What planet do men come from?

I said 'I'm going to clean the bathroom.'
And he said, 'Why?'
'Er… because it needs it?'

Mine says the same thing when I say I’m going to cut the lawn?.

This means "I think you're being fussy. The bathroom is fine. If you want to do unnecessary work then fine, but don't expect me to join you". That's how I interpret it in our house.

Haha.....I'm glad I'm on my own ?

Teetime Fri 20-Jul-18 08:17:22

I would like a new sofa
Why?
Because I would like one.
Duh!

Liz46 Fri 20-Jul-18 08:31:50

'I'll help you if you tell me what to do. I don't see anything that needs doing.'

Ahhhhhh!!

sodapop Fri 20-Jul-18 09:02:07

I've done 'your' vacuuming !!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 20-Jul-18 09:32:28

I've unloaded your dishwasher, do you want me to put your washing line up!!!!!! ????

MiniMoon Fri 20-Jul-18 09:34:59

Yesterday's conversation: It's dusty in here,
That's because I haven't dusted yet
Oh!
Son chips in; You've got the patio door open and it's dry and dusty outside which will contribute to the dust in here. Son left as he was only visiting for a short while.

Neither of them got a duster, it's left to me to do today.

Men often don't see the dust, need to clean bathroom etc. My late DH was very good at cleaning the bathroom but he never wiped the door (panelled) to get rid of dust/fingerprints or cleaned window/mirrored cabinets without being remindedhmm

Mine is cleaning the house as I sit here on the PC! Since he retired he likes to take over all my jobs as, of course, he does them much better than I have ever done! I don't argue on that one.

Gilly1952 Fri 20-Jul-18 10:15:12

I call it “stating the bleeding obvious” - pardon my language! “It’s dark”, “It’s raining”, and how about “I need a wee.....”? They say men never grow up - so true! Glad I’ve just dumped mine! No more stupid, inane comments!

David1968 Fri 20-Jul-18 10:17:03

Not boasting, but here DH cleans both bathrooms and is does notice when this is needed. (Is it necessarily a "man thing"? I know women whose bathrooms don't always bear scrutiny......) I think it comes down to whether you share chores - as we've been doing for over 35 years.

grannyqueenie Fri 20-Jul-18 10:20:11

sodapop, grannygravy that response often heard in this house makes me want to ask “and how did you know exactly which bit of that carpet “I” dirtied?” Funnily enough when I clean I don’t usually feel the need to announce I’ve done it and wait expectantly for a round of applause!
The longer I live the more I truly believe that my old boy shares dna with most men everywhere!

Marmight Fri 20-Jul-18 10:26:45

Occasionally, when feeling particularly put upon, I used to place a notice on the cistern in big black letters "This Toilet Does Not Clean Itself". Late DH would ask why I'd put it there.......doh!

Luckygirl Fri 20-Jul-18 10:32:21

It is the other way round in this house - I am the one saying that the cleaning does not need to be done. I am happy to live with a bit of friendly dust. Life is far too short for messing about with cleaning.

If something gets particularly dirty I am moved into action; but otherwise I am happy to live with it.

marionk Fri 20-Jul-18 10:33:53

Only capable of dusting the TV screen when things get desperate, doing MY ironing, incapable of loading the dishwasher sensibly, hanging washing out with trouser/tights legs akimbo, not being able to tell a plant from a weed.....wish I had been sensible enough to be so incompetent !!

Kim19 Fri 20-Jul-18 10:38:02

OP. I don't know but keep 'em coming, please!

focused1 Fri 20-Jul-18 10:40:17

I thought a dishwasher was the solution . Pots just pile round it - not in it

Persistentdonor Fri 20-Jul-18 10:45:09

Oh yes, been there, had that conversation. sad
It's not that I like cleaning, but I do feel teribly guilty if matters are so dire that I have to clean.

Camelotclub Fri 20-Jul-18 10:49:50

Why do you need a new winter coat? You've already got one.

Jane43 Fri 20-Jul-18 10:53:02

Liz46 I think we share the same DH.

vickymeldrew Fri 20-Jul-18 10:59:36

My husband always helps with the housework. When in his armchair, he lifts his legs up so I can hoover around him ! smile

Margs Fri 20-Jul-18 11:07:59

Disgustingly, I once lived with a guy who thought giving a plate "a good lick clean" substituted for actually using detergent and hot water to get it properly washed.

He really would get offended to the point of throwing a Donald Trump-style tantrum when I tipped the crockery, knives, forks, cups etc, into the sink with gallons and gallons of hot water and Fairy Liquid.

I was - in his book - "just making work!" and "I've not got f*cking foot & mouth, y'know!"

I wonder where he is these days......

Houseseller Fri 20-Jul-18 11:24:02

I'm with Grannygravy, most things involving domestic work are referred to as mine. The shed, the office and the garage are referred to as his. If I venture in I get what are you doing? I also get the plates piled up around the dishwasher for me to load. I also have to watch country file, police interceptors, 24 hours in A&E, who do you think you are all which are not my cup of tea. Other half promptly falls asleep and leaves me missing programmes I want watch. If I turn the channel over he instantly wakes up so have to put it back again. Good job I love him smile
