Hello,

This is the feedback thread for the 20 testers who have received a new YouView TV box and who are currently trying it out in their homes.

YouView say "YouView is a subscription-free television service which seamlessly combines live and catch-up television. The service offers over 70 free to air channels and radio stations via a TV aerial and also connects to any broadband service to bring catch-up and on demand programmes directly to your TV. The TV service, which launched in July 2012, is backed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva"

The YouView box allows you to record, pause and rewind TV, as well as featuring BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5.

We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a couple of weeks we will add some more questions.

So, in terms of your first impressions. please....

- Give your overall impression when it arrived
- Describe the set up: did you set up your YouView box yourself? If not, who did? How easy did you/your DH/DP etc find it to set up your YouView box?
- Tell us which TV is it on/in which room
- Share what you/your family think the first couple of times you used it - what was the best feature and what, if anything, have you struggled with

If you're not a tester, YouView would love to hear from you - for a chance to win a £100 John Lewis voucher please share on this thread the programme(s) you'd love to pause, record or watch again - this could be a programme that's on now, or something special from the last few years or even something from your childhood - the programme which is really special to you and/or your family. Maybe you were on TV as a child and would like to see it again or you want to relive an Olympic moment or even maybe your a massive Corrie fan and want to never miss an episode! Please share this on the thread and you'll be entered into the prize draw.

Thanks,

GNHQ

Please note: The final questions have now been added to the thread on Tues 2 April at 11:31

I would love to see the original Reggie Perrin series starring Leonard Rossiter. The recent reworking with Martin Clunes wasn't half as good.

How long did it take you to understand how to use YouView?

Surprisingly no time at all. I am not usually very good with technology (everything with a chip in it seems to have it in for me) but found this amazingly simple and straightforward, so probably minutes.

~ Has your child/children used YouView? How long did it take them to understand it and get used to it?

My eldest grandaughter (7) has used it and can probably navigate the various screens etc. quicker than I can.

~ Which programmes have you most enjoyed watching on YouView so far?

Monday night drama catch up. I never get to see anything first time around on the days and nights I have my grandchildren staying over.

~ Which of the following services have you most enjoyed so far? Live TV/ on-demand/7 day catch up

Definitely the on-demand

~ Who in your family has used your YouView box the most?

Me and my husband (although not always for our benefit)

~ What have you found YouView most useful for so far? Catching up on........

Catching up on shows that I always used to miss and finding something entertaining for the grandchildren to watch.

How long did it take you to understand how to use YouView?

About 5 minutes! It is so easy as the YouView box takes you through the set up stage by stage. And then everything is controlled from the remote.

Has your child/children used YouView? How long did it take them to understand it and get used to it?

So far no. But I am sure they would find it easy.

Which programmes have you most enjoyed watching on YouView so far?

Ancient Egypt:Life and Death in the Valley of the Kings. But all programmes are of great quality whether in standard view or HD.

Which of the following services have you most enjoyed so far? Live TV/ on-demand/7 day catch up?

On demand. But also enjoy live tv.

Who in your family has used your YouView box the most?

Me. grin

What have you found YouView most useful for so far? Catching up on
shows you've missed/ entertaining the kids/finding something to watch to pass time/ watching TV live/ listening to the radio/ search functionality, backwards 7 day programme guide, on demand players, record functionality

Watching TV live, and catching up on programmes I've missed. But all functions are great and so easy to use.

~ How long did it take you to understand how to use YouView?
It is so simple. The machine takes you through the set up one step at a time. The remote looks complicated but is actually quite easy to use. It took a few minutes to master the basics then we worked through the other bits over the next couple of days when we wanted to try something.

~ Has your child/children used YouView? How long did it take them to understand it and get used to it?
The children found it so easy. They almost instinctively know what to do.

~ Which programmes have you most enjoyed watching on YouView so far?
The HD programmes. The picture quality is amazing.

~ Which of the following services have you most enjoyed so far? Live TV/ on-demand/7 day catch up
All of them.

~ Who in your family has used your YouView box the most?
Me

All the functions are brilliant but I particularly like the green button option on advertised programmes so that you can set them to record there and then.

Oh I loved The Box of Delights too, and also The Children of Green Knowe which was on round about the same time.

lexiemac89 Sat 30-Mar-13 22:21:44

I would record the How Not To Live Your Life series which used to be on BBC1!

hannahlw85 Sat 30-Mar-13 15:07:13

Is love to see 'Call The Midwife' from the beginning, my recorder failed to record it when I tried recording the whole series, so I missed quite a bit of it, yet it looked a brilliant programme. So getting to see that again would be great.

Love for Lydia [1977]. To my knowledge has never been repeated and the dvd still costs a fortune. Pre videos, we were at a works do on the night of the last episode and half of us went home to watch it and returned later. Of all the of [at the time] unknown cast, it was Jeremy Irons that went on to fame and acclaim. I would have said Pathfinders in Space but I was given the dvd for Christmas smile. As for sporting moments, thank goodness for utube. What a nostagiafest when I sometimes dip into it for several hours!

oneday12 Sat 30-Mar-13 14:44:12

All the great sporting moments, I could just watch over and over again

chrriss88 Sat 30-Mar-13 14:34:20

'Friends' I love every series I laugh at all the jokes over and over. I have it on 'in the back ground' when I'm ironing, a smile a day helps the world go round!

I watch it in the living room one our main TV 'hands off to the family!!!' LOL

tishist Sat 30-Mar-13 12:56:33

I'd love to see The Prisoner, the 60s series

newgolddream71 Sat 30-Mar-13 12:44:02

fazkin Sat 30-Mar-13 11:28:23

Friends. I loved the programme and love watching repeats

chrisfh Sat 30-Mar-13 08:02:15

If I could choose any programme, it would be the BBC News from the day of the Queen's Silver Jubilee walkabout. I was in London that day and was shown on evening news bulletin, just for being in the crowd when there was a good shot of the Duke of Edinburgh. So I would definately be pausing and rewatching that clip and showing it to all my family and friends.

sweir1 Sat 30-Mar-13 07:08:43

I would revist due south

lastkisstoo Sat 30-Mar-13 00:10:23

Every single episode of Gray's Anatomy, I can never get enough smile x

cluckyhen0 Fri 29-Mar-13 23:16:53

For me it has to be Casualty, the one programme I religiously watch, and the one that everyone else religiously interrupts!

zatuns Fri 29-Mar-13 21:43:42

My daughters have just discovered these functions on the TV and absolutely love to watch the Great British Bake Off.
So much so that they pause it when they need to pop to the loo or get a snack. Then whenever I cook anything they become Paul and Mary and tell me if I've got a soggy bottom!
They're only 7 and 9ys and i would love to get them some decent bake ware to help them along.

Alison18 Fri 29-Mar-13 20:40:30

I love to pause and record Mrs Browns Boys! I also have a few drama programmes Im watching at the moment and the pause button comes in handy. Ive been pausing and recording Broadchurch, Prisoners Wives and The Sydnicate
