Read the latest in sad state of affairs between Meghan and her father today with sadness.
Her letter seemed so reasonable and made good points, her father has behaved in such an abominable way towards his daughter. Rather than pulling his head in after the stupid staged shots he was paid for, apologised and kept quiet till it all blew over he's dug his heels in and embarrassed her time and time again.
I'm not surprised her friends came out in support, even if she did direct it. Has the press no memory of how poor Diana and Fergie were berated and bullied? The idiot rags like the Daily Mail and the Sun are really going for it to make their money. I feel so sorry for her and hope it doesn't affect her pregnancy with all the stress.
I don't understand why the public seem to want her to reconcile with him. He obviously can't be trusted and she's wise to stay well clear, that side of the family is unhinged. Half brother with a DUI and domestic abuse, the other sister seems disturbed, her own daughter cut her off for goodness sakes and by the looks of it for good reason.
Harry was always my favourite, he's a bit older than my two children, but I always felt for him after Diana died. He was such a little mite behind the coffin.
Because I don't follow royal gossip I am confused. ( easily done) At the time of the wedding I thought dad had been invited but could not attend due to ill health. Is that all nonsense? I only saw headlines
PECS He was invited and was supposed to walk her up the aisle, but he began giving interviews to the US media before the wedding, and set up a photo shoot for the paparazzi being measured in a Mexican backstreet tailor's for a suit, although a proper morning suit had been made for him in London in readiness. Then he backed out at the last minute, leaving everyone in the lurch, supposedly because he'd had heart problems and was in hospital, but one of the UK daily papers took photos of him collecting takeaway food whilst he was allegedly in hospital, thus putting the cat amongst the pigeons. Months later he produced what was supposed to be the hospital's medical bill to "prove" his story, but many people pointed out the mistakes in it and that it had been faked.
Sparklefizz, I think Megan’s friends would have told the world if they had flown to Mexico.
Good grief, a morning suit had been made for him in London ?
The man was so out of his depth, he was wrong to speak to the media but what would he know about ‘the British way’,
He did things the ‘Hollywood way’.
I still think it odd only one member of her family was at the wedding, no uncles, aunts, cousins, godparents, family friends, only celeb friends.
Annie There were approximately 800 wedding guests and not every single one was identified in the media. Maybe there were relatives who didn't want the publicity ..... or maybe she just doesn't have much in the way of family! You seem to think that if you haven't heard about it, it hasn't happened, but not everything is in the Press.
I am with Dilly and am still Team Meghan over her father's behaviour. He's a loose cannon.
All I can say is that some people on here cannot imagine what it like to have a father with ‘issues’. Lucky people.
I agree Anja.
Sorry but I can’t agree that some family may have been there, the press wouldn’t miss them
I am not team anyone, her father may be a loose cannon, he may be a very troubled man, to go from Hollywood to live isolated in Mexico . I think they should have visited him.
Who asks a father to give them away but doesn’t bother to visit him and explain how it works in this country , and how could a suit have been made for him in London? He wasn’t in this country to be measured for a suit.
If family had been invited I am sure the sister would hit out about that, - so and so were invited but not me.
She may have cause to be ashamed of him, yet writes to him addressing him as ‘darling daddy’.
Nor are they capable to looking at it from that point of view sparklefizz
Some are capable of looking at it from all sides . But if one is team Megan then understandable look at it from only one side.
If he is a man with issues surely a daughter would know so was he wanted at the wedding? Perhaps he would have embarrassed her, she knew this yet he was asked to give her away. I think both are not being truthful.
Annie Some are capable of looking at it from all sides . But if one is team Megan then understandable look at it from only one side.
Not at all one-sided, Annie, because I have lengthy experience which means that actually I can look at it from both sides, whereas people who have not experienced being on the receiving end of a man "with issues" can only speculate and hazard a guess.
As I said before, I agree with Anja and Dilly, but you are perfectly entitled Annie to speculate based on what is in the Press.
I'm finished with this thread.
I am not speculating on what is written in the press but on facts .
Annie Where do these ‘facts’come from ?
how nice is it thatLizzie is giving this struggling young couple the pick of her art collection for their new home. They can choose from Da Vinci's ,Van Goghs and Picasso;s amongst others.
Wonder if all the young families struggling with zero hours contracts or having universal credits cut are jumping with joy about this?Personally it makes my blood boil .Time they were all gone
paddyann and then people wonder why some of us are republican and not royalist! Inherited privilege will always be with us but the gap between the most and the least needs to narrow!
Just as a matter of interest does anyone on GN know which if any country has the best set up for equality of quality of life for all its inhabitants?
I love the dysfunctions of the Royal family!
Its one of the brilliant things about them - that they are so imperfect making it okay for the rest of to not have to 'pretend' about our own.
I feel fine just speaking to my mum - aged 93 and sooooo many people berate me - very occasionally on the phone because of Meghan and her dad. Its okay to not like your parents. Its okay to not see anyone with whom you feel like sh ite and who doesn't treat you well.
Thank you the Markles and thank you for letting us all know how it is!
P.S I know its pointless to mention anything to my mum - absolutely pointless.
So all grandmothers should give their grandchildren the same gifts. I can assume paddyanne and PECS, don’t give their grandchildren gifts because there are people on universal credit. I was wrong to give my grandson the deposit on his first rental property after leaving university and starting his first employment because there are people on universal credit.
The gifts we give our children and grandchildren are relative to our incomes.
I would rather see my family enjoying the gifts that we have been able to give them, than them having to wait for the reading of my will.
So paddyann does that mean that you haven't helped your children/grandchildren when they were starting out and are not leaving anything to your children/grandchildren in your will but are giving it to local charities?
Oh Gravy, I know its so selfish of me , but I wish my parent thought like that.
Probably if a painting is being given to the pair it will be a loan from the queens collection. Did this info about the painting come from the press or friends ?
I see the younger generation’s habit of starting almost every sentence with ‘so’ is catching on!
