The company of good friends

I’ve just finished tidying up after having four friends come for supper. I always cook from scratch (a two curry night) and even for a kitchen supper properly lay the table and have nice tableware. It’s hard work but I do it willingly as part of the barter of life, giving a little to feel the pleasure of it being returned. As I’ve got older I’ve come to understand trusting friendship is so very important. I am a lucky lady.

Thank you, but as I’m only 61 I’ve heard of this rather than actually heard it, so it wouldn’t have come to mind. Still makes no sense, but as you will.

3 years ago January I moved to a different part of town, in 11
months I became cut off from my three sisters, they live in the same town, two friends moved to be closer to family, one developed a serious illness no sign of recovery, my three grandchildren moved away following the death of their mother and my best friend, my darling elder daughter .

I've made some lovely friends since we moved down to Exeter 8 years ago. However, there is no friend like an old friend and my best friend, who still lives in Surrey, as well as my other lovely London/Surrey friends are still in contact but sadly distance makes it difficult to actually meet up for a cuddle as often as I'd like. But hey, live each day.
