I think it has something to do with living in a relationship - especially if you live together and not just dating - the benefits of sharing a happy life with someone (probably would be happy if you're having regular sex) are what keep people alert, engaged, forward looking and positive, all good for a healthy older life.

Isn't there some evidence that married men live longer than single men but single women live longer than married ones?
