Very Sad but I think Mum has decided enough's enough.

I've posted before about Mum's fighting spirit and refusal to give in despite neglect and abuse in her last care home.

The nursing home she has been in for the last 18 months has given her the best of care so we've had time to put the bad times behind us and enjoy watching her regain her sense of humour and live a contented and comfortable life despite her increasing dementia.

Things took a turn for the worse when we visited on Monday. She appeared even more frail and reluctant to eat and drink. I went in again today and she is now refusing all personal care and doesn't want to be touched although she did let me hug and kiss her.

I'm going in again tomorrow as I think she has decided that enough's enough and it's time to go. If that's the case I hope she doesn't linger in this kind of limbo that she's now in. sad

A very sad time for you Merlot. I hope you find some comfort in knowing she has been happy and well cared for in the home that you found for her.

Had to do this with my husband, merlot, so I know how hard it is. But if you are sure it's what she wants, then you are doing what's best for her, as lots of people on here have told me.

After my dad died my mother was in three homes, but the last one was the one that she actually called home. She died the night after she said that, three months after my dad. She always said she wanted to die after him so he would not have to cope on his own, and she did.

Keep strong for her, merlot.

Thinking of you, and hoping that she can be at peace. So good that you found the right home for her where she has had happy times.

Thanks for the lovely comments everyone. They are much appreciated.

Mum loves to sing. She has no short term memory whatsoever but can remember hundreds of songs from her childhood, the war years, marriage to Dad etc., etc.,

On Monday she got a song 'stuck in the loop' she must have sung it fifteen times. It was one of the jokey WW2 Forces mickey takes on a hymn that we used to sing when I was small.

There Is a Happy Land Far Far Away,
Where we all congregate three times a day,
Ham and Eggs we never see,
No more sugar in our tea,
And we are gradually.....fading away.

I think she's trying to tell me.

Penstemmon Thu 14-Aug-14 20:09:29

I hope she feels at peace. You seem to have shared a warm and loving relationship that she is still aware of despite her illness . I hope that will be good comfort to you at this difficult time. flowers
