KatGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 21-Oct-13 10:46:05

This thread is for the 100 gransnetters who have been chosen to trial No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum.

Here’s what Boots had to say, “No7 is the UK’s leading skincare brand. NEW No7 Restore& Renew Day & Night Serum is specifically formulated for more mature skin and actively targets the five key signs of ageing: wrinkles, lack of firmness, uneven pigmentation, fragility and dull skin. In clinical trials, after four weeks of use, both light-reflecting characteristics and levels of natural moisture return to similar levels of younger skin. New Restore & Renew Day & Night Serum is our fourth clinically proven serum meaning that we have a clinically proven serum for every stage of a woman’s life. We have had great results from our clinical trial and user testing, but we’d love to hear what gransnetters think about the product as well.”

We’d like you to use the product each day and night for at least four weeks, but preferably for the full eight weeks. Feel free to post your feedback on this thread as often as you like while using the serums.

When you're ready please answer the following questions:

Q1: What were your overall impressions of No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum?

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
· Lines and wrinkles
· Firmness
· Pigmentation
· Fragility
· Skin’s radiance

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the serums to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a No7 skincare bundle worth over £100.

Please note, Boots may use any comments posted on this thread in marketing, editorial and/or promotional material so please only post if you are happy with this.

Thanks and good luck,

GNHQ

Q1 Overall impression - as has already been said re packaging: excellent!!.

Q2 I had to wait 6 days for the rosacea to quieten down which is still there although my skin does feel good.

Q3 I would buy it again if it were half again as big. Too pricey with current size.

I would recommend to anyone. Am a big fan of Protect etc., I just need someone to come up with something to take away the Rosacea.
I think possibly remove the scent.

I've used the serums for 5 weeks now and I've posted before and after pictures on the pictures thread.

Answers to the questions:
1. Overall impressions - I've tried to use them neither sparingly nor lavishly and have nearly finished the tubes, so using them on a permanent basis could work out expensive.
I would prefer it if the perfume was a bit more subtle!
2. Lines & wrinkles not changed
Firmness and softness improved
Pigmentation possibly slightly less
Fragility- isn't that the opposite of firmness?
Radiance - not really any change
3. I will probably buy again and use with the Restore & Renew moisturisers which I intend to try when my current moisturiser runs out. But I will compare the costs with the brands I'm currently using (Nivea, Simple)
4.If a friend asked me I would say I quite like the serums but hesitate to recommend anything to anyone!

Granoveve Fri 22-Nov-13 15:02:58

Q1: Overall impressions ? Both serums were easy to use. The night serum sank in easily and did not leave marks on the pillow and the day serum certainly made it easier to apply my makeup more evenly.

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
· Lines and wrinkles - not really a noticeable difference. To be fair, I haven't really got wrinkles except by my eyes.
· Firmness - my skin certainly felt smoother in the mornings after using the night serum.
· Skin’s radiance That's what my husband noticed most. He said it looked brighter, especially for the time of year.

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why?
I have already asked for some for Christmas, (it'll probably be from ebay after what I read on here), but on the whole I find it too expensive now. I don't know how long it's supposed to last, but the night serum has almost gone already. Now the formula has been created, it wouldn't hurt to have bigger tubes for the same price or lower price for the same size.

Q4. Would you recommend the serums to a friend? Yes. I like the serums and Boots cosmetics, but mainly because, as I said, the night serum sank in easily and did not leave marks on the pillow and the day serum certainly made it easier to apply my makeup more evenly. Also because many friends are still working full time and might not see the price as an obstacle.
Thanks for letting me be part of the trial.

Both serums very easy to use.

Have used them for 4 weeks now, I put each on one side of my face and used my usual on the other side! Little difference to wrinkles, (I don't have many!) but I do think my skin is brighter and less pigmented. Also used it on my neck and very happy - it seems firmer and less turkey like. And no reactions - my skin is very sensitive, especially my neck which gets red, angry and itchy with many creams.

Would I buy it? It's expensive, but a little goes a long way. Would try and wait for special offers.

I would definitely recommend the serums to friends

jcdoh Mon 25-Nov-13 13:31:11

having read many comments regards these serums, I do agree with them;
the day serum felt good and the smell I found pleasant;
but it has not had a really noticeable effect , slight benefit in the condition of my skin,
but no impact on my lines both around my mouth nor above nose;
firmness a slight improvement ,
but cannot see pigmentation improved,

again the night serum very smooth;

these serums although not as expensive as top market ranges - which I could not afford to buy - therefore do not have any knowledge as to whether or not they work; are still expensive for my pension; therefore I will not be buying them.

recommending them well yes -- but not with a `you must buy these!'

janeainsworth Mon 25-Nov-13 14:07:22

I bought a new supply of these this morning at my local Boots - cost was £19.99 not £24 as previously said, plus I could have had 3 for the price of 2 but I don't feel quite that committed just yet wink
and I got a £5 voucher for skin care and a £3 voucher for make up.
So perhaps a bit more affordable than we first thought, maybe Boots have been reading the threadgrin

2old4hotpants Mon 25-Nov-13 16:50:58

Almost six weeks into my trial now, and still disappointed. I cannot see much difference between this and the Lift & Luminate and Protect & Perfect that I have tried previously. All do give a smoother feel to the skin but not a lot more. I have not noticed any change to the fine lines round my eyes, and pigmentation marks are just as noticeable as before. Am I being cynical in thinking that all these products, which are aimed at different age groups, are in fact virtually the same, and that the age group marketing is designed to merely increase sales?

I am not sure if I will buy again. I may be tempted if I had enough Boots points, or if it was on special offer. The psychological aspect of feeling I am doing the best I can to hold back the ravages of time may outweigh my disappointment. I am grateful to have been offered the chance to try the serums, but please, Boots, do carry on researching for a product that truly does match your claims.

Busybee Tue 26-Nov-13 10:46:32

I have used the serums for 5 weeks, and probably have enough to last for 8 weeks. I apply to face and top of neck but not eye area.
Q1: Overall impressions:
I like the different colour tubes; easy to apply, and absorbed easily; skin is soft and smooth as a base for moisturiser.
But having to pack 5 products (day & night serums & moisturisers, & eye cream) for going on holiday is not ideal. I'm not clear why the serum has to be applied separately to moisturiser.

Q2. Skin changes:
I have dry & sensitive skin so have moisturised regularly for years and used Boots serums since their launch as a 'miracle product'. I haven't noticed any significant difference with R&R.
Lines and wrinkles & age spots seem about the same.

Q3. Likelihood of buying the product:
As it is the same price as the serums for younger age groups, I'll now buy R&R. I always look for the 3 for 2 offers. Maybe I'll have to think again next year when I retire and my income goes down.

Q4. I would recommend the serums to a friend who has a similar skin type to me.

nanahil Wed 27-Nov-13 06:10:52

Q1
I also liked the fact the day and night tubes were easy to identify.
This some how helped me to fit the use of cream easily into my somewhat erratic skin care routine. I liked the feel of the product very much.
Q2,
I can not notice any significant change in general appearance, however my skin does feel better, this may be because I have been using the product and therefore moisturising more regularly .
Q3
I probably would purchase but look out for it on a promotion.
One of the problems of purchasing creams for ageing skins is determining which one to buy, I would love not to feel so confused at the Skin Care Counter!
Q4
I would be careful to recommend any skin care product to any one as skin care is such an individual subject. However I would recommend Boots as the place to go to.

Lizziehop2 Wed 27-Nov-13 15:23:50

1: What were your overall impressions of No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum?
A1) I like it. After 4 weeks still have at least another weeks use in the tubes. The serum provides a good base for my moisturiser and have not used a Primer(after moisturiser and before foundation) during the trial as it did not seem necessary.

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
· Lines and wrinkles
· Firmness
· Pigmentation
· Fragility
· Skin’s radiance
A2) My skin is definately smoother and more radiant but not noticed any difference with the firmness or lines/wrinkles. (Maybe because of continued use of Boots Lift & Luminate serums?)

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
A3) Yes, would continue to use it, rather than the Lift and Luminate which I usually buy.

Q4. Would you recommend to a friend.
A4) Yes

moleswife Wed 27-Nov-13 16:58:33

Having had still more time to use the Boots serum I still wasn't noticing any difference just that my skin felt softer and I liked the smell, then I had a small blemish which I used the serum on and it healed quicker than usual. Next someone actually said to me recently how nice my skin was - this was a shock as I've always thought of all the things I'd change about myself it would be my skin! I'm also surprised there still seems to be enough left for another week or two!! I must add that I'd never have managed without the 2 different colours of tube to differentiate night from day!

Galen Wed 27-Nov-13 17:18:44

Mine has all gone! I'm waiting til I can get to Boots to buy some as it's at least as good and cheaper than my usual ones!grin

RuthKJones Wed 27-Nov-13 18:29:53

Q1: What were your overall impressions of No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum?
I was impressed with the serum, a little went a long way and it made my skin feel really soft and supple.

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
· Lines and wrinkles
· Firmness
· Pigmentation
· Fragility
· Skin’s radiance

Slight improvement in lines at the corner of my eyes, although I'm quite lucky in having good genes! Improvement in firmness of my skin, and overall I seem to have a nice glow. No real improvement in age spots unfortunately.

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be buying the serum - just that bit too much for me on top of other skin care I need. Maybe ask Santa!

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the serums to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'd definitely recommend the serum - already have. A really nice product.

Dee Thu 28-Nov-13 03:06:11

Q1
The tubes were easily distinguishable but didn't stand up properly which was annoying. Both serums glided on to the skin easily and absorbed well.
Q2
I've had a nasty virus the whole time I've been testing this product and have not felt or looked my best. Even so my skin is firmer and my brown spots have lessened. I haven't noticed a reduction of wrinkles but am not particularly wrinkly anyway.
Q3
I can't afford to pay £24.95 on a regular basis for a skin product so, whilst it was a treat to be able to use the serums I won't be continuing.
Q4
I don't really have conversations with friends about skin care but I would recommend these products if it came up

Elegran Thu 28-Nov-13 12:10:37

My tubes stood up OK. I thought the large cap was a good feature as it allowed that.

georgiesnana Thu 28-Nov-13 14:39:19

After using the serum for approx. 4 weeks -I am impressed by the cool feel of the serum and easy application

My skin is certainly softer and more radiant but the fine lines are still there but feel sure that with continued use they will reduce.

The cost of the serum is fine - and I would purchase more to continue with the regime.

I have already recommended the serum to a friend.

Hope this is helpful

tiller30 Thu 28-Nov-13 20:48:43

I have finished the serums and now I will answer your set questions.
Thank you for the chance to take part.

1.I am impressed with the serums, the tube designs are well thought out and the serum is very pleasant to use the slight perfume and cooling feel on contact with the skin is a treat!

2. Changes ; My wrinkles and lines seem less deep around my nose and mouth.
Firmness possibly around my eyes and on my neck.
Pigmentation ,an age mark has faded.
Fragility ? no
Skin radiance,my daughter commented but I did not use in excess on my cheeks as the skin is sensitive there (is that your meaning of fragility?)

3.The price is too high for me to buy on a regular basis.
It will be on voucher days and birthday/xmas time.

4.I would recommend the product.
If someone can afford to buy it for the rest of their lives they will have the most amazing skin.

Thank you again.

mischief Thu 28-Nov-13 22:41:53

I have now reached the end of week 7 so I thought I would answer the questions.

Q1 What were your overall impressions of No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum?
The two tubes one darker than the other is a clever idea. You don't get them muddled up. The serum itself goes on so smoothly and is very silky to the touch.

Q2. After using Restore & Renew Day & Night serum for four weeks, how significantly has your skin changed in the following areas? If so please give details.
· Lines and wrinkles - I see little if any change.
· Firmness - no firmness in fact the skin is softer maybe thats why there is no chang to wrinkles.
· Pigmentation - no change
· Fragility - don't know what you are asking here
· Skin’s radiance - my skin is certainly soft and looks good but it did before I started the test

Q3. The RRP for No7 Restore & Renew Day & Night serum is £24.95, do you think you'd be likely to buy the product again or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I wouldn't buy the product at the current price because it doesn't do what it claims. If it made a difference to wrinkles I might consider it.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the serums to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend it but with reservations.

Thank you for allowing me to take part in the test it has been really interesting. I might get another few days out of the tubes.

Here are my comments regarding Boots no 7 restore and renew.

Q1 :My overall impressions
I like the day and night tubes being different colours, that was a stroke of genius. I also liked the smell.

Q2 :After using for 4 weeks
I thought my skin looked smoother, it certainly felt softer and feels as though it should be brighter I'm not sure it is.

Q3 :Would I buy the product
I would love to buy this product, I think the price is very reasonable, it looks, smells and feels like a more expensive cream.

Q4 :Would I recommend to a friend
Certainly would, think it great, one of the best products I've used recently.

Thank you for the opportunity to take part in the trial, I've enjoyed it

Kathy x

Firstly Gransnet, thank you for the opportunity to sample this product.

I found both the day and night Boots Restore and Renew serums easily applied and absorbed without any thick or sticky residue leaving the skin soft to the touch. I particularly liked the white and pink tubes so that they were easy to differentiate between morning and evening use. I have sensitive skin and there were no bad side effects at all so that was a definitive plus.

Unfortunately I did not notice any line or wrinkle improvement(sad)
and slight, if very little, improvement in fragility or firmness although radiance and pigmentation did show slight improvement. I found there was not enough serum to allow me to rub into my neck (bearing in mind the 4 week supply?!)so concentrated on areas of my face.

They would have to be on offer (considerably reduced!) for me to buy more of this product as the tubes are so small for the price currently on sale although I am inclined to follow on for another month to see if there is further improvement to my lines/wrinkles(smile). £25 a month is an awful lot of money to have to fork out on top of moisturisers, although having said that, if it were to have miraculous results, I would be queuing up to buy it! Unfortunately the improvement was not that significant to justify the cost.

I would recommend a friend to try the product but would also be honest with my findings.

Arcadia Sat 30-Nov-13 21:27:05

1) I liked the texture of the serums. They spread easily and were absorbed quickly. However, when using my usual night-time cream afterwards (argan oil), it seemed to dissolve the Boots product, making little balls over the skin. This didn't happen with my daytime cream, Nivea Q10. Would like some advice on how much to use. I used a pea-sized amount but maybe this isn't enough as after about 5-6 weeks there is still some left. Maybe I should have used more and got a better effect. Why doesn't the packaging say how much to use?
2) There were a few small changes. The vertical wrinkles between my upper lip and nose seem slightly diminished, and a small scaly, sun-damage patch on my nose is smoother. However, a small sun-damage smooth darker patch on my forehead is unchanged. On getting up in the morning, my cheeks are almost free of wrinkles but by the end of the day there are several. This makes me think that wrinkles are generated internally and not much affected by surface products. Nonetheless, during the day, I think there is a small improvement in smoothness.
3) I might buy again, but only special offers or reductions.
4) I would tell a friend with fairly unwrinkled skin that the product may well help, but don't think I would say this to someone with deep wrinkles.

ChrissyW Mon 02-Dec-13 13:13:20

Well it's almost 6 weeks since I started using the serums and I'm pleased to report that I've still got some left in both tubes!

I'm not sure how much difference using the serums has made but my skin is in good condition despite the vagaries of the weather and central heating.

It has been interesting to have the opportunity to review these products and has definitely made me more aware of my daily makeup routine...which in itself is a good thing...so thankyou Gransnet and Boots I remain a loyal follower of both!

jayceecee Mon 02-Dec-13 15:36:15

I'm really surprised that there is still serum left in both tubes, I didn't think they would last this long.
Has it made a difference? My mother (86!) commented last week that my skin was looking really good - that's good enough for me. I love the feel of the serum as it goes on, silky and smooth and I also like the smell. My skin feels slightly fimer and small crease around my eyes seem to have reduced slightly. i would buy this product but probably would wait for a special offer, would definately recomment to a friend. Only complaint is that sometimes after applying the day serun my make up does not sit particularly well on top of it and there seems to be a slight residue on my skin.
Also it might be a good idea to make the containers slightly more opaque, like the Protect and Perfect tube so that you can actually see when it's running out.
All in all have thoroughly enjoyed using it and would like to thank you for the opportunity to try it out.
