I said 'I'm going to clean the bathroom.'
And he said, 'Why?'
'Er… because it needs it?'

We agreed many years ago that I would leave a jobs list. It has saved many arguments and misunderstandings. There is one job that is reserved for me, cleaning the toilets. I just want to say 'why do I have to do them, you in it too', but I have learnt not to push too far......

Me too. Bathroom stays cleaner longer too!

When I first lived with my husband, I assumed we would share the household chores.
No, apparently housework is a bourgeois concept!
Luckily my 2 sons are the complete opposite. They share chores, child care & are brilliant cooks. Karma eh?

My friend used to call her retired husband “rigor mortis”

He will walk past the unmade bed, it could be like it all day. Leaves a glass he has used on the draining board, likewise the knife he would use for fruit. The dishwasher is just under said board. I believe in "don't put it down put it away" as it saves me work. Having said that when I broke my elbow just before Christmas and had two spells in hospital for surgery he cooked, cleaned, made beds, did shopping and waited on me. I wouldn't have him any other way bless him.

Yes annep that is a pretty good translation. You did miss the key point though which is “why bother it will be dirty again in a couple of hours”

One of the best !!!! I had been out at work all day. Came in really tired. No dishes washed all day, to be informed, with a Great sigh, !!! I've emptied your bin.

"If you're going to cut down the branches do you want me to hold the ladder?" He IS good at making cups of tea tho...

Sheilasue Read the book Men are from Mars women from Venus ?

BRedhead59 Fri 20-Jul-18 15:53:59

To be fair he does all the car stuff, checking oil and tyres etc
If I'm away helping with grandchildren I sometimes get a call "How do you clean a toilet?"
I also get the "I've hung 'your' washing out"
The dishwasher is his, if I load it, he re-arranges it!
So I suppose it all works out fair (ish) in the end.

sarahellenwhitney Fri 20-Jul-18 15:49:21

Blame their mother.{grin}

Billybob4491 Fri 20-Jul-18 15:24:42

My husband when he makes a cup of tea always asks me if I take sugar - we have been married 55 years.

sodapop Fri 20-Jul-18 15:07:46

These comments made me smile too.
Think its in the male chromosomes houseseller how do they manage to wake up the instant you turn over from the GP qualifying - yawn or police interceptors that has been on several times before.

Sheilasue Fri 20-Jul-18 14:53:47

Mars of course we are from Jupiter

annep Fri 20-Jul-18 14:39:34

My husband has gradually changed from someone who hated doing housework to sharing which is lovely. But I've made compromises which is only fair.
This is something funny he said which is not relared to the subject. We were in Venice approaching the Rialto bridge and he very excitedly turned to me and said "That's where I'm going to propose to you!" lol. quel surprise!

Let's face it most men of our generation were not brought up to clean and just don't notice the dirt. At least, Liz, yours is willing to help if you tell him what needs doing, so like me, you are better off than most of the others posting here.

I usually do the cleaning, washing and ironing - that way it is done to my satisfaction, we both cook and wash up and DH does the household repairs, as he is good with tools and I am definitely not.

Frequently we do the tidying up and cleaning together if we have visitors coming, each of us doing the things we are best at. It works for us.

Mines idea of cleaning the bathroom is to wipe round the sink. I have to clean the rim of the toilet after him every time. I don’t think he’s ever cleaned the shower

Gulligranny
Our husbands must be related. I can come into our kitchen and almost every cupboard and drawer will be wide open.

The thing is, they are* self-closing*! He only has to give them a nudge and they will do all the hard work by themselves!

I know I should be grateful as Mr C does enjoy cooking (but oh! the following mess which he seems oblivious of but that's another story!) but not once has he actually turned the oven off or closed its door - always left ajar with the interior light - and often fan, still on. Grrr.

Still love 'im. At least, I think... I do............

gulligranny Fri 20-Jul-18 13:01:05

My DH, an absolute sweetheart in almost every way, seems to be incapable of closing a door or a drawer. When I mentioned it he said "But they are closed" and wouldn't believe me when I pointed out that it was only because I had done the closing! He does wield a fine vacuum cleaner though, so I don't complain too much.

Sleepygran Fri 20-Jul-18 12:38:27

These comments have given me a laugh this morning, I recognise most of them! It's really cheered me up!

Lilylaundry Fri 20-Jul-18 12:32:56

My current husband (I love saying that to him) once came home, beaming, with a tin of 'new improved' furniture polish. He genuinely thought Id be pleased.

I said he could try it out on the furniture in every room in the house and let me know if it was new and improved and if it made polishing easier. He went off in a huff, muttering that I appreciated nothing.

Candelle Fri 20-Jul-18 12:29:39

Planet Lazy..........?

inishowen Fri 20-Jul-18 12:18:25

My DH is a very clever man. However he claims not to understand the recycling rules, so leaves every at the back door for me to sort!

LouLou21 Fri 20-Jul-18 12:09:59

Mine went into the kitchen last night and came out saying there is water spilt on the floor in the kitchen, why wouldn’t you automatically wipe it up.

Gillcro Fri 20-Jul-18 11:53:36

Mines the same we had this discussion yesterday. And occasionally if I've been out and he has done some housework. Ie Hoover the floor. He always says "I've hoovered the floor for you". Drives me insane.
