...... or swinging from the chandeliers, but I am a little bit excited. You see The Wonderful Man has been off to Europe on another adventure involving a bicycle, a tent and a rather long absence, but he's due home in a few days (lands on Thursday, home on Friday to be exact) and I confess to being a tad thrilled at the prospect.

Who else has got something exciting going on or something to look forward to?

Nearly two weeks of DGD sleepovers and lots of fun!

As an ex army wife and soldiers mum I can remember the excitement of home comings. If all goes well I’m going to be a great Nanna in March then I probably will dance on the ceiling. Excited isn’t it lovely to have somthing to look forward too.

Minimoon If you have time on your cruise and they are still available then book a seaplane trip that takes you around the fiords
Spectacular is an understatement.

My exciting news is that I have just had an offer on a property accepted . Having been trying to move for nearly a year, hopefully it will go ahead now. I'm nervous as well as the first time I've done this on my own.

My husband passed in March this year so I didn't think there was anything that could motivate me again very quickly.

The week after my husband celebration of life service our eldest and DiL announced baby no 2 was on the way. Not planned but wanted obviously. I feigned interest however a few days like I found some excitement on the thought it maybe a little girl as our family is full of boys.

Don't know for defo until December and the scans however my DiL seems to think it's a girl as she is carryng very differently to when she was having their son. Of course he or she will be much loved however that's what excited me.

I am also looking forward to returning to our spiritual home in September we have been going too, for 12 years. It will be different and emotional however that is what my husband wanted me to carry on doing if he went before me

I am away tomorrow to Scotland, with a friend (and several thousand more) to watch the football team I have followed since I was a child play in Europe for the first time in over 50 years. Not to everyones taste I know but I'm looking forward to it.

I'm looking forward to taking 4 of my grandchildren on a caravan holiday in just over 2 weeks time. We have already planned places we're going to visit and things we're going to do. I'm seeing them this weekend and the middle 2, aged 11 & 9 have asked if we can plan the menus. I feel so lucky to be able to spend time with them, my DH would have loved it, sadly he passed away, 11 years ago having only met the oldest 2, the others, 5 of them have all been born since.

Off on a caravan holiday with DH and the grandchildren on Friday. Could be wonderful or could be dire!

Oh yes my DD2 and her family are coming home to visit they have been in Australia for 7 years and it’s there first time back home. They arrive in August we are all excited and have loads of plans to take grandchildren to visit places they have only ever heard of let’s hope weather holds up.

I'm so pleased to read these lovely responses. In part what prompted the thread was a sense that some people I know don't feel excitement about anything any more and it saddens me to imagine how disappointing that must be. After thirty plus years of marriage and no shortage of ups and downs The Wonderful Man remains not only my best friend, but still gets that little 'spark' going, hence my excitement. blush
kitty congratulations. Yes my next grandchild is due in November - three days after their parents sixth wedding anniversary. And to see the excitement that little baby is generating in our whole extended family is absolutely lovely.

Our son has grown, and we don't have any GC yet, and we live a long way from both of our families. So for past several years our Christmases and NYs have been pretty quiet. But this year we are spending N.Y. in the Swiss mountains. Excited.

I have always enjoyed my 'alone time'. Having being alone for 11 years since my husband died, I now enjoy enormously the time spent in the company of a new love.

Lupatria Wed 25-Jul-18 10:45:59

not really a thing to get too excited by but on 3 august i'm off to hospital for my second knee replacement op.
i haven't been able to drive for almost two years now and have had to rely on my daughter to take me places -but only when it's suited her unfortunately.
BUT hopefully, after my 6-week check up, i'll get cleared to drive again ...... i'll get my independence back!!
you won't see me for dust as i intend to be out as much as possible.

I'm looking forward to going home for a week to stay with my mum ?. I'm taking my eldest gd to give my dd a break (& a week with her new baby).

Jayelld Wed 25-Jul-18 10:25:48

My excitement - After 5 months of supporting my daughters fight to get a school for her son, my grandson, we were told last week that he has a place, starting September in a school that specifically teaches Autistic children.
The relief on all of us is huge!

PECS Wed 25-Jul-18 10:22:48

Oh you have made me think Grannya ..at this point in time it is all business as usual..which is generally very fine. DH & I go out a lot & have good friends we socialise with but after 2 big holidays last year we have nothing planned for us for the future.
Our week in Cornwall with DD2 & DGC will be fun but.....

glammanana Wed 25-Jul-18 10:22:08

GA After a busy year with the arrival of two new babies this year and the Christening of DGD in two weeks along with the stress of eldest DGD and exams we are looking forward to 10 days in Majorca in September on our own it can't come quick enough for me.

clancyblue21 Wed 25-Jul-18 10:09:01

Looking forward to my DS moving back to my town next month. It will save me a 3 hour round trip & it will be lovely to see him more often and get to know new Dil.

Googoogoo1 Wed 25-Jul-18 10:05:11

I'm excited that you are all, or most of you are excited and have things to look forward to. Enjoy your journeys, family times and home comings. G

I’m off on a Venetian River Cruise in 3 weeks, have booked to go to Lake Como to see the New Year in, plus .... have just booked for a month long South Sea Island Cruise next April, to Australia, New Zealand, Bora Bora, Tahiti and Hawaii. Am so excited .... my redundancy money is certainly being put to good use !!

sue01 Wed 25-Jul-18 09:58:46

In September, we are going to drive the North Coast 500 - 500 miles along the coastal route in the Highlands of Scotland. Heady mixture of lochs, castles, stone circles, stunning scenery and distilleries ! Can't wait !

Teetime Wed 25-Jul-18 09:00:46

granyactivist how lovely for you I do remember that feeling but I dont expect to feel it again sadly. DH is lovely but after 40 years its all comfy and lovely rather than exciting. We had a sadness this week in our family so everything is rather coloured by that.
