There's the rub. Don't you know that the first rule of being a MiL is - 'don't offer unsolicited advice'. If they want advice they will ask for it. I have sometimes needed to keep my lip firmly buttoned though fortunately my two DiLs are sensible and mature women and things usually turn out well without my intervention.
