry.

LullyDully Wed 24-Apr-13 17:34:02

I just drop in 3/4 times a day and enjoy it very much, I like working out who is who.
Not keen to start new thread and someone will tell me we have discussed this before even though I only started in earnest in January wink

PS I find search useful to help me with this. Wanted to discuss eyebrows the other day and found answers from last year.

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 17:39:35

I don't find the search all that good. Sometimes you don't get a reference to something you saw just a few days ago and have quoted accurately.

bookdreamer Wed 24-Apr-13 17:44:53

I love it too. Took me a long time to post but when I did I've found everyone to be very supportive. There is a huge range of forums.

I had no idea it would have an impact on me but it certainly has. I do tend to hide behind the sofa though when things get scary!

Not a very original message but hey ho!

Two years gone so so quickly,I enjoyed the Christmas Panto and The Christmas Choir and when Bikergran and I shared the 4 X 4 Broomstick when we travelled back from a impromtu party and we got lost over the M62 only to land next to a Police Car on the M6. grin
