.. in celebration of Gransnet's 2nd birthday - what else would we celebrate with? cupcake grin

As you've probably seen from Geraldine's thread in Site Stuff, we'll be celebrating Gransnet's 2nd birthday on 5 May.

We want you to join in and show us the birthday cakes (or cupcakes) you've made in the past - or you could even use this as an excuse to bake another cake grin The cakes can be as they are - or decorated - we're not fussed (cake is cake, right?)

The winner will receive a family pass (two adults and two children) to Drayton Manor Park and the runners up will receive a mystery prize <ooh>

To enter, simply upload the picture of your cake onto this thread, using the image upload tool. See our image-uploading tips at the top of this thread if you need help.

It would be great if you could include the recipe, any tips on how you made it and give specifics on decorating styles, tools or tricks that you used.

The winner will be chosen from all the cake pics uploaded to this thread and to Facebook.

The competition closes on Friday 3 May, at which point we'll collate all the images and open up a voting system so you can pick one is the best (keep an eye on this thread for the poll). The poll will close at midnight on Tuesday 7 May and we'll announce the winner and two runners up on this thread and the 'Won Anything?' thread.

If you're picked to be the winner or a runner up, we'll contact you on Wednesday 8 May for your details so we can send out your mystery prize - so keep an eye on your emails!

The winner and runners up will be asked for the recipe they used to bake the cake, and we'll publish a special birthday cake page.

And if you wanted to add your cake recipe to our recipe section you're more than welcome to.

To see our terms and conditions go to our T&Cs page.

Additional T&Cs: The main winner may visit Drayton Manor Theme Park on a date of their choosing during the 2013 season. The 2013 season runs until Friday 1st November. A family pass is for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children). Winners will be issued with a reference number, which must be presented at the ticket booth prior to entry into the park. No cash refund or alternative is available. The prize cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or promotion, including Family, Advanced and Website tickets.

Kids would really love that cake! grin Must have taken some patience to do too. Well done Seren et al.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 08-May-13 10:53:56

You may have already seen the winners on our Won anything thread - but big congratulations to Seren for Alfie's Monster cake which takes first prize - and to our runners up Limaechopapa and baubles. And thank you to everyone who entered - a most sumptuous spread.

To all those who enquired re closing time - a wee technical glitch made it look as though the poll had closed early - it hadn't and you can carry on voting until midnight

baubles Tue 07-May-13 17:10:42

I think that is the case shysal however the person i referred to is registered and earlier today it definitely said poll closed.

Seems to be fine now though smile

Enviousamerican Tue 07-May-13 17:00:45

Good luck to the cake bakers! I hope the one I voted for wins!

annodomini Tue 07-May-13 16:37:48

The poll closes at midnight tonight and I have just voted without difficulty.

shysal Tue 07-May-13 16:10:22

I seem to remember that you had to be a registered GNetter to vote, was this the reason for some votes being refused?

Seren Tue 07-May-13 11:24:33

Also concerned that the advertised time for the Bake off poll to end has been brought forward by at least 13 hours. My daughter tried to vote but couldn't.

baubles Tue 07-May-13 11:16:20

Has the poll been closed early? Only asking as a friend tried to vote & couldn't .

Hello! We're so impressed by all the entries, they look fab and imagine they taste just as good. <hides my own attempt of a cake...>

It was very hard, as they're all so fantastic, but we've shortlisted the top six cakes. You can find the top six on this page and vote for which one you think is the best.

The poll is limited to one vote per person, and it'll close at midnight on Tuesday. We'll announce the winner and the two runners up on this thread and on the Won Anything? thread on Wednesday.

Best of luck!

Cake made for my grandaughter's 2nd birthday. Made 12" sponge and shaped into the cave. All characters made from fondant icing. She loved it.

Please don't make it a vote competition sad

Hope it will convince you to either choose one yourselves or make it a random draw.
TIA X

These were for the jubilee celebrations, also Mr GB's birthday, so the kids thought cakes were in order!

von83 Thu 02-May-13 14:53:22

birthdaycake I made this SpongeBob Squarepants birthday cake for my sons 10th birthday and I was very impressed with myself as it was only my 2nd ever attempt at making a cake from scratch!

Lego Olympic man.
My 9 year old grandson made this himself. He loves Lego and was enjoying watching the Olympics, when I asked him if he wanted to help me make a cake this is what he came up with.
We used a gingerbread man cake mould, he then covered the cake in fondant icing and painted it with food colouring.
It tasted as good as it looked.
