I'm glad I read this thread. I had thought to buy a box for an Easter treat. But three DGC, four eggs and only two spoons? I suppose Cadburys assume that a child will eat two eggs at once and at nearly 200 calories per egg it's no wonder there's an obesity problem.
It was good to see that all agreed the eggs make an occasional treat and none considered giving one child two eggs. Hopefully the majority of mums will think the same way.

I tried the eggs with my 3 grandchildren so it was great that there were 4! Perhaps they should even come in half dozens like proper eggs! However we thought that there should be either a spoon per egg or no spoons to avoid disputes. Everybody thought that it is was a wonderful idea and the children ate theirs in egg cups. The eldest of my grandchildren aged 8 and I thought they were a little sickly and we certainly could eat more than one. We all thought that they were nicer than cream eggs!
When I first opened the envelope, we immediately thought the packaging was very novel and attractive although we couldn't understand why there were only two spoons for four eggs.
We were sent the chocolate mousse variety and we all liked them very much but as they were very sweet, (and although they seem so much smaller than creme eggs used to be), they were big enough for all of us (myself, husband and eldest granddaughter who is six years old). I wanted to test them on our three year old twin granddaughters too but unfortunately it wasn't possible to see them before the deadline to submit feedback. The outer chocolate was the usual high Cadbury standard and the mousse filling was very smooth and tasty.
We ate the eggs following the instructions on the pack. Our granddaughter was fascinated at how the top came off so easily in one bite and enjoyed the novelty of eating the filling with a tiny spoon.
The egg was definitely a special treat for all of us but an extra special treat for her as she isn't normally allowed to eat a lot of chocolate (or other sweets) on a daily basis.
I would recommend them to anyone I knew who had a "sweet tooth" but without knowing how much they cost in the shop, I cannot comment on how expensive or value-for-money they are. Depending on the cost, I would seriously consider buying them as a treat for ourselves or our grandchildren (we have six).
Hi
My eggs were shared between various youngsters who enjoyed using the spoon to indulge in the chocolate mousse, All I could hear was " Yum Yum" "Scrummy"
The children unwrapped the eggs ,then bit off the tops, they then picked up the spoons and delved into the mousse.
Myself I like the concept and the design of the packaging and the Egg, with the thin top.But I do think 4 spoons should be included. I had to find 2 more spoons, but they were nothing like the ones included and so caused a little frustration with the young ones.
I will probably be purchasing more of these for various grand kids and great neices and nephews.
Is the thread closed? I only got mine eggs on Thursday, then had to wait until Saturday to see the DGC. Then the product was gone in a flash! Scumptious, fantastic were the comments from an 8 year old and 2 ten year olds. Did wonder why just 2 spoons? My DGC said definately better than creme eggs.
Unable to find in local shops so don't know how much they cost.
Another bit of last minute feedback!
I gave one of the eggs to my neighbours daughter to try, have just received a note though the letterbox. They also commented on the "n", so it's not only me. (J said it should be either & or +)
Also said that the mousse was far too sweet. J's mum said that although ok as a one-off gimmick, she did not feel that they were as good value as some other Cadbury products.
First impressions of the egg and spoons from my grandaughter ( aged 7) 'way cool'.
The eggs were milk chocolate with choc mousse centre daughter in law said ' lovely mix of choc and mousse but need chilling to make it a grown up treat' 'love the velvety mousse and they are the right size as bigger would be a bit too much'.
Grandaughter rolled her eyes and said' deeeeeelicious! How many can I have? I like the soft scrummy choc inside and my tongue reaches right inside as well! '
Baby sister( 11months) sat with her little mouth open waiting for her taste of the mousse and beamed when she eventually got it !
They thought there should be four spoon with four eggs and daughter in law loved bitingbthevtop of then eating the mouse with a spoon and biting the shell to compliment it. Grandaughter loved the little spoon but also liked sticking her tongue into the mousse then nibbling the chocolate finally putting the last bit into her mouth while grandma reached for the wet wipes to clean her face! They both considered it was fun to eat and fun to bite ofvthectop and find out what was inside.
They both considered it a special treat as it was different and fun to eat and the different textures aded interest. Grandaughter does not have sweets on a regular basis so this made it even more of a treat.
Agreed that we would recommend his product to others as it is different and great fun for children to eat with the little spoons adding to the pleasure . The contrast between shell and filling appealed to both adults and children and many pleasurable sounds ensued as they were sampling the product !
All in all a big hit with the family members who tried it. I would very much like a dark choc with mint and dark choc with chilli as an adult treat! Dribbling in anticipation and please please let me test them if they go into production.
£2.00 in Tesco, phoenix - they've been on sale for ages! Which is why I think this survey is silly.
* What were your and your DC's first impressions of Cadbury Egg n Spoon?*
The egg box style carton was appealing, but personally I would prefer the use of an ampersand instead of the "n" . I thought that the fact that there were 4 eggs and only 2 spoons might be inclined to give the impression that each person was intended to eat 2 eggs each!
Which flavour did your children try? What did they think of the taste/texture/size etc? We had the cream mousse. I did wish that we had put them in the fridge prior to tasting, as DGS (aged 4) took all the foil off his before eating, and his warm little hands soon had an effect on the chocolate casing! The taste of the chocolate was what you would expect from a quality brand, however although I have a sweet tooth, I found the filling a little too sweet for my taste (although not as sickly as Cadbury's Creme Eggs!) I thought the size was just right, and the texture of the mousse was light and fluffy.
* How did your DC eat the egg? Did they find it fun to eat or not? Was there anything they particularly liked or disliked about it?* They both found it more fun than an ordinary chocolate treat, such as a small bar of chocolate. However I think that if we were out and about for the day and I was looking for a chocolate type treat, I might be more inclined to buy them a small bar and give it to them 1 piece at a time, rather than the eggs, purely down to the mess that they managed to get themselves into! With a 4 year old and a 2 year old, this would have to be an indoors/at home treat!
Would you say your child found the Egg n Spoon more of a special treat compared to other chocolate they eat or not? If so why is this? If not, why not? I think they found it more fun than convential chocolate, because of the different way of eating it.
If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Cadbury Egg n Spoon to a friend? If so why? If not why not? I don't often find myself discussing chocolate, but whilst I would be happy to recommend this product, I think that I would add the proviso that it is perhaps one to be eaten at home, rather than when out and about! (This would of course depend on the age of the children.) I would also be interested to know the retail price of the product, as that may have some influence as to any recommendations.
Thank you for allowing my DGC's and I to try this.
We ate our eggs today.
- What were your and your DC's first impressions of Cadbury Egg n Spoon?
We all loved the presentation. We loved the egg box and the brown and silver paper. The cracked top of the egg was very clever. The chlldren loved i.
- Which flavour did your children try? What did they think of the taste/texture/size etc?
The cream mousse. Three of us loved the creamy centre and thought the taste and texture was just right. Our youngest loved the chocolate but not the cream. The children thought the size was just right but we adults would have liked it to be slightly larger with thicker chocolate.
- How did your DC eat the egg? Did they find it fun to eat or not? Was there anything they particularly liked or disliked about it?
They were great fun to eat but we were a little disappointed to find only two spoons. The children love biting off the top and dipping their spoons in.
- Would you say your child found the Egg n Spoon more of a special treat compared to other chocolate they eat or not? If so why is this? If not, why not? It was definately a treat. Far more fun than an ordinary piece of chocolate. We had them as a dessert after tea.
- If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Cadbury Egg n Spoon to a friend? If so why? If not why not?
We would all recommend Cadbury Egg n Spoon. They taste lovely and are great fun to eat.
Thank you Gransnet & thank you Cadbury for selecting us for this trial. The box arrived a few days before my grandson came to stay, so I had to keep steering my husband away from opening it! EVENTUALLY we were all able to dig in! It is such a cute idea to have the eggs in a proper egg box and my grandson loved the little spoons, although my husband went and found a dessert spoon!
It is fun to bite off the top and then use the spoon for the inside. We even popped them in egg cups and ate them at the dining table for the full dining experience!
Our flavour was the milk chocolate and I was surprised at the mousse being so light, smooth and creamy. My grandson thought it was like a fluffy chocolate cloud on the tongue. It is nice that it kind of melts away leaving a hint of chocolate.
Then for the empty shell – fun to watch little ones try to fit the whole thing in their mouth at once! It is like regular Cadbury chocolate but seems to melt a little quicker, so oozes all round the mouth – yum!
We all gave them five stars. My husbands main comment was that it was nice to have something new and unusual, as it is so rare to find something that is genuinely unique these days.
These are definitely a special treat and at the prices I've seen them at deserve to be treated as such. I'd recommend them to anyone but would say to eat them after a meal as a dessert, rather than at sweetie time. It is extra fun to pop them in egg cups too!
After they were all gone, we suddenly wondered what they would be like eaten cold from the fridge. If you send another box, we'd be happy to test that one out for you! ;-)
Really miffed I didn't get any, suppose I will just have to buy some
Just had my 4 DGC aged 11,10, 8 and 7 road-test the eggs. Comments came fast and furious:
Love the box - it's so cute
It's a cool idea and they could sell creme eggs like this
There should be 4 spoons and they should be longer. 2 DGC had to use ordinary spoons)
The wrapping on the eggs should be "Cadbury purple" not brown
The filling is very sweet - prefer creme eggs filling
There is no yellow bit - should be
The filling is too firm when it comes straight out of the fridge
They could show egg and spoon races for advertising purposes
Final vote - all 4 prefer creme eggs
Sorry!
Thank you for sending the eggs. They arrived just as I was about to pay a visit to the grandchildren, so the timing was great. Three very appreciative children, 6,4 and 14 months, loved these eggs. Even the baby tucked in using the spoon!
They were excited about the egg box and found it easy to open. We would each have liked a spoon, but everyone managed.
We had the milky flavour and it was a big hit. I have to say that the eggs disappeared very quickly. They ate them using the spoon, which they thought made it an extra fun way to eat chocolate. Great novelty value.
They thought their friends would love them and they are going to tell all their friends about the amazing eggs. The adults enjoyed them too! A big hit all round and I suspect we'll be looking out for them next time we go shopping!
Thank you!
My eggs arrived (thank you) earlier in the week but have not seen DGC until week-end but told them they had arrived so there had been great anticipation I am told, they also felt very important that they had been asked to try them by Cadburys!!
First impressions were very good - nice egg box and loved the colour and the spoons, testers were myself DH and two grandchildren 10 and 6. We kept the spoons for 16th month old to use in his tea-set when he comes to visit as he was too young to test (that is what 10 and 6 yr old thought anyway)- ulterior motive there somewhere I think!
They loved taking off the silver wrapper (saved by DGC (10 ) for something at school and then bit the top off the eggs, we tried the mousse like filling.
We all liked them better than a Creme egg as the mousse was not so sweet as creme filling, chololate was lovely and smooth.
As others have mentioned we could have done with 4 spoons as there were 4 eggs, so us "oldies" had to use a normal spoon.
Would recommend them to other grand-parents as a special treat but pleasantly surprised that they were not as sweet as expected.
Thank you GransNet and Cadbury.
After school surprise for grandchildren 4,5,7,8 years.
Comments were Wow,Yummy looking,Amazing and Cool.
They unpeeled the foil took off the top bit ate that straight away and then used the 2 spoons and 2 from a toy set to spoon the mousse out.Silence and then lots of appreciative noises.
They then ate the chocolate shells.
General opinion was; 1 million out of 10 ,Lovely tickley moussey feeling on my tongue and next time Im going to lick the outside first and then pretend to be surprised when I find the nice inside!!
My opinion on jealously watching them.
A really good idea.
I would make it a treat which makes it special .
The spoons were good this made the egg last longer. The mousse amount is just right and the children took their time not like other eggs which are munched down as soon as the wrapper is off.
Well Done and Thank you.
- What were your and your DC's first impressions of Cadbury Egg n Spoon?
Lovely packaging but just seemed a bit exessive on a waste point of view.
- Which flavour did your children try? What did they think of the taste/texture/size etc?
We tried the chocolate one it was very sweet with a very light whipped centre and quite enough with one each.
- How did your DC eat the egg? Did they find it fun to eat or not? Was there anything they particularly liked or disliked about it?
We unwrapped to top half and bit off the top then spooned out the centre and munched the chocolate shell, Papa wanted one as well but had to wait untill we had done with the spoons as there are 4 eggs and only 2 spoons. We were all covered in chocolate when we had done and needed to wash our hands and faces, even Papa. The egg cup idea would have been handy.
- Would you say your child found the Egg n Spoon more of a special treat compared to other chocolate they eat or not? If so why is this? If not, why not?
I would only give this a special treat, it is not something you would buy every day and certainly not recommended to eat on the way home from school as there is too much packaging to fiddle with.
- If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Cadbury Egg n Spoon to a friend? If so why? If not why not?
I don`t know how much they will be in the shops but I would think they will be quite expensive so I would recommend as an Easter egg type treat but not for everyday.
Galen
At over 500 cals per egg?
Hi Galen, just to clarify - the eggs are only 195 calories each!
Along with my middle two Grandchildren ages 5 and 7 we waited patiently for their Mum to arrive home so we could taste the Egg N Spoon.
What were your and your DC's first impressions of Cadbury Egg n Spoon?
They were intrigued to see the pretty egg box and thrilled to find it full of chocolate eggs and spoons.
Which flavour did your children try? What did they think of the taste/texture/size etc?
We had the Milk chocolate mousse. The adults found the mousse a little sweet but it suited the Grandchildren. The size was perfect for little ones.
How did your DC eat the egg? Did they find it fun to eat or not? Was there anything they particularly liked or disliked about it?
They eagerly opened the foil to find the egg and took a big bite to take the top off, then were quiet while they investigated what was inside their treat. They loved the spoons but there should be four in the box. We then had lengthy discussions on how they could recycle the spoons and the pretty egg box once they had been eaten .
Would you say your child found the Egg n Spoon more of a special treat compared to other chocolate they eat or not? If so why is this? If not, why not?
I think it was different from anything they had had before so it was a special treat.
If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Cadbury Egg n Spoon to a friend? If so why? If not why not?
Yes I would recommend Egg N Spoon as I think its a good alternative Easter Egg.
Thankyou Cadbury's. What a treat!
I collected my 5year old grandson from school today taking the eggs with me.
I took the precious box out of my bag and his little eyes lit up when he opened the lid. He was excited at the thought of using a spoon to scoop the mousse from the middle. After the first bite there was a lot of loud "yumming" noises which pretty much continued for the whole experience, a sure sign he was in a little bit of chocolate heaven! On the last bite ,through a mouthful of chocolate, he wanted to know when he could "test the next one"! My answer to that was "not before me". OMG! I had to stop myself from repeating the yumming noises. The mousse is so light and smooth. Just 2 spoons was the only slight disappointment. However the egg box was a bonus for the craft box.
One of the best things about this product is that they are nice and light in weight. I send Cadbury's products out to Taiwan for my son and his family on a regular basis, with the price of postage these days it often costs more than the value of theparcel to send ,so a few boxes of these will be ideal to send in my Easter parcel to them. Quite a bit lighter than the creme eggs. I know how excited they will be to receive their chocolate fix in a new form.
That looks delicious but calorific!!
At over 500 cals per egg?
My Goddaughter tried these and referred to them as total lifesavers, after a terrible day at work. Can't get much better than that!
tried these, liked them but wouldn't want to eat them all as they were quite sickly
